As much as I really think that EVERYONE who holds ONE job of at least 30 hours a week should never have to worry about rent or groceries EVER, I also think raising the minimum wage will just lead to corporations inflating their prices so within a short time that $25 an hour spends like $10 now. We need to consider rent and food price controls hand and hand with wage increases.

Rent and food price controls are absolutely a good idea. However it is worth noting that when California increased its minimum wage to $20/hr, it caused very little overall inflation (1.5% roughly per this article).

One thing that this doeant mention is that this bill also ends "subminimum wage" being legal!

From the website of the representative proposing this:

The legislation also eliminates all subminimum wages, including for tipped workers, youth workers, and workers with disabilities — ensuring that every worker is guaranteed a full wage from their employer, with no exceptions.

This ends the discrepancy in how disabled individuals, youth, and tipped workers are paid which is LONG fucking overdue - and frankly, just as exciting as the wage increase

Disabled Americans are not guaranteed minimum wage. Because of the concept of a subminimum wage.

In short - subminimum wage refers to the legal reality that if you dont preform a task at the same speed as another worker, you can legally be paid less for the same amount of time if you are disabled.

Spesifically, if "earning or productive capacity is impaired"

Here is an example from a very good article that breaks this down:

...if a nondisabled worker produces 10 shoes an hour for $7.25, a disabled worker who produces five shoes an hour receives $3.63, despite performing the same task for the same amount of time.

This is legal and this bill aims to end that discrimination. This is very important and something that disability rights activists have been calling for for many years.

As stated earlier, this also helps people who are in tipping jobs! This would guarantee that even on a slow shift, or a shift with people who dont tip well, staff are paid minimum wage.

This is extremely important.

If you can, call your representatives in order to support this bill. Letting them know you want this is a very good way to help it get passed!

70% Drop in Levels of Forever Chemicals Observed in Seabird Eggs Tracks Regulatory Success

These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.

While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.

Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.

We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
