I think it’s time I be honest with you all, myself especially: I will no longer be creating content for On My Block/Oscar. It’s with a heavy heart that I don’t find my passion for it, or writing. I do always have my mind bustling with ideas. But it’s the transferring them out loud that is the hard part, in addition to most of my time spent working.
To the 2.3K who has supported my works: 65 pieces of content… my heart never truly felt at home more than it did when bringing those ideas to life. I believe I possess a gift in crafting realities and I hope I can reignite that gift to share in a more expansive way, one sweet day. I want to hug everyone of you. My soul is continuously wandering this realm so to have felt the sense of “home” because of YOU, I wish I could give back. I could never thank you enough.
To Oscar/Spooky, we miss you, foo. And yes, I’m still head over heels for you!
With that being said, my works will remain accessible. My Masterlist will be pinned and to those who never got a request fulfilled, I am so so so sorry. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for false hope, I didn’t know this is how I would feel later down the road.

You know, I have a bunch of requests and little over half of them drafted, on tumblr AND google docs (where I write them) but my time these days are 95% work and 5% me. So right now, I can’t give a true answer of WHEN I can get to them. I don’t want to say that I’m done writing for Oscar but it’s just up in the air as of right now. I’m sorry!

You knew you would get in trouble for this.
Oscar won’t like it no matter how big and doe-eyed your eyes get. He’ll see right through the act and immediately shut down the idea. It doesn’t matter how many times you get your way, this certainly won’t stick.
But ay que linda! He’ll understand once he lays eyes on her. She is the most adorable thing and how dare whoever left her in a box on the side of the street. The scared little chihuahua, shivering and whimpering for love and safety.
As soon as you saw what was in that box there was no hesitation to bring her home.
You open the front door, sticking only your head in first. When you see the coast is clear, for now, you step in and quietly trek across the living room and into the kitchen. Once you set the cardboard box down on the table, you have a cuteness attack.
She is white with brown spots over her body and face. And definitely a little afraid but you couldn’t leave her out there to fend for herself. It’s a scary world and no one should be left behind that way.
“You’re okay, you will be just fine.” You drop your hand into the box to let her sniff it and come to you. When she eventually gets used to your touch, you lift her gently against your chest.
Her shivering breaks your heart into a million more pieces. But you coo her and rub a gentle hand along her back.
“Who are you talking to?” Oscar’s voice fills the room and your eyes widen, hands press the dog to your chest tighter, and your posture stiffens. You peer over your shoulder and turn your shoulder to block his view more.
He’s peeking his head into the refrigerator when you peek back once more, trying to say something, anything but nothing can come out. You stammer as you try to find a suitable escape route, “Uh, myself! Just self-motivation.”
It makes Oscar’s lip quirk, he loves when you can face challenges with a positive outlook. He steps over to you and is about to place a kiss on your shoulder when he sees two beady eyes whip towards his way and those eyes weren’t yours.
“Y/N, what the fuck is that?” He questions, voice stern. Caught.
You turn to face him, still carefully cradling her in your arms, “It’s a chihuahua! Don’t be mean, she’s cute. And someone left her on the side of the road!”
He looks to the dog and then you, and once more. You hold your breath as you await his reaction. This would be the first time that you’ve pulled something like this so you think that maybe, just maybe, the impact of his wrath won’t be so bad.
When Oscar’s eyebrows knit together, nearly meeting in the middle, you know you’ve met defeat. Your shoulders slump and you roll your eyes when he begins his rant, “So take it to the dog pound.”
“She’s a girl! And no, those places are no place for animals to get love. She can stay… here.” You take a seat and let her settle into your lap. Oscar stops mid bite of a cold pizza slice, meeting your eyes. You try to seem unfazed by his dark look but it’s so hard not to.
You set her back in the box after moving it to the floor then stepping in front of Oscar, “Babe, please. I’ll take care of her. Just.. com’n. She deserves love and to have people in her corner, hm?”
