Far From Home | {Holiday} Open
Ā Jazmine practically grinned at him. She found Eliās fumbling and blushing oddly adorable. Of course, sheād never admit to thatāunless she was going to tease him about it.
"Youāre welcome," she replied, shifting on her feet a bit awkwardly then. Does she just leave now or should she say something else? She did what she came here to do, and now what? She never realized she was this socially awkward. It was a little sad. But Kane saved her from an extended awkward silence.
"Oh," Jazmine said, tilting her head at the box, "youāre decorating."
She hasnāt decorated, or even celebrated Christmas in years. But she remembered sitting on Yancyās shoulders as a child, trying to put the star up on their tree. She remembered laughter and happiness. And then she remembered cold and loneliness. Jazmine shook her head, avoiding the past, and she took the box from Kane. āSure, Iāll help. I donāt have to go back to the lab until a few hours, anyway.ā
"Well," Eli nodded, "come on in!" He pushed aside his embarrassment caused by his brother. The tree was still half-bare and Kane still wanted to hang lights around the room. Christmas was a big deal for them back home and being a million miles away wouldn't stop them from celebrating.
Kane handed Jaz the box of ornaments and got to work untangling the lights to hang around the room. "Your family ever do anything big for Christmas? Or, do you guys celebrate something else?" With all the different people in one area it was hard to make assumptions, especially around the holidays. "Our family used to do this big whole ordeal every year," Kane said as he untangled the first strand. Eli looked up from hanging ornaments to hear her response.
