Rainbow Spring Rolls with Ginger Peanut Sauce
Today, my therapist was talking about how the smallest bits of self-care ā even making yourself a mug of warm tea ā are a way of recognizing your own worth, and how meaningful they are when you really dislike yourself.Ā āAfter all,ā she said,Ā āI donāt know about you, but I donāt often make tea for people I hate.ā
And that really hit me, especially because Iām an acts-of-service kind of person and tea is one of my go-to ways to show people that Iām thinking about them, care about them, and hope their day could be a little better. So maybe when I make tea for myself, Iām saying that to myself, too, that Iām thinking of my own needs, caring for myself, and trying to make my day a little better.Ā
And thatās really important to me because a lot of days I struggle to do basic things to keep myself going and just feel like Iām self-destructive, only ever making things worse⦠but most days I still manage to make myself a mug of tea or two. And itās good to know that that matters.Ā

2021 has been all over the place so far. It started off genuinely really well. I decided to do Dry January and also take a break from smoking weed (which Iāve decided to stretch out for the full month as well) and the decision to abstain for the month led me to wanting to be healthier in other ways as well. I was doing yoga and stretching more regularly, getting up fairly early every day, drinking much more tea than coffee, spending a lot of time reading, and overall just feeling really good about my habits. Then... I got Covid. :) One of the families I tutor for tested positive the day after I saw them, so at least it didnāt come as a surprise, but shit. Itās been a week and a half since I tested positive and Iām starting to feel better but itās been quite rough. I havenāt had any energy and I lost my taste and smell a few days in (although after 5 days, it seems to be coming back which is a relief). My sinuses have been going crazy and Iāve had a headache more often then not. Itās also just been a long time to be inside even more than usual, and I miss just going for walks and rollerskating. I also have had no appetite, which losing my sense of taste certainly didnāt help. Iāve definitely had a milder case than some people, but Iām just bummed that this happened right when I became eligible for the vaccine. Iāve also had too much time alone with my brain during this period where Iām overall not feeling good, and Iām sad that I started off the year feeling so positive about everything and then this happened. Thankfully today is my last day of isolation, and tomorrow I can go for a walk and get a coffee and hopefully start to get back to the good vibes I was feeling at the beginning of the month. At least I have a full year ahead of me after this! Itās going to start getting warmer and weāll be able to be outside more frequently again and Iāll get vaccinated and hopefully, hopefully things will get better.
i know the new year wonāt magically erase everything bad happening in the world but i hope 2021 is kinder to you all and that it brings brighter moments and healingĀ

Weāre bringing you along on a virtual hike! The Scout Camp Loop weaves with the wild Deschutes River in central Oregon. The 2-mile trail begins on a flat plateau among juniper trees and steeply descends into a wide canyon that holds a raging river. Saunter across canyon summits to hear the rush of a waterway and the whisper of the wind as it slips through brush. Video by Bob Wick, Bureau of Land Management. Ā
