𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 - 𝗲𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 two
this chapter will include: kissing, making out, cursing, teasing, groping, cheating (as kenzie would describe it) angst, crying, mentions of sex, one mention of vomit, not shipping idols!! this is all fiction
episode one
JAKE:
Once I woke up, I saw all the guys making breakfast for the girls so I thought I'd try to make some for Yunjin. Currently, she was upstairs getting ready with the rest of the girls so I thought I could buy myself some time.
I walked in the kitchen and greeted Heeseung. I looked at the pancake instructions and realized I had no idea what I was doing.
"Fuck" I muttered to myself quietly. Maybe I'll just follow whatever Jay is doing.
By the end of watching over Jay, my pancakes looked a fucking mess. There's no way I could serve this to her.
"Shit I'll just cover it with strawberries" I thought to myself as i scrambled strawberries all over my soggy pancakes.
Sunghoon and Jay walked past me with their plates laughing.
"No way you'll actually give that shit to her" Jay said as he walked up the stairs. Soon quickly after, Yunjin came down the stairs and walked over to the deck. I put my head in my hands before I gave her a fake smile and walked over with the two plates.
"How'd you sleep?" I say as I kiss her cheek and sit down next to her. She begins talking about her night and about the girls until she finally bites down into the somewhat solid pancake.
I clench my teeth until she spits it out and stands up abruptly.
"Jake is this fucking raw?!" She screams out. I immediately get to apologizing and try to calm her down until she just walks away and goes back towards the bedroom.
I pick up the plate and throw away the remainder of chewed up pancakes and strawberries. What the fuck was I thinking giving this to her. It actually looks like vomit.
"Guess she wasn't hungry?" Ni-ki says as he cleans off the syrup from the plates in the sink.
"Yeah I guess not" I say sighing as I rest my arms on the counter.
"Maybe I should cook for her next time" Ni-ki says under his breath.
"The fuck is that insinuating?" I say as I lean up to look him in the face.
"Nothing man, you're just a bad cook" Ni-ki says as he smirks and walks back to the bedrooms.
Is Ni-ki gonna pull Yunjin for a chat?
WONYOUNG:
As I'm sitting upstairs with the girls eating the breakfast Sunghoon cooked. Yunjin comes running back in looking in distress.
"Jake literally just fucked up breakfast so bad" She yells, you can hear the frustration in her voice.
"What did he do?" Y/n asks as she walks over to Yunjin trying to get her to sit down and be calm before they hear her yelling.
"He gave me raw pancakes." She said. Honestly you would think he stabbed her with the way she was acting. The girls tried to calm her down but I honestly wasn't in the mood for the drama.
After finishing my makeup and putting on my baby pink swimsuit. I thought to pull Jake for a chat.
I walked downstairs and greeted Sunghoon once more before I made my way over to Jake.
"Jake can I pull you for a chat over in soul ties?" I say giving him a simple smile.
"Yeah of course." Jake says as I take his hand and he quickly follows me.
I can see Sunghoon from the corner of my eyes with his jaw dropped looking completely confused. But again, I gotta keep my options open.
"So what happened with Yunjin earlier?" I ask as I cross my legs and lean back.
Jake begins going on and on about the pancakes and how he thinks she's overreacting.
"I think she's overreacting too." I cut Jake off and laugh.
His face lights up as I agree with him.
"So would you say you and Sunghoon are like closed off?" Jake asks with a glimmer in his eyes.
"No, I mean he seems like a great guy but I'm not gonna just close off on the first day. We did have a good night together though." I say as I look Jake in the eyes, giving him a soft smile.
"Yeah I don't know, I kind of want to y'know explore my options too." Jake says as he looks down at his feet.
SUNGHOON:
I watch as Wonyoung pulls Jake for a chat right infront of my face.
"Unfucking believable" I say as I follow them both with my eyes.
Jungwon sucks in his teeth, "That's cold" He says as he pats my shoulder. Jungwon soon walks over and pulls Winter for a chat.
