Psychosomatic
Educated, intelligent people of the world, why has it become ok to speak like bimbos?
I know intelligent, interesting people, people well past their teenage years, who use terms like âawesomenessâ. Om nom nom is equally depressing. An acquaintance of mine (a medical doctor) included in a recent facebook status update the âwordâ boredness, as in âI am dying of borednessâ. Iâm pretty sure she was aware of the word boredom, so why is using cutesy shit words so appealing to her??
And exactly when did it become ok to speak like this? These people Iâm referring to arenât morons nor are they uneducated. It has just become socially acceptable, even a measure of social capital, to speak like a freaking idiot.
I must admit though that even though I am aware, Iâm not immune. Iâve been known to adopt the same shitty language as a way of demonstrating Iâm part of an âinâ group at times. But at least Iâve had the decency to immediately hate myself afterwards.
The pseudo-feminist inside me thinks there is some link with the desire to be youthful or at least to appear non-threatening. Mainly as it appears to be an affliction that predominantly affects females. A variety of baby-talk one can adopt publicly. Obviously no-one, at least no-one worth a damn, will take you seriously while you speak like that.Â
I donât know. Itâs all very sad.
On an unrelated note, this is only my second ever post. I am not a writer (but how could anyone tell, itâs all so coherent! Yes, thatâs sarcasm right there) but rather a maths/psych grad student with a penchant for statistics. In future I anticipate my posts to be less me complaining about the ridiculously small things that shit me and more about the larger issues Iâm exposed to through my choice of education and the general ageing process.
Word of the day: psychosomatic. Youâre welcome x
