📚 naomi’s mother was born and raised in korea, whereas her father was born and raised in london. the pair met in london while her mother studied abroad. in the year of 1998, she was born ironically on valentine’s day. her mother was young when she had her, just started her freshmen year of college, which they remained in london, so she could finish her studies. her father graduated two years prior to her mother’s graduation and received a really good business job in new york, where they moved to the hamptons.
📚 naomi’s father was always busy at work, resulting in her mother being a stay at home mom. she was extremely strict on her growing up wanting her to be a perfect child, wanting to reflect that even though she had her at a young age, her daughter was still successful. this resulted in her mother forcing her to participate in multiple activities such as beauty pageants, ballet, soccer, and she even took on violin. she found herself extremely unhappy as a child since she didn’t really have time to be a kid.
📚 when it came to school, she passed with flying colors. her parents expect nothing less from her, anything below a B was considered unacceptable. upon entering high school, she became interested in boys. she would often have to sneak out to hang out with friends, see boyfriends and all that.
📚 sixteen year old naomi ended up getting pregnant with her boyfriend. once her mother found out, she forced her to break up with him and not inform him about the baby since they planned on giving the child up for adoption. six months later, she gave birth to a baby boy, elijah. naomi got the chance to hold her child and when she did, she knew she couldn’t let him go, so she convinced her mother to raise him, telling everyone that the child was her baby brother instead of her own son. her mother insist on adoption, however, seeing her daughter with the child, she just knew that she couldn’t do that to the child, so she agreed.
📚 naomi’s mother also decided to home school her for the remainder of her high school, so they both could stay home with the baby. by the time she graduated high school, elijah was two. college was rolling around and she got into a really good school in california for nursing. she really didn’t want to go to california, didn’t want to be miles apart from her child, but her mother insisted and she was forced to go.
📚 entering college, she had to take extracurriculars for her graduation requirement, so she took a child development class for fun. that was when she realized that her heart was set out to become a teacher, change little kids lives for the better, not on nursing. it also helped her understand her son’s development more and more. so, she switched majors and in four years she graduated with her masters. she was now twenty-two and her son was now six years old and he still thought that she was his older sister.
📚 moving back to the hamptons, she wanted to spend as much time as she could with elijah after practically missing four years of it. the thought of wanting to tell him the whole truth crossed her mind multiple times, especially, now that she's back, however, she just doesn't know when is the right time. after moving back, she did a bunch of filter jobs for a year, until she landed a teaching position. now, she’s twenty-four as a first year elementary school teacher.