I can't hear much but I for sure thought him and Kazuha were closed off considering how much they held and kissed each other last night. That shit kept me up all night.
Wonyoung and I haven't kissed since the challenge from last night. I begin to wonder if she's actually into me or if she only picked me because the other girls took someone she wanted.
I sigh and walk over to Heeseung.
"Fuck man, I think Wonyoung might be into Jake." I say as I sit down next to him.
"Really? I mean or maybe she's just exploring her options." Heeseung says as he closes his book. I rub my hand over my face as I watch Wonyoung and Jake laugh together.
"Yeah I guess I have to explore mine too." I mutter quietly.
Y/n walks over and Heeseung welcomes her on his lap. I think to myself that maybe I'll pull her for a chat. Another part of me thinks about how Heeseung is my friend.
But this isn't friendship island.
As we all three sit talking. Wonyoung walks past.
"Wonyoung wait!" I yell out. She turns and faces me.
"Can we talk please" I ask her as I stand up and get ready to follow her.
"Um not right now." She says as she walks towards Rei, leaving me looking stupid.
"Jesus" Y/n says as she looks down and turns her attention away from us.
Wonyoung quickly retreats to the glam room as I watch with a pitiful look on my face.
"Maybe she's just exploring her options man. Don't stress on it. Go explore your options as well." Heeseung says patting my shoulder.
"I just don't understand why she wouldn't run it by me first. But whatever, maybe i'll go pull Kazuha." I reply
I thought about pulling her really, but I only said it to please Heeseung and Y/n. I don't wanna run Wonyoung any farther than she is now.
Y/N:
Eventually, Minju walks in and tells us it is time for a recoupling to see if we want to stay in our couples. I walk ahead and stand on the green button, hoping Heeseung is also standing on it too.
Surprisingly, Wonyoung stands on green. I watch Yunjin next to me stand on red, seems like she's very strict about her program. Kazuha stands on green, Winter on red, Rei on red, and Tzuyu on green.
Soon, Two bombshells walked in. One a girl with a bright smile and long dark hair. The guy, a tall lean boy with brown hair.
Me and the girls jaw dropped.
"What the fuck??" Kazuha mouths to me.
He walks over and kisses Winter first and then walks over to Rei. As he takes them and walks past me, he winks.
I look over at Kazuha and smile as she is still in shock from the scene that just unfolded.
RIKI:
I go and stand on the red dot. I feel like me and Rei's connection doesn't really thrive. Plus, I have my eyes on some other girls.
Right after me and the guys all make our decisions. Two bombshells walks in, I can hear him kissing Rei from behind the door. I roll my eyes and look down at my feet.
The bombshell goes and kisses Heeseung and Jake. They soon quickly follow her.
Minju announces for us to open our doors. I open mine to see no one is standing there. She tells me to go take my seat at the fire pit.
"Jungwon, there is also no one at your door. Please have a seat at the fire pit." Minju says. I see Jungwon also roll his eyes as he takes a seat next to me. I playfully slap his shoulder and laugh.
Sunoo and Tzuyu decided to stay in a couple. Sunghoon and Wonyoung surprisingly stay as he couldn't stop complaining while all the guys were getting ready. Yunjin opens the door and immediately rolls her eyes also.
"Fuck this" She mumbles as she walks and takes a seat next to Jungwon.
Jay kisses Kazuha as he lifts her and spins him around. I look at Sunghoon and burst into laughter. Jay and Kazuha take a seat also.
Y/n finally opens her door. I did have my eye on her for a while and Heeseung isn't there. She giggles it off and takes her seat next to Kazuha.
"It's okay babe" Kazuha whispers to her as she kisses the top of her head.
"So islanders, your couples will be back tomorrow night as they will be spending the night with the new bombshells." Everyone is shocked and gasps as we all look around.
But honestly I only have one thought in my mind.
Y/n.

SUNGHOON POV
i locked my phone and tossed it to the side, jaw tightening slightly at the last message niki sent sitting in my head.
