         there was nothing more kangdae wanted to do than to go home. when he first heard his boss talk about having a ‘company retreat’, he felt his body freeze. his boss was quite a character. claiming that ‘it’s not a waste of money’ and that ‘it will help everyone get closer’. he believed his boss was too hopeful, thinking that his workers ( which was only a few people, only four workers ) would get closer from a retreat.  

          the whole idea was hopeless and idiotic to kangdae. why would he want to spend his free time on a camping trip with his co-workers? if it wasn’t for the fact his boss threatened to fire him if he didn’t go, he wouldn’t be there. he remembered himself grumbling for the rest of the day, angrily making people’s orders while one of his co-workers took everyone else’s orders.

          and here he was, arms crossed, angrily walking with one of his co-workers. it just got worse every second kangdae was there. when they got to the site, his boss split everyone into groups of two to do ‘team building’. kangdae barely remembered his co-worker’s name ( which is a lie, kangdae remembered his name clearly ). 

         ‘ i just don’t understand why we have to be here. don’t you think, uh, hae...? ’

“ You’re soaked. Not really prepared for the weather, huh? ”

      ‘ a simple mistake. i forgot to check the weather i guess. ’ a lie, he did check the weather. in fact, he double checked it the night before. and it said that it would be sunny all day. and when he left his dorm, it was sunny for the most part. but halfway through his trip, the rain started to pour. he cursed the weatherperson for telling him lies, and asking himself how a weatherperson can get the weather wrong considering it was their job. 

       ‘ now can i please have a towel? ’

“ You’re a bit… too much for this. ”

       ‘ too much for what? ’his tone feigned innocence, knowing exactly what the other was talking about, ‘ should i be apologizing to you? ’ which, of course, would never happen. why? because kangdae never apologizes. unless it’s to his mother, because he wouldn’t be able to bare with the guilt if he didn’t. but to anyone else? he would never. 

      ‘ i don’t even think you can be too much for this. ’

“Looks like it’s going to rain. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella.”

        ‘ last time i checked you weren’t my mom, ’ he looked at the other male, a frown on his face. his frown then turned into a unemotional expression, ‘ but fine. thank you for telling me, i guess. ’ he would never admit that someone was actually helping him for once, and he always wanted to be right.

        ‘ i was just about to check the weather, though. ’ ( no he wasn’t ).

“ Don’t you think it’s a bit too early for Christmas jam? ”

      ‘ yeah but this is all my mom, if you know what i mean, ’ his mom was good at preparing ahead of time, and christmas was the one holiday that she prepared a month ahead for. the moment halloween ended, his mother was definitely starting to plan for christmas, but only now made him go out to buy some stuff. especially since she knew he might not come home for the holidays. 

       ‘ but christmas is at least a holiday that’s nice to celebrate, you know? ’

“ Let’s just watch It again. ”

     he gasped dramatically, ‘ is that... attitude i hear? ’ he looked over at her, hands on his hips. his tongue sticking out to lick his lips, shaking his head at the female, ‘ i told you, we’re not going to, and that’s it. ’ he crossed his arms over his chest, a frown on his face, ‘ let’s watch another movie, okay? ’ breaking his frown, he gave her a small smile.

      ‘ i’ll let you choose this time. ’

      ‘ oh i definitely think so, ’ he nodded his head, ‘ but if this makes your life more difficult, i don’t really care, ’ he gave the other male a smile, a mischievous one. he pointed to another big order on the menu from the ice cream parlor, looking at ahin expectantly. why was kangdae ordering ice cream for a christmas party? he honestly didn’t have any reason except to make ahin a little busier.

       ‘ so i want this because... it’d be perfect for the christmas party i might throw. ’

“ Don’t exaggerate; I swear you’re really hyperbolic. ”

       ‘ i am not hyperbolic, ’ he stated, ‘ c’mon i just said one thing. i can’t believe you thought it was exaggerating, it seems like you’re the hyperbolic one here. ’ he didn’t feel like he was over exaggerating the statement he had said before. in fact, he felt more like the other person was exaggerating about him exaggerating. 

