Wrapping an arm around her waist, he pulls her into a side hug, beams as she says sheâs going to cook him something. Thatâs just what he needed to hear to make him feel even better & forget all about the pain in his arm. âYes, yes, letâs go! Wow, I justâ have I told you youâre the best lately? Because you are.â
âyouâre a baby,â she scolds, âtea is good for you. be grateful iâm not giving you kuding like i do for everyone else.â but her words arenât sharp the way theyâd be with any of the staff if they refused her care; she can hear the genuine appreciation in his voice underneath his complaint, and it softens her tone with him. itâs just one more way jaewooâs found himself in her confidence â she can be gentler and sillier with him, too.
yeon ruffles his hair and laughs when he reciprocates with a hug and a bigger smile, a mirror to hers. âof course i am, iâm your,â she tosses her hair over her shoulder with a coquettish smirk, âmulti-talented chatelaine. letâs go!â she releases his shoulders, too short for it to be comfortable for either of them, and starts walking to the kitchen, pinning her hair back in place before she encounters any of the other staff.
âwhat do you want to eat, jae?â a mental inventory of the pantry tells her sheâs got enough extra tonight for either black sesame porridge or brown sugar pancakes, so she adds, âheukimjajuk, or hotteok?â
âIâll be more careful the next time I have to go out there to do something for Lady Jidora, I promise!â & heâll train harder too, even though Yeonâs just said he doesnât have to. âAnd I will make sure to talk to you first thing when I come back. Because I know how bored & lonely you get here without me,â Jae says, the smallest of smiles coming to his lips.
to do something for lady jidora â yeon has never pried, or tried to pry, into what jidora asks of the lackeys; she knows her lady too well, and knows that itâll only wear away at the red string that ties them together. as it is now sheâs still able to turn a blind eye, to turn some of jidoraâs less than ethical decisions into a small form of kindness for the spirits, but if she pushed any further she knows she might find something that she wouldnât be able to reconcile with.
but jidora isnât the only one sheâs connected to, and jaewoo is right in front of her now. yeon laughs and shakes her head, her simple and elegant hairpin coming loose. it doesnât worry her; she doesnât need to be the poised and calm chatelaine around him. âiâm too busy to be bored or lonely, but if youâre free... you could always help me around the hotel. i hear haetaes are especially good with unclogging baths,â she teases, trying to pull the small smile from jaewoo into something bigger, but also to distract him from the pain thatâs evident on his face from the wound. âno extra training needed for that, too!â
she finishes with the salve, wrapping the wound up in a light gauze with practiced, firm actions. âthere you go.â she takes the pot of salve and the rest of the gauze to the shelf, adding, âkeep it out of water, and come over so i can change the dressing tomorrow, okay? if you need something for the pain, hmm,â she tiptoes and uses her fingertips to snag a small pouch of the blend of herbs sheâd gotten from the healerâs store, âmake some tea with this.â
yeon pushes the pot back into its rightful place, then turns to jaewoo, tiptoeing once more to swing an arm around his shoulders, taking care not to jostle his injured arm. âcâmon, one of the back kitchens is empty, iâll cook you something good!â
âI must start training harder from now onâŠâ He mumbles, mostly to himself, a sigh following his words. âAnyway, Iâm sorry I always bother you when things like this happen,â he tells Yeon â she is one of the very few people Jaewoo really trusts & he usually turns to her whenever he needs help with something.
the medicinal salve is pungent, but thatâs what makeâs it good â good medicine tastes bitter, after all. yeon pulls his arm closer to her and gets to work cleaning the wound with a bit of spirit-blessed river water to stave off any infections before she applies the salve, using slow and gentle swipes.
âthis is going to sting,â she warns, putting down the cloth and taking a scoop of the salve with her fingers and starting to apply it directly to the gashes on his arm, firm but gentle with it. itâs not uncommon for jidora to send the lackeys on less than absolutely safe missions, so injuries like jaewooâs are expected; itâs why yeon has an entire stock of salves, ointments and medicines for cases like these. with jaewoo, however, she takes extra effort to care for his wound, the young haetae having made a small place in her heart with the years heâs been around the hotel and her having started to fill in the hole heâs got in place of family.