‘did you dream about her?’
i sighed, getting up from my bed, the room was silent except for the hum of my alarm clock and the distant noise coming from outside of my dorm.
i ran my fingers through my hair and stood.
today mattered.
-
i tied the laces of my shoes tighter than necessary, like pressure alone could keep everything in place.
the mirror in front of me didn’t say anything useful. it never did.
just me, half dressed routine, black hoodie, training joggers, hair still damp from the shower, with a pair of black glasses.
normal, controlled. the kind of normal that only exists right before something goes wrong.
today mattered.
i grabbed my phone off the dresser and checked once.
no new messages.
good.
i didn’t need noise right now. i needed execution.
the energy outside my dorm was alive. when i stepped out, footsteps echoed, the usual chaos of campus that didn’t know it was standing on a deadline.
i kept walking anyway, hands in my pocket, like i wasn’t carrying the entire season in my head.
by the time i reached the arena locker room, i could hear them before i saw them.
niki was the first one to spot me.
“yo,” he called out, leaning back against the bench, stretched arms like he owned the place. “captain’s finally awake.”
i didn’t respond immediately. just dropped my bag beside my locker and started unzipping.
“dont start,” i said.
he grinned anyway. “start what? i didn’t say anything.”
“you were thinking it.”
that got a few laughs from the others.
jake was taping his wrists across the room, glancing up with that same annoying curiosity he always had when he knew something was going on.
“you sure you heard sunghoon in his sleep niki? bro looks like he hasn’t slept.”
“i swear i did! he was like—“
“i didn’t sleep well.” i said simply.
that shut him up for half a second.
jungwon tilted his head, watching me like i was something mildly intertaning.
“still thinking about her?”
the room shifted just slightly. not enough to stop moving, but enough to feel it.
i paused with my gloves in my hands.
then continued putting them on.
“no,” i said.
it came out too fast.
that alone was enough for them to laugh again.
“sure.” niki muttered under his breath, but he didn’t push it any further.
i closed my locker harder than necessary.
metal echoed.
“focus,” i said, more to myself than them. “we have a lot to focus on today.”
that actually pulled the energy back where it needed to be. practice talk. drills. timing. setup. real things. things that i could control.
heeseung stood from the bench, rolling his shoulders. “we’re good on supplies tonight?”
“check the list.” i said, grabbing my stick. “lights, speakers, ice cubes. tables everything gets delivered at 3.”
“and security?” sunoo asked.
i finally look up.
that part mattered more than anything.
“handled.” i said.
it wasn’t a lie. not exactly. just not fully explained.
because security wasn’t the problem. the problem was approval. control. the person sitting behind the table thinking she could decide what this team deserves.
i shut that thought down.
not today.
“listen up,” i said, louder now.
the room went quiet.
i stepped forward, stick resting against the floor.
“this isn’t just an ‘end-of-season’ thing. we’re not doing this for fun.”
no one interrupted. i could feel them listening now.
“if this works, we’re fine next year. if it doesn’t, we don’t get another chance to fix it.”
that part landed. niki stopped smiling.
i exhaled once, then straightened.
“so we do right. no mistakes. no delays. no excuses.”
a beat of silence.
then jay and jake nodded, both saying “got it,” in unison.
the others followed after that, ome by one the energy started shifting into something sharper. more focused. less playful.
good. that was better.
i slung my stuck over my shoulder and headed for the door, teammates following behind me.
as we walked out, niki caught up beside me, lowering his voice just enough that only i could hear.
“she’s gonna show up y’know.”
i didn’t look at him.
“she has to,” i muttered.
he hummed like that wasn’t the answer he meant.
but i didn’t say anything else.
because the second i did , i might’ve admitted to already planning it.
-
the venue looked different in the daylight.
less like a party. more like a problem that needed solving.
i stepped out the car last, letting the door shut behind me while the rest of my team alreadt started pulling equipment out the trunk.
niki was the first to break silence.
