How to Thank Your Customers and Drive Business in 2013
The holiday season is the perfect time to give back and thank your customers for another year of business. This should be nothing new, as we should be doing this throughout the year with follow up phone calls and emails, however the end of the year ‘thank you’ can result in early returns in 2013. Even though we are all working with different budgets and have different goals in mind, these suggestions will come as a welcome surprise for your customers keep them thinking about your company in to the new year.
Handwritten Cards
The hardest budget to work with is no budget at all, but it doesn’t mean that you should ignore the idea of saying thank you. Think back to your childhood when you were in the same situation and mom or dad’s birthday was right around the corner. You sat down with a piece of paper and a box of crayons. And which cards do mom and dad they still have? Exactly, a hand written card is always the most meaningful. With no help from Hallmark or a template to work from, you are forced to speak from the heart and express how much their business really means to you.
Food
It wouldn’t be holidays without delicious treats waiting for us day after day, so on January 1 on New Year’s Resolution once again is no sweets. A box of chocolates, a gift basket of meats and cheeses or for those who are conscience of their diet, some exotic fruit can make a great gift. Go as far as buying an entire office lunch. Yes, the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and a great meal can stay imprinted in their mind of a long time.
Branded Items
This form of gift is the most tradition approach. A promotional product printed with your company logo and personal information can ensure that your customers always have your contact information. However, to leave a last impression, there are a few things to consider.
Useful – make sure the item is something they will use more often than not. Something like a personalized calendar that sits on their desk is something you know they will see 365 days of the year.
Relevant – The more relevant the item is to your business the more customers can relate to your company. If you’re in a difficult niche or having problems thinking of something concrete that people could relate to, explore custom stress balls. They have such a wide variety of shapes and sizes you are bound to find something. Does your company do multiple things or into creativity? Why not try a gift like a Swiss Army knife.
Quality/Quantity – As nice as it would be to find something that you could send to each and every one of your customers, sometimes that isn’t possible. It may also mean a little more if you spent your budget on fewer high end items for your best customers than a cheaper product for everyone. Finding a balance between the two could see bigger returns.
Gift Card/Coupon
It seems that everyone’s favorite gift for that hard to please person is a gift card. They eliminate the pain and frustration of looking for that particular something by giving them the option to choose. Gift cards are a great way to drive return business by giving them free money to spend with you! Coupons and promo codes are a fantastic way to drive new customers looking for last minute gifts. They can also be a simple thank you to your existing client base sent in an email or posted on your blog. Whatever you choose, it’s always important to follow up after the first of the year and welcome them to 2013!
