A wood. Dark. Cold. Ominous.
"Purgatory", Cas says.
I look about in alarm and back at him:
Flown away. I'm on my own.
What th—
All around, shadows lurk and growl,
Watching, circling, closing in.
I try not to panic; try to think.
My brain shouts at my limbs to bolt.
And I do.
God, I do.
As fast as I can.
Growls turn into howls and barks and sounds of horror,
Paws, claws; small and big; hot on my trail.
I sprint through this nightmarish land of abominations,
My throat burning, my mind racing.
Don't stop. Don't trip. Duck. Jump.
Fright drums hard against my ribs,
Almost turning my stomach.
Fuck, Cas— Why?
I run for I don't know how long nor how far,
Wincing from pain and strain as I push on, and on, and on,
My vigor quickly waning along with my faith in outlasting this at all.
Until, by a miraculous turn of luck,
All paws halt and fork off my tracks,
Drawn away by a distant cry.
Not glancing back, I dash towards a giant oak and climb,
My arms thankfully making up for my worn-out shanks.
I spy a spot on a high, thick branch with a good outlook
And sit cautiously, straddling it, back against bark.
Down on ground, all has grown still.
Nothing stirs or sighs.
I shut my lids for a bit to unwind, panting,
Blood pumping loud.
"Holy shit…"
By and by, I cool off and focus again to scan my surroundings.
Trunks, shrubs, snags, logs, moss, rocks, hills…
It's a wildwood alright.
Not dissimilar to that you'd find upstairs—
If you pay no mind to its charming inhabitants.
Air's thick with a familiar aroma too; organic, musty, damp;
Kind of uncanny knowing what this world actually is.
Damn, Purgatory… Talk about a vacation trip.

I would laugh about it if I wasn't in such a bind
Or if I could warp out as simply as I got in.
That is, if any soul actually can warp out of this dump…
But that's not a topic for today.
My priority is to find Cas
(And obviously last out until I do.)
"Copy that, buddy?" I murmur out to him,
Hoping his radio is on and will pick it up,
"I'm coming for you. So hold on."