“bro, this place is actually kinda big.” he said, looking up at the building like he was seeing the scale of it for the first time.
“yeah,” i said. “that’s the point.”
he huffed a laugh, but didn’t argue. we moved in without wasting time. no music, no chaos.
yet.
just footsteps and boxes and the sound of stuff getting dragged in and prepped.
this wasn’t the part people cared about.
but it mattered more than anything.
because this was where mistakes happened.
inside, the lighting was still cold and empty, tge kind of space that didn’t feel alive until it’s forced to.
heeseung was checking the sound system already. jay was arguing with someone about cable placement. sunoo was labeling supply crates like it was an exam.
normal. controlled. functional.
i liked it better when things were controlled.
“everything’s on schedule,” jake called out, glancing at his phone. “deliveries hit in an hour. we’re ahead.”
“stay ahead.” i demanded.
nobody questioned it.
i crossed the floor slowly, scanning everything. something about this space made it feel louder than it was.
like it was already waiting for something to go wrong.
niki appeared beside me again, hands in his pockets this time.
“you know you’re gonna hate this right?,”
i didn’t look at him.
“she doesn’t have to like it,” i said. “she just has to show up.”
he made a sound like he was thinking about saying more.
then didn’t.
a beat passed.
then—
“she’s coming.”
a voice came from behind us.
sunoo.
he was holding his phone, screen still lit.
i turn around slowly.
“what do you mean, ‘she’s coming’?
sunoo hesitated for a half a second too long before answering.
“compliance confirmed it. student council assigned supervision.”
silence hit the room after that.
not loud. not dramatic. just immediate.
like someone had drew a line across everything we had done.
niki let out a low whistle. “oh.”
i didn’t move.
didn’t ask why she was assigned. i didnt need to.
because i already knew what it meant.
if she was here officially, she couldn’t shut it down halfway through.
which meant… she was stuck watching it happen.
i exhaled slowly through my nose.
“good,” i said.
jay looked over at me. “good?”
i nodded once.
“then everything goes exactly as planned.”
-
nothing went exactly as planned.
the first guest started arriving an hour later. by six, the venue looked completely different.
music echoed through the building. conversations overlapped. people’s moved from room to room carrying drinks and disposable cameras like final season didn’t exist.
i should’ve been paying attention to any of that. instead, i kept checking the entrance.
once. twice. then enough times that i stopped counting.
which was exactly why i missed her the first time.
“she’s here.”
niki’s voice came somewhere beside me.
i looked up.
clipboard tucked against her side. student council badge clipped neatly to the front of her blazer. her eyes scanned the room the way mines had all afternoon. counting exits, noticing details, looking for something that could go wrong.
she hadn’t seen me yet.
i saw her first.
“you gonna keep staring or…?” niki questions.
“i’m making sure she’s doing her job.” i said immediately.
niki gets quiet for a second.
then he smirks. “right.”
i hate it when he does that.
i looked away first. there were more important things to pay attention to.
guests were still coming in through the front entrance, the music had gotten louder. somewhere across the room, jay was arguing with the DJ over the volume.
normal.
exactly what i wanted.
i made it three steps before i heard her.
“park.” she called.
i kept walking.
“park sunghoon.”
i stopped. slowly, i looked over my shoulder. she was standing exactly where i’d left her. clipboard still tucked against her side.
“you plan on ignoring me all night?” she questions.
“i was hoping.”
she huffed, glancing towards the drink station.
“those extension cords need to be taped down.”
i followed her gaze.
“they’re fine.”
“theyre a tripping hazard.”
“theyre against the wall.”
“they’re still a tripping hazard.
i sighed.
“you came here to start problems, didn’t you?”
“i came here because your team has a history of creating them.”
i narrowed my eyes slightly, clearing my throat.
“you always assume the worst about us.”
she met my eyes, her stare intense.
“i’ve never been given a reason not to.”
my jaw tightened. i hope she hadn’t caught it.
i change the subject. “walk with me.”
she frowned. “that wasn’t a request,” she says golding her arms across her chest.
