Concept: Crutchie bringing Jack home from a date and giving him a good-bye kiss that quickly turns into full-on making out, and they make out for a good few minutes until they hear Medda's voice from nowhere - "Y'all gonna breathe anytime soon?" Because she loves embarrassing her son and his boyfriend.

Spot passes out at everything. Running the mile in PE? Bam he's blacked out for ten minutes. His first kiss with Race? He falls limp into a very confused Race's arms. Giving a speech in front of the class for his speech class? He's out cold for half an hour. His parents 100% accepting him when he told them he was Gay? He fell over and hit his head on the edge of the counter, requiring stitches. Finding out that Race had his soulmate experience and not knowing who? Boom, he's on the ground.

He tries? So hard? To not? He knows it’s the most Extra thing about him, but when he gets nervous his head just starts spinning and then he’s down. He hides it from people mostly, especially with public speaking, because he’s really good? At slam poetry and he loves it so he gets over that one before he’s done with highschool but other than that? He goes down so easily.

It’s really concerning? One time the entire group was watching like, The Exorcist or some horror movie like that and Spot was sitting on the couch, kind of leaning forward and sideways against Race and then he’s on the ground and people are like ???? what the hell? and Race’s response is “yeah he does that.”

Spot’s contact name in Race and Jack’s phones is Fainting Goat because of it. Sometimes it doesn’t even make sense, either. Like usually, the reason is apparent, he’s stressed or something scary happened, sometimes it’s like, he’s having a bad day and then his headphones catch on the kitchen cabinet and he’s on the ground. One time he passed out in a pizza place because there was an olive on his pizza and he hates olives. People tried to cal 911 and Race was like, relax, he’ll wake up in a second, just make sure there’s no olives on his pizza next time.

When he proposes to Race? “Will you marry me? *passes out for half an hour, wakes up to a text saying “yes but I went to get pizza”*

Sometimes it does end up scary, though, when he falls in the wrong place. He’s hurt his head before from landing wrong, one time he fall down a few flights of stairs and broke his wrist, the worst was when he passed out from riding his bike for too long and he went down off the side of the path and ended up needing a hospital visit.

His wedding day? Passed out at the altar. High school graduation? Out cold instead of giving his valedictorian speech. Watching Race’s track meets in college? Passed out from getting too into it. His head just starts moving so fast it’s overwhelming and then it shuts down.

It’s Okay to Cry

Jack was the closest thing most of his newsies had to a father. He was the one who wiped the little one’s noses when they ran, who gave up his food when they were going hungry, who read the bedtime stories out loud when they couldn’t sleep. Jack was the one who held them close, who walked with them to help clear their heads, who kissed their foreheads and pulled a blanket tight around them every night, who made sure they drank water in the summer and wrapped the holes in their shoes tight in the winter.

Jack was also the one who listened when they came to him in the middle of the night, trying their hardest to hold back their tears.

“It’s okay to cry.” He would whisper, wrapping them in with him in his own blanket.

“It’s okay to cry.” To Romeo, scared to death after seeing his father for the first time in years.

“It’s okay to cry.” To Crutchie, waking up after a nightmare with terror in his eyes, choked up and trying his hardest to be strong.

“It’s okay to cry.” To Finch, coming up wondering if him “pretending” to be a boy was wrong, even though Jack and everyone who knew him knew he was more of a man than anyone else they knew.

“It’s okay to cry.” To Specs, scared as his hearing got worse and worse, as he relied more and more on Romeo and hand signs to get by.

“It’s okay to cry.” To himself, a reminder when he caught himself holding back after waking up from memories that hurt.

Somehow, though, he never expected to be saying it to a boy he’d never expected to see in that alley, fourteen years old and stronger than anyone else he knew.

“It’s okay to cry.” He said quietly to Spot Conlon, the boy everyone was so scared of, as he tried to hold himself together in an alley in Manhattan, scared and alone. “It’s okay to cry.” He repeated as Spot finally gave in, slowly relaxing into Jack’s arms until Jack was hugging him close and he was sobbing. “It’s okay to cry.” Jack whispered one last time as Spot somehow pulled himself together and stood up, slipping back into what Jack could see now was a mask of toughness and stone. 

And Spot Conlon nodded and offered Jack a spit-in hand, which Jack accepted as he pulled the small boy to his feet.

Because it was. It was okay to cry.

yes I love jack, davey, crutchie, les and spot. but I would like to acknowledge some of the unsung heroes of newsies the musical.

the ensemble deserves just as much love.

race- nobody can tell me that he doesn’t have some of the most iconic lines in the show. also he manages to do everything the others do, with a cigar in his mouth. -Ryan Breslin, Giuseppe Bausilio, Ben Cook, Daniel Switzer-

specs- is the newsie that knows everything, he gave jacks sketches to Katherine and sparked the beginning of the children’s crusade. -Ryan Steele, John Michael Fiumara, Jordan Samuels-

buttons- possibly the saltiest of all the newsies, constantly calling everyone out, while still managing to look innocent and adorable. -JP Ferreri, Jess LeProtto, Damon Gillespie, Chaz Wolcott-

jojo- without a doubt, no matter the cast, always has the biggest smile, and best expressions on that stage. -Corey Hommerston, Thayne Jasperson, Nico Greetham, Joshua Burrage-

finch- single handedly made slingshots cool again. -Aaron Albano, Julian DeGuzman, David Guzman, Iain Young-

mush- that kid can always tumble like nobodys business -Max Ehrich, Ephram Sykes, David Guzman, Jack Sippel, Nick Masson-

albert- one of the few newsies that can challenge race’s sass. -Garett Hawe, Daniel Quadrino, Sky Flaherty-

sniper- was played by a girl for the entirety of the tour. damn. -Scott Shendenhelm, Alex Wong, Jacob Guzman, Ginna Claire Mason, Kaitlyn Frank, Daniel Switzer-

mike/morris- it takes a lot of takent to make a bully likeable, and yet somehow they manage to do it. -Mike Faist, Adam Kaplan, Mike Ryan, Devin Lewis-

ike/oscar- both the delanceys have some insane quick changes, yet still never miss an entrance. -Brendon Stimpson, Jon Hacker, Anthony Norman-

smalls- get it kid, be proud of the bronx. -Laurie Valdheer, Molly Jobe, Josh Assor, Julian DeGuzman-

henry- is here to keep things real and will show you who’s boss. also can’t understand race. -Kyle Coffman, Iain Young, DeMarius Copes, Michel Rios-
