Voting for the Brexit correlated with age: The older voters were, the more likely they were to support removing the U.K. from the E.U. And also less likely to feel the long term effects. For voters, Brexit essentially came down to two things.
the general gist of #brexit
the uk has voted to leave the european union for a lot of reasons but the main being xenophobia and immigration laws against refuges
the uk has been governed by the european union up until now – because they don’t have their own constitution or bill of rights or anything of the sort, they’ve been dependent on the EU for guidance
by leaving, the uk is no longer under any trade laws, union agreements, any sort of legislation or statue or agreement which is just…yikes
the pound has dropped to its lowest value in over 35 years and the world economy is in flux by the upset
scotland voted to remain in the EU so like yikes part two
basically: @britian wyd
okay point by point
definitely correct
definitely definitely not in any way correct. the uk is absolutely self-governing, just because they don’t have a formal written constitution doesn’t mean they don’t have like, fucking laws. a codification of human rights. they are a real country. “they’ve been dependent on the EU for guidance” hoo boy not touching that one.
to be clear, this was a referendum. technically, it’s not even legally binding. it’s binding in the sense that any politician who votes against the will of the people will lose their jobs at the next available opportunity, but the point is that the UK has not left the EU and it will not for the next several years. in the meantime, all current international agreements, trade or otherwise, will be renegotiated, and they won’t be able to participate in the european economic community without abiding by many of the european laws that they were already subject to. at no point will they just be like, absent of international obligations. they are about to get the short end of a lot of sticks however
yeah this is totally correct lmao
also correct, though it’s not much of a surprise. can’t wait for the next independence vote
‘the uk has been governed by the european union up until now – because they don’t have their own constitution or bill of rights or anything of the sort, they’ve been dependent on the EU for guidance’
okay I don’t often have strong opinions on tumblr because lol tumblr but this is the most hilariously ignorant thing I have ever seen on my dash
has this been done yet
m8, it was a democratic vote to leave an undemocratic union, not the seizure of ‘emergency powers’ by emperor fucking palpatine
shit thanks for clearing that up I was really sure Boris Johnson was actually Jar Jar Binks
And wow how democratic. A bunch of elderly racists that don’t know how to interface with poc they can’t exploit from afar have made a decision that will have consequences they won’t have to deal with. The younger generations, however, who do need to worry about jobs and the economy, and who did not want to leave the EU, are forced to reckon with an economy that has already started to nose dive.
