Wanted to try some simple animated materials in Blender and then I figured a cube made of spinning cubes stretching into infinity might look cool… and that’s what happened!

Coffee mug with trippy backdrop

As a first splash into materials and rendering with Cycles I spruced up my previous render of a coffee mug.

The mug has a white porcelain material which I found after some searching on the web and the material of the backdrop is the result of me messing around with Blender’s Node Editor with only a slight clue as to what I was doing (despite the Computer Graphics course I had some time ago... *sigh*).

So all in all editing materials for the first time with the Node Editor was kind of scary but in the end it was fun. I mean... just look at this! Is it not kind of scary?