He sighs and looks everywhere but your eyes, you keep trying to get him to settle his eyes on your face which is a sign that he is slowly sinking into the idea. But you know that he really doesn’t like it at all.
Oscar finally looks at you and watches your lips move into a big smile. He looks over your shoulder to the box, swears under his breath, “So is that a yes or…?” When he doesn't answer, you are nearly jumping up and down.
By now, you have mastered the art of knowing what Oscar means when he doesn’t verbally respond. His body language may seem a bit rigid but his eyes speak the tone of your dog, your problem and remember that.
And so it began.
The tiny dog clearly afraid and still trying to figure out if she is in danger or not. This place is foreign and so are these people but it is warmer and quiet, no other dogs or cats here.
It doesn’t stop her from crying all through the night. Nights. For days and Oscar complains about it, endlessly. “I’ll kick back to the curb if you don’t get it to shut up.”
You roll your eyes and ignore the brooding santo as you search the web for nearby pet clinics. To ensure that this precious little ball is doing okay. After doing so, it turns out that she is only 3 years old. And though up to date with shots, she is anxiety-ridden and will need lots of love.
“And you’re telling me because?” Oscar says to you when you settle in the passenger seat of his Impala after said appointment. [Luna], you’ve come to call her, has a cute pink collar, a diamond studded dog tag and the cutest little sweater on.
You’ve gotten her lots of accessories! Oscar hates them all because what is the point of going all out for something so tiny. A perra! It makes no sense to him.
The dog looks at him and growls a bit and he mutters something about enjoying a Costco hot dog later, “Because she is our baby now! So be nice.”
Oscar actually laughs out loud, landing a slap on the steering wheel after you say so. That? Yours and his baby? Did they administer laughing gas to you while you were in the clinic? There is no way he is going to ever think of that dog the way you do.
You roll your eyes and lift the dog to look eye level with you, “He will see. Us, ladies, always get our way. There was once a time he felt the same way about me.’
And as you said to Luna, that fact is indeed what came to be.
It didn’t happen overnight or the weekend, hell it took nearly the whole first month before he considered being affectionate with her. The first few weeks consisted of him being petty and acting like a child with her and not in the cute way a child usually is.
There’s a night you wake thinking she has actually slept through the night since there were no whimpers from her. Only to realize that Oscar has moved her kennel to the living room.
He confessed he’s done it many times and moved it back before you would wake the next morning. That earned him a slap across the backs of his head.
“What?” He says to Luna one morning as he’s eating breakfast and she’s sitting a few feet away, staring up at him with those bulging, beady eyes. His top lips crinkles up and he shivers the more she stares. She lurches forward and barks. “Cállate, before I kick you.”
“He ain’t gonna do it, Luna.” You say as you step into the kitchen, eyeing him while you lean down to scoop her up. Her once stiff body finally relaxes in your presence.
The two of them are practically enemies. But as the presence of her became familiar, Oscar stopped putting so much energy into hating her. It isn’t all rainbows and butterflies but it isn’t doom and gloom either, a peaceful middle.
Somewhere in between it all, a shift occurs.
You wake to use the bathroom and trek past her kennel. When you return, you see that she isn’t actually there. You make way to the living room and still no sign of her. A panic sets in as you sprint back to the bedroom, ready to wake Oscar but you stop abruptly with the release of a breath.
Luna curled against his back side. The sight makes your heart bleed. But no matter how much you go on that he is opening up to her, Oscar denies it all. Even though her kennel was definitely locked before you both went to bed.
You find that he doesn’t say anything when she watches him eat anymore. She doesn’t growl much at him either. And eventually he even drops a piece or two for her.
There is a day when you’re in the house and he is outside working on his car, you wonder where Luna could be and when you call out to ask if he knows, there she is. Sitting on the driver's seat. It makes you laugh, she is content and so is he.
Before you know it, a few months in and they are inseparable.
It’s a late night when you feel the bed is two bodies less than usual. You drag your sleepy body into the kitchen but find it empty. The tv sounds though and you find Oscar laying on the couch, with Luna sleeping on his chest.
