i'm also remembering fondly (fond annoyance, maybe) that time a few years ago when somebody kept picking fights with me because i called pulitzer the villain of newsies and just. couldn't seem to understand the difference between historical real person joseph pulitzer, a real life person who cannot be simplified into black and white good or bad, and the character of pulitizer in the musical newsies, who has an entire song and reprise about how he is more than aware of his actions causing harm to children and chooses to do them anyway because it might make him richer than he already is. that was very funny.

I've somehow wound up back on Newsies after years of having escaped the obsession, soooo here we go 🙏

davey jacobs whos sceptical at first but supportive of the strike, because it was, technically, his idea

davey jacobs who looks out for his little brother and tries so hard to shield him from trouble, even when they all get wrapped up in the fighting

davey jacobs who finds out that this group of newsies understand him better than any of his school friends, because these boys truly understand what it’s like to be in his position

davey jacobs who finds himself unable to hide the grin playing on his face when he tells jack they made front page news (above the fold!!)

davey jacobs who realises that he finds so many beautiful things in jack kelly and that he’d do anything for this boy

davey jacobs who ends up getting home late after talking with jack on the rooftop for hours, taking his mama’s fond concern with an awkward smile (he’s pretty sure she can tell there’s something going on there- she’s pointed out the fact they’re this close before)

davey jacobs who looses his tie and rolls up his sleeves, fully prepared to play deciding factor in whatever game racer’s dragged les into this time, because it’s bound to come to a tie

davey jacobs who finds himself in this rowdy group of newsboys and their leader, and who loves every second
