“It’s our shop, we reserve the right to deny anyone any tattoo. Trust me, the shop’s reputation isn’t suffering. Most tattoo places deny intoxicated customers too, it’s not safe. Uh, sorta, you should be hydrating all the time–– even if you’re not an artist. No, yeah, absolutely. That makes total sense.  You can totally come down anytime you want and we can work something out with your tattoo, nah, I’m not tired of you. Not yet anyways but I’m willing to bet that would take a lot to annoy me.”

“It’s just so fascinating to me like I’ve always wondered about tattoo artists like they must get a lot of drunk people coming in to get tattooed and like a favourite design they always have. So do you do like templates or preorders or is it just like custom design? So for example say I come in and I want something small like a love heart on my finger, do you still do those things because surely that’s not $200 is it? Or do you specialise in like elaborate designs?”

“Well, don’t trust any artist who tattoos drunk people. I’ll tell you that much. They’re a nuisance during the entire process — fidgeting, distracting, nodding off then jerking awake, aloof, changing their mind back and forth, too impulsive. It’s awful. Not to mention that alcohol thins the blood, so they’re more likely to bruise and delay the healing process. Everything is hand drawn, like, there aren’t carbon copies unless they’re a poster tattoo. ‘Preorders’ are like.. consultations before you actually get it done, a meeting where I draw something up, you give me notes and I make changes for when you come back. Well, the fee is for opening the needle, and the station –– if you want just a small heart, I wouldn’t suggest coming to a shop that mostly specializes in larger pieces. “

While in Miami a friend had taught her how to make a sofrito to add a new layer of depth to her spaghetti sauce, and she loved it. “If by a minute you mean a decade, then yes. It was – nice. It started out rough because you know I just jump into heavy things, but after we went to lunch and well, I wouldn’t hate it if we went again.” 

Athena opted to not even bothering to fight her on the fact that she didn’t deny the cuddles, she could never –– unless she was angry and well, that almost never happened around Harper. The older woman was definitively a light in her life and at this point, she couldn’t imagine living without her. “I don’t have the clap, you fucker. Doing a little bit of a cleanse, y’know? Sex isn’t everything... most days.” The tattoo artist said, offering a playful wink. “I think you’re right, Harps. It’s a Disney pipe dream.” The possibility of Elsa being gay in the squeal was already causing quite the ruckus, never mind a poly, bisexual princess. That would be too way much for Disney. Harper was one of the few people who knew the full details of Athena’s life, the life that she left behind. One that she wasn’t actively looking to go back to but knew that it’d be one she’d have to if it ever called. “No, no, I wouldn’t want you to if it ever came to that, Harper.” She said, her voice shifting to a little more serious tone. She would never, ever want to involve Harper in her mess, especially when it came to Untouchables. Watching her, she reach out to sneak a sliver of the pepper, munching on the raw veggie. “Well, yes, I did mean ten years. Where’d you run into her? Am I gonna have to run up on her?”

So sorry for all the questions this just fascinates me but how much do you usually charge for a tattoo and like what is the most common tattoo that you do? I have other questions but I don’t want to overwhelm you”

“I’m pretty sure a lot of places do it but yeah.  No, no, no worries! It all depends on what the tattoo is and who the artist is! Our shop has a $200 minimum, so that’s the least you’ll pay at our place. Bigger pieces obviously will cost more and also depends on artists. As for most common, at High Voltage we do a lot of custom work so t’s all different all the time! Portraits are a specialty of mine but I’m also super luck that I was trained in a number of different styles and am really versed in what I do. But portraits and lettering are my favorites. No worries, I love talking about this stuff.”