“it wasn’t”
she stared at me for another second, waiting for an explanation.
instead, i turned toward the back hallway.
a moment later, i hear footsteps behind me. i fought the urge to smile.
the music faded the farther we walked from the main floor. it was quieter back here. just muffled bass bleeding through the walls and the occasional laughter echoing from somewhere down the hall.
she uncapped her pen.
“you know i’m still working.”
“i figured.”
“so if i find something wrong…”
“you’ll right me up.” i sighed.
her pen paused over the clipboard.
“… you’re taking this surprisingly well.”
“i don’t really have a choice.” she glances at me.
“that’s new.”
i laughed under my breath.
“you think i’m impossible?” i questioned.
“i think you’re exhausting.”
“i’ll take that over boring.”
“you don’t get to choose.”
we made it towards the emergency exit. she immediately stepped past me, checking the crash bar before pushing the door open.
she scribbled something on her board.
“exit’s clear.”
“i told you.”
“you also told me those extension cords werent a tripping hazard.”
“they’re not..?”
“but they literally are.” she argues.
“they’re taped down now.”
“that’s because i told you to.”
i looked at her.
“…you always need the last word?”
she didn’t even hesitate.
“yes.”
i shook my head, smiling despite myself. we continued down the hallway until she suddenly stopped.
my shoulder nearly bumps into hers. “what?”
she wasn’t looking at me anymore.
she was staring at the row of sponsor banners hanging along the wall. each one had a qr code printed beneath it.
below them sat two clear donation boxes. half full.
her eyebrows pull together.
“…these werent in the proposal?”
“they weren’t.” i said.
she looked over. “what are they for?”
i leaned against the wall.
“the teams budget.”
silence. she looked back at the banners.
“the school cut it?”
i nodded once. “they said if we couldn’t prove community support, we’d probably lose next season.”
she didn’t say anything.
“so this party…”
“it isn’t just a party.” the words left my mouth before i could stop it.
“it’s the only fundraiser we’re hosting before the budgeting meeting.”
her eyes lingered on the donation boxes.
“you couldn’t said that.”
i let out a quiet laugh.
“you wouldve approved it?”
she didn’t answer, because we both knew she wouldn’t have. after a long moment, she sighed.
“i denied it because i thought it would end the way these things usually do.”
“what way is that?” i questioned. she looked at me.
“they last hockey fundraiser i supervised ended with broken windows, three ambulances, and campus police.”
i blinked. “that wasn’t us…”
“i know.”
“then why punish us for it?” i scoffed.
her expression softened just enough to notice.
“i’m not punishing you.”
she looked around the venue.
“i’m trying to make sure nobody gets hurt.”
for the first time all night. i beleive her.
neither of us spoke, the music downstairs carried through the walls in soft waves.
she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before looking back at her clipboard.
“so far…” she clicked her pen.
“…youve exceeded my expectations.”
i raised an eyebrow. “is that a compliment?”
“don’t get used to it.”
a smile naturally pulled at the corner of my mouth.
she noticed.
“what?”
“nothing.”
“…you’re smiling.”
“i am not.”
“you literally are.”
i looked away.
“i think you’re imagining things.”
she stepped closer without realizing it.
“no…” she tilted her head. “i’m pretty sure that’s a smile…”
she was close enough to now i could see the hallway lights reflecting in her eyes.
neither of us moved and neither of us said anything. for the first time since we’d met…
there wasn’t an argument waiting between us. just silence.
comfortable enough that neither one of us rushed to break it.
until—
“HOON!”
jake’s voice echoed from somewhere downstairs.
“there you are! we need you!”
the moment shattered. she took a step back first, i cleared my throat.
“…duty calls.”
she nodded once, already looking back at her clipboard.
“go.”
i walked away. but halfway through the hallway–i caught myself smiling again.
by the time i made it back downstairs, the place was packed.
the fundraiser was working.
students crowded around the donation table. someone was buying raffle tickets. the merch table we’d spend two hours setting up that afternoon had a line.
this was good.