       ‘ yah, if i were you i wouldn’t exaggerate so much. ’

       ‘ are you really going to wear that? ’ kangdae gave the other male a look of disgust. the other male’s outfit was something that he, frankly couldn’t look at for any longer. his roommate, noeul, and him had only talked about once or twice, and honestly, kangdae enjoyed some of the peace of not having to talk to your roommate for a small while, but he couldn’t help himself with this one. he considered himself as helping noeul with a tragic fashion choice. 

       ‘ i don’t think you should go out wearing that, ’ he eyed the male up and down, ‘ the colors don’t match and the shoes? ’ he took another look at the shoes that the male was wearing, ‘ not my favorite. ’ kangdae might not have looked it, but when he was younger, all he did was follow fashion trends and wear some of the most popular and famous brands. the people in his school knew him as a fashion icon. 

        which was definitely a different story for college. kangdae could barely afford the same clothes he wore years ago because his parents refused to buy something as simple as his clothing. and after weeks of trying to convince them to let him buy the best clothing, he quietly, but angrily, accepted his parents’ decision. and now, he wore something simple every day. jeans, sneakers, a t-shirt, and a flannel on top. it was simple, but he thought it looked good together and on him. 

      ‘ so you should change. now. you’re welcome, ’ he stated before turning his back to noeul and started working on homework.

“ I’m Thor! I’m Thor! Wait, this isn’t Halloween anymore. ”

        ‘ thor is so lame, ’ he stated, giving jiwoon a disgusted look on his face. sure, marvel was a franchise that kangdae had enjoyed for most of his childhood. especially iron man. but he never saw the real need for thor in the story. sure, he seemed cool because he was an actual god compared to all the other characters. but kangdae found himself feeling bored whenever he tried to read his part of the comics. 

        ‘ next year you should go as iron man. ’

      ‘ i guess that’s kind of true, ’ he’ll never admit hyunwoo was right, ‘ but… ’ he paused, thinking about how to counter the other male’s claim. he would never admit that the other was right. nothing against him, just... pride, he guessed. he didn’t feel particularly guilty about acting like that, and even if he did, he did it anyway.

       he rolled his eyes at the other male, turning his back to him, ‘ i mean… of course, why not? ’ what kind of question was that? sure, he had about a month until christmas, but he did like having things done early. he didn’t have to worry about it later on. he didn’t have to worry about crowds. if there was one thing he really disliked, it was having to deal with crowds. and he expected marius to know all of that. 

       he looked back at the male, ‘ so… are you coming or not? ’

       if there was one thing that kangdae would never admit, it was needing help. actually, he would never admit a lot of things, but not needing help was definitely at the top of the list. to him, asking for help is a sort of... weakness. it shows that you aren’t strong, or smart, enough to do something yourself. and he believed that anyone who believed that helping is a good thing, well... he’d call you crazy. 

       so why was he standing in front of his english teacher’s room, hand frozen on the doorknob. it wasn’t too late to just turn back. who needed english anyway? why should he even care? 

      there were many reasons why. not just so he doesn’t fail out of school, but because he actually wanted to learn english. so he had to suck it up. he took a deep breath, turning the knob, pushing the door open. he didn’t even bother to check if his teacher was there, he just grabbed a chair, and pulled it up to the desk in the front. 

      he looked up at his teacher, giving him a small, a little forced, smile. he took out his english homework that his teacher had given him, and he started to work on it, keeping his mouth shut. he hoped his teacher understood that he needed help.

cries i’m pretty late with this intro,,,, but hi everyone !! my name is kelly and i am the person behind kangdae !! a lil bit about him is that he’s kind of a hardass and likes to be alone over going out. his parents own a famous restaurant in seoul that he was supposed to take over, but his brother ended up taking that position, and he’s vvvvv bitter about it ( he blames it all on his brother ). he decided to do nursing because he wasn’t necessarily bad at it, and figured he might as well make his parents somewhat happy if he can’t take over the restaurant. he’s really clueless about most common things because he’s always been spoiled when he was younger and doesn’t know how to take no for an answer. he works as a barista as well ( and i hope ur muses never drink a coffee he makes ) ! i’m still working on my pages for him and will hopefully get them done next weekend, but if you want to plot hmu on here or twitter ( @kihyoonies ) or discord ( kelly#6180 ) ! or if you like this post, i’ll msg you sometime tonight or tomorrow !
