i need young gays and queers to understand that drag isn't about "men in dresses" or mocking feminity, trans women, or anything like that. drag is historically and always will be about subverting expectations, creating conversation about difficult subjects, directly confronting bigotry and transphobia, and turning gender expression into a literal performance, which is a direct commentary on how gay, trans, queer people have to turn our lives into literal performance acts in order to be seen. it has historically been performed by cis gay men, gnc men, gnc women, and trans people of all stripes. drag is open to people of any gender, it's not exclusive to cis gay men- everyone is encouraged to be drag royalty if you have the spirit of defying social expectations of what gender "should" look like.
drag is awesome and i encourage you to find your local gay scene and find where your local drag royalty perform. you will have a better understanding when you see it for yourself, not hear it be explained.
