Simon’s Rock alum on language learning
These are from candy grams on Valentine's Day!
These are from the annual Halloween Murder Mystery and our classic victim, Valerie Fanarjian.
We do an event four times a semester called Late Night Breakfast, where we open the dining hall from 9PM to 11PM and serve breakfast food! Nothing solves stress like pancakes, scrambled eggs, omelets, bacon, and cereal galore.
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA I spent the fall semester of my junior year abroad as an international student at Korea University, living in the heart of Seoul. I studied law, international policy, english literature, and Korean language while I was there. I immersed myself in the culture, explored the city, and attended numerous festivals and performances. SAINT ANDREWS, SCOTLAND I spent the spring semester of my junior year abroad on the coast of Scotland in Saint Andrews. I studied creative writing and english literature while there. I made incredible friends, attended reading and lectures, and wrote by the sea for five months.
The Senior Thesis at Simon's Rock is a huge part of the academic experience. Every senior completes an extensive project throughout the course of a year. As a way of making this process community oriented and publicly celebrated, seniors make a poster that summarizes their intended project and place them in the Student Union for the remainder of the year. Not only is this a great way for underclassmen, parents, and other visitors to see what projects the seniors are pursuing, but seniors can also look back and see how much their projects changed and grew since they began!
Final Exam for Introduction to Fashion & Styling:
Using inventory from the costume shop, assemble an outfit from each of the following decades: 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and one of your choice.
One week!
Paper Titles from Seminar
We are required to take all three sections of seminar, which cover art, history, languages, science -- “everything ever” -- from the Epic of Gilgamesh to Frederick Douglass. From this, we write papers about whatever sparks our interest. Here are one student’s papers that show the development of her thought: Writing and Thinking Workshop: Graduation Aisles of Life Seminar 1: Becoming A Fate-Master The Nature of Sacrifice & The Love Ink Theory Seminar 2: Art as Allegory: The Vehicle of History On Monstrosity & Humanity Seminar 3: Fairness & Equality: War on the Individual The Souls of Black Folk: An Exegesis The Boundaries of Sound & Silence: Information Crossing