He turns to you, “She couldn't sleep and we never finished our movie but miss fell asleep here.” A smile creeps on your face because not even he realizes how deep he is in it with her.
“What?” Oscar asks you as you move closer, sitting on the arm rest.
You shrug, “Nothing, I just never thought I’d see the day you’d be this comfortable with her. What changed, hm?”
Oscar sighs and softly pats along Luna’s back side. She stirs but remains asleep, “There was once someone who looked at me and thought I deserved love and people in my corner too, when I was something kicked to the curb. And it turns out there is something good in me. So…”
A painful smile stretches across your lips. Spooky and his princesa, the two are the same after all.

When you graduated from high school sometime ago, you imagined the endless possibilities of what could be.
Though rolling up a joint with Marisol Martinez, everyone’s abuelita on the block, at nearly 2 in the morning didn’t seem all that convincing of a thriving post high school life but it could be worse.
“Wait, did you hear that?” She whispers as the both of you become still in the pitch black, at the kitchen table. The sound happens again, coming from the back door.
In walks a mutilated Oscar Diaz. So yes, it got worse.
The saying goes that grandmas can fix nearly everything. So fitting that Oscar felt comfortable showing up here after being jumped by 19th street. That’s all he tells when abuela asks what happened.
“I need to do something, mija? Why don't you help this one out for me in the meantime.” She says. Both you and Oscar watch as she walks out but returns later, snatching the unlit joint and sending a wink your way.
You snicker and take the seat in front of him, letting the glow of the light above the sink bask on the side of his face. A shiner and open gash from the bottom of his ear to his neck. “Can I?”
Oscar’s face remains stoic but he gives you a curt nod, opening a bottle of tequila that abuela had set down for means of disinfectant. After he takes a generous swig, you take it and douse some gauze.
It’s quiet as you clean the scrapes and cuts that scatter all over him. If it bothered him, he never made it known. The silence is very loud as you focus on making this quick and discreet as he had asked. “Why’d you never go to Berkeley?”
The way your breath hitches in your throat makes you release a forced cough. The memory of when you mentioned it to him a few years ago resurfaces.
“You gotta swing by sometimes. I’ll cook up a better meal than something that you can cook in the microwave.” Oscar juts his chin to the ramen bowls in your arms.
A big smile on your face as you back into the bodega doors to exit, a similar smile forming on his lips. “Maybe.”
Upon learning of a party at the Santo Trap house, where the alleged Martinez brothers were roaming completely wasted, you couldn’t help being curious about it.
“No mames, she actually showed up. Vamos, got some flautas inside.” Oscar leads you through the busy bodies of the party into his kitchen.
The food is much better, as he insisted early that day it would be, especially with all the sides he quickly whips up.
To everyone else, it had to look strange. The two of you always had some kind of unspoken thing with each other. While most girls around him had something going on, you were different. You were something lasting, while most were temporary.
“Ruby says you applied to Berkeley?” He says to you, finishing off the meal and now drinking the night away.
As you take a drink, you nod and smile, “I did, I mean I gotta try, right?” The quirk in your smiles makes the corners of his mouth lift, so much so that he needs to wipe his face to ease it.
“You gonna do great. Nothing you can’t do, hm?” His voice is a near whisper.You inhale and ponder on what to say next as his eyes watch you intently.
As he awaits your response, you think of what would sound like a legit reason why you never left. That it seemed like nonsense all of a sudden? or him. Family over everything? There was also him. Ah! It would cost too much to move upstate? But most of all, him.
It’s a stupid thing, to stay behind for some guy. And Oscar wasn’t the entire reason either but he did pop up a lot before you made the decision.Your shoulders lift and fall, “It wasn’t the right time, I guess. Stay still.” He moves from your hand to get a better look at you. At the lie you just spoke.
The defeat shows and you lean back, looking at the bottle of tequila and then to him. This is probably the most vulnerable that Oscar will ever be with you. So you take a swig and look up at him, trying to find those words again.
