It’s really hard to describe the sinking feeling of having displeased the person that holds the reins of your emotions.

As much as you want to rip them out of their hands, you feel stuck as if doing so would give you almost too much freedom.

You focus on what they want in life. Of what they would approve. You shy away from things they would find negative. You don’t truly live.

And every time you let their imagined words in your head take control of how you feel, it’s like you’re rewarding the little feeling inside when really it’s just your perceptions guiding how you feel because you know how they’ll react. Sure, they’ll usually react how you think they will, but why feel bad about it before that happens?

My goal is to stop that habit. I guess I’m already working on resolutions.

First Step Into A New Life

Wow, it’s been a while, hasn’t it, Tumblr?

I decided that I needed to keep track of things for me. A huge thing happened yesterday; my best friend and sister decided she could no longer eat any kind of animal product. She lives with me, so as you would imagine, I’m going to be sharing a lot of the journey with her.

A lot of people think about the word ‘Vegan’ and think of it as a curse word. They think of it as a title that no one wants. That was part of her concern. 

But my question is, why does anyone care what anyone else eats?

We had the discussion that stuffing something down another person’s throat is the absolute way to get ridiculed for being something that a person is; she agreed. And I believe she’s found real peace within herself.

That being said, I want to keep a blog of the things that we do and try together. :D I’m not completely Vegan (yet,) but I wanna try the journey as soon as it’s feasible. The idea intrigues me. Her problem with the notion of meat is that she can’t stand the thought of chewing flesh anymore. 

She’s been gradually making the transition, but it really culminated when we bought turkey burgers that were on sale. I was patting them out to make meatloaf burgers, and the smell was horrible. They had gone slightly off, but she told me that as she was chewing, the word ‘decomposing’ passed through her mind.

That was about two weeks ago.

Since then, she’s made a gradual transition that swapped ‘suddenly,’ but I’ve been seeing it coming for a while. And we’re both at peace with it (though I don’t have to be, it helps that I am.) I fully support her.

Yesterday, she made her first veggie burger from chickpeas and black beans. It was pretty good. The only thing lacking was a little salt, but neither of us minded. :D

We took a trip to Whole Foods, too. We could only stay about an hour because it’s a good hour away (two hour round trip,) but it was nice. We’re gonna be going back.

I just wanted to log the happenings. ~U~