âyou donât have to train harder, jae,â she says, catching his whispered admonishment, âjust be a little more careful next time. you managed to do what lady jidora asked, didnât you?â yeon smiles at him, genuine and approving, and taps his foot with hers in a little gesture of fondness. âyouâre not being a bother, donât worry.â
itâs getting late into the night, cool breeze crystalising into something a little colder, a little harsher. the bathhouse is bustling with activity, patrons aching to escape the less-than-ideal temperatures but yeon finds herself with nothing much to do, well-trained attendants walking with urgency and poise to each customer that needs attention.
one of the bells at the reception rings, and itâs a floor high enough to catch her eye. the guest checked into it is tagonâs recently emancipated mountain spirit, and the staff assigned to her room, currently occupied with another customer, eyes the bell with some wariness, then glances at yeon nervously.
âmistress yeon,â the frog spirit starts, his croak anxious and unhappy, and yeon smiles and nods to him.
âiâll handle it.â
the hand-cranked elevator goes up into the higher floors of the pagoda, finally reaching the mountain spiritâs floor. yeon places her hands one over the other, the picture of perfect poise, and knocks on the door to the guestâs room.
the edges of her deep blue robes flutter behind her as she enters the shop, smiling gently at the young jindo manning the front of the house today. âgood afternoon,â she greets, nodding her head at him. his parents are nowhere to be found, and the only other customer in the shop spies the telltale sign of jidoraâs chatelaine and exits the doorway with a scornful glance.
taking the small parchment from her sleeve, she hands it over to the boy. âone of each here, and, i think...â she leans against the counter, an amicable, friendly smile twinkling in her eyes, âforty packets of herbs for reducing yang. itâs been hot lately, and i donât want my staff to be overworked. thatâs enough, donât you think?â her tone is light and conversational, and meant to draw the guileless spirit into talk of the hotel. after all, this isnât just a trip to the herbs shop â sheâd like to return with a new worker in tow as well.
hello hello! boy m i EXCITED hehe im trina & this is my first bby, yeon! currently living in the hotel & working as jidoraâs chatelaine, youâll see her mostly around the east (hotel, wealthy estates, main street) or the forest village in the west. sheâs an old lil tortoise spirit & with @spxseonâ they become the hyeonmu, black warrior/protector of the north :) sheâs mostly chill & calm now, being as impartial as she can in the hotel, but she did start out as a troublemaker so... :^)
about & plots, under the cut is misc info & more plots! please tap that like button if u wanna plot c:
so... i adapted her bio from the story of hyeonmu! sheâs born from him taking out his sins/humanity, and then goes n causes havoc with her sister/twin/wtv u call being born from one dudes bad shit at the same time
after a struggle btw hyeonmu the general & hyeonmu the spirits (theyâve got the same name lmao), they agree to accompany him for 1000 years, & theyâve only recently (ish) left, so yeonâs been at the hotel for not too long, about half a century or so
at the hotel: jidora is her kinda-gf! jk, but there r uhhhhhh Feelings on her side, which blinds her a lil to the fact that the spirits who work at the hotel have their names/powers taken. she tries to make up for it by being impartial & never putting the guests above the staff, as well as providing as much as she can for the staff
on her down time: she doesnât get too much of it, but she gets to abandon the airs of a chatelaine and the duties of one half of the hyeonmu, and yeon is less put together, a lil more mischievous, silly & less imposing heheÂ
plots!
as jidoraâs chatelaine, she makes trips outside of the hotel often:
to liaise with wealthy customers
coordinate with suppliers / commissioned jobs
recruit some spirits who look like they need the protection of the lady
also has the unfortunate duty of communicating her ladyâs wishes to lord tagon & the wizard :/ so
vassals, who have to deal w the fact that both their employers hate each other (lol)
bodyguards, sheâll fite if u threaten jidora
witch&wizard, whenever the hotel needs something magical done
since seon lives in the forest village they have monthly meals together hehe, so anyone living around that area would be familiar with her face!
staff at the hotel:
older ones, whoâve been here before her
newer ones who listen to her w a bit of reverence since sheâs the one who handles their day-to-day
staff who dislike her for her position
staff who want to be promoted & are trying to get into her good graces
customers at the hotel:
regulars who come once a week or something, sheâs familiar with them & knows all their wants & desires
someone she knows from her past adventures that she bested and is having fun ordering her around now
high status guests whose every wish she has to cater to
from her past adventures:
people sheâs come across once & has re-met
a victim of the chaos she created when she was younger
good friends from her old adventures