”Yo, Y/N. You running a daycare or something?” Oscar sounds from across the street. You draw your attention to him and grin. He looks at the 3 little kids trailing behind you, all busy with their snow cones.
You let out a laugh, turning to look at the kids then at him. You use a hand to shade the sun over your eyes when you yell, “I have no idea who they are! I guess I’m magnetic like that?” A shrill of disagreements from the little ones who claim that you do know that and it’s mean to say otherwise.
Oscar shakes his head and wants to say more to you as he wipes his oil-covered hands on a rag, like it’s true that you are magnetic and how he hopes you realize just how much. But instead he waves and you go on about your day. His eyes follow you until you disappear around the corner.
“Was that your boyfriend?” Your cousin’s daughter tugs on your flannel. His flannel, actually.
You blush and immediately deny the question, “He isn’t. He is just a friend. Whose askin’?” The fits of laughter sounds.
“Us!” They all say and fire more questions about him. Like how tall is he? Does he like you? Do you like him? Have you ever kissed him?
A ghost feeling spreads on your lips as you think about the kiss that has never happened or maybe it was the chilling temperature from your snow cone. You merely sigh at their questions and all the thoughts him.
The room is quiet once again as you both sit back in the kitchen chairs of Ruben and Geny Martinez. Oscar keeps his eyes locked on yours and you huff, moving to trash the bloody gauze.
“Maybe I wanted to go because only I thought I wanted something new and exciting. But I started thinking that someone doesn’t have to leave or enroll in college or join a gang to make something of themselves. You make the most of what you got first.” Your speech sounding inspiring, Oscar thinks to himself, a smug grin on his face that you can’t see.
When you round in front of him again, he looks up as you cross your arms, “And not making the most of something when it is right in front of you? Well it would suck so, I needed to make sure that college was something I wanted and that I wouldn’t leave behind something that could be more for me.”
“Even if that more could hurt you, kill you even?” He asks with a serious face and a stern voice.
The way Oscar has your arm in his grasp, dragging you swiftly on the side way in the dead of the night is both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
When you planned to march up to him tonight and tell him you are sick of the mixed emotions, the constant cat and mouse chase, you didn’t think a drive by would ensue. You can’t get the image of him sprinting towards you to pull down into the grass and beneath him.
“Estas loca?! Showing up like that. The fuck were you thinking?” His voice a hushed growl as he starts up the driveway of your home, nearly 3 streets over.
You were quiet all this time but when he spoke those words, you erupt! “I don’t know what the hell I was thinking. I don’t know, Oscar! I never know. It’s like everything seems so aligned with you and the food, the drinking, the way you pop up. What is it with you?!”
Oscar looks stumped as you word vomit, your voice echoing in the streets. But you don’t give any more time to answer and you shoulder him and trek through your garage into the kitchen.
It would be weeks till you saw him again.
That again would be right now. You sink down to your knees in front of him and take an alcohol-soaked gauze to press against the cuts on his hands. He can see the wheel turning in your head. “Yeah… even if it could hurt me or possibly kill me, I think.”
He pulls his hands from your grasp and leans forward so that your faces are mere inches from each other’s. His breath hits your lips as you stare at his bruised and battered ones. When you move your eyes to look into his eyes, a smile creeps on his face.
Oscar takes your face in his hands and presses your lips in an explosive kiss against his that tastes of tequila and copper. A kiss that has been long overdue. It slows everything around you down, like the world vanished and there, just the two of you.
The sound of a slow clap echoes and your kiss stops. With his hands still holding your face, the two of you move your faces towards the sound that comes from abuela.
“It’s about time. You two pining for one another lasted longer than my last joint and you know I stretch those motherfuckers! Here,” She waltzes over with the joint, still unlit, and presses it into Oscar’s chest all while she shoos you away. She sets down a needle and thread, intending to stitch Oscar’s neck lac.
He lights up and pulls you to sit on his lap to let the patch work begin. Both on his neck and the space between you two.
