Prompt 8

This week when I looked up #picturebooks on Instagram I found the first thing that caught my attention was a post of an interesting picture book called Frank was a monster who wanted to dance. This caught my attention because I thought it would have been an interesting book to read to my placement class around Halloween.

The next thing that caught my attention was a time-lapse video of someone drawing a picture. This caught my attention because it was a video and I was interested in what the video was about. This would be something I would show to class in order to show how a book is illustrated.

I feel this is a reliable way of researching picture books to read to your class to an extent. I say this because the main flaw to this kind of search is that you don’t get too much of an idea of what the book is about. Because of this, I would probably look at Google searching books rather than hashtag searching because you get a better idea of what the book is about.

Prompt 7

When I looked the #picturebooks on Tumblr, the first thing to capture my attention was what looks like the front cover of a new picture book Animal Gases. This particular post caught my attention as it says that this book is a scratch and sniff book I found this interesting because I have never heard of a scratch and sniff book.

The next post that caught my attention was a picture of Girl and a group of other creatures, who are all engrossed in the storyline of the book. This caught my attention because this used to happen to me back when I was in high school because I struggled to put down the books I read . In a way I miss that particular feeling because I have found not matter what I read now, I don’t seem to be able to get that feeling back.

Prompt 6

The video I choose to use in a front-loading lesson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders was called ‘discover the diversity of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander languages’. I choose this video because It shows 5 different languages from Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander cultures that exist in Australia. I feel primary aged students would relate to the video because it has children singing the same song but in these different languages. This would engage the students in the idea of how diverse the indigenous culture in Australia is. This would be good for frontloading as it gets the students thinking about the different types of indigenous cultures (Aboriginal and Torres strait islanders) and languages there are in Australia.

Prompt 5

On a cold night I found that I had no strength left, as I looked at my transparent reflection in the glass in silence, I wondered if my food would arrive before I died of hunger. After all this time I seemed as if nothing had really changed and the people of the world had forgotten them again. After looking at the children’s book, the first idea I have for a frontloading activity would be to have the students watch a video about people in third world countries. After this, I would get the students to create a ven diagram about the differences between the people seen in the video and their own life.