“captain!”
jake waved me over from across the room.
“we’re almost out of the first box of shirts.”
i looked towards the table and half the inventory was gone.
i feel like we might actually pull this off.
then i saw her again.
she was standing near the donation table now, watching the students scan the qr codes taped besides it.
she wasn’t writing anything… she was just watching.
sunoo followed my line of sight. “i think she gets it now.”
i didn’t answer because i wasn’t looking at the fundraiser anymore. i was looking at her.
and fod the first time since we’d met. she didn’t look like she wanted to shut us down.
“captain!” jake’s voice pulled me back. “we hit five grand!”
i blinked.
“what?”
he turned the table towards me, the donation total. five thousand, one hundred and twenty three dollars.
for a second nobody said anything.
then niki yelled. then the whole room erupted.
someone turned the music louder. jay threw an arm around heeseung’s shoulder sloppily. even sunoo smiled, shaking his head as more notifications rolled across the screen.
we weren’t just there yet. but we were close.
i looked up automatically.
she was gone.
my smile disappeared.
“you looking for somebody?” jungwon asked.
“no.”
he gave me the look.
“…compliance.”
he laughed. “sure.”
i ignored him and started toward the front entrance. she wasn’t by the donation table and she wasn’t checking exits.
then i heard voices.
“…we’re approaching occupancy.”
campus security.
i rounded the corner. she stood between the entrance and the officer, clipboard tucked beneath her arm.
“we’re still under maximum capacity.”
“barely.” the officer spat.
“barely still counts.” she defends.
“if more people come in–“
“then we’ll stop letting people in.”
the officer hesitated. she continued before they could answer.
“there hasn’t been any incidents, violations, or injuries,” she pauses. “the event is operating within policy.”
i slightly frowned. she was defending us.
the police officer looked around one last time before nodding.
“fine.”
he walked away.
she lets out a slow breath, rubbing the bridge of her nose.
“you know…” i said. “i don’t think you saved this party.”
she turned around so fast i almost laughed.
“i wasn’t saving your party.”
“no?”
“i was enforcing policy.”
i smiled.
“sounds familiar.”
she rolled her eyes. “don’t start.”
“i wasn’t going to.” i put my arms up in defense.
“…liar.”
“maybe…”
for a second, neither of us spoke. the w music echoed through the entrance every time the doors opened.
students laughing as they walked past us. she looked back towards the venue.
“you were right.”
that caught me off guard. “about what?”
“it wasn’t just a party.”
i didn’t answer and she sighed.
“i should’ve listened.”
i shook my head. “i shouldve explained it.”
she looked at me.
“you are really impossible.”
i laughed.
“and you’re still exhausting.”
a smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
“walk with me.”
this time…
it sounded different
she noticed it too.
“that was a request.”
“it was”
she stared at me for a second before shaking her head.
“i cant believe i’m saying yes.”
we stepped outside.
the night air was colder than i expected. the beats became distant behind us.
“i’ve been trying to figure you out,” i admitted.
she looked over.
“any luck?”
“not really.”
she laughed.
a real one.
“i thought you hated me.” i say.
“i thought you hated me.” she repeats.
“i did.”
she stopped walking.
“past tense?”
i smiled.
“i’ll let you know tomorrow.”
she rolled her eyes.
“you are unbelievable.”
“so i’ve been told.” i smile.
she shook her head, laughing again.
then she looked at me. like, really looked at me.
“i misjudged you.” she admitted.
“you definitely did.”
“don’t ruin the moment.” she whispered yelled.
“i’m trying not to.”
silence settled between us. neither of us moved.
“you know…” she said quietly. “i still think you’re a headache.
“i know.” i answer.
“but..”
she smiled. “i don’t think you’re the problem anymore.
i don’t remember who closed the distance first. maybe it was me, maybe it was both of us.
my hands found her waist almost instantly, careful enough that i could’ve let go at any second.
she looked at me once.
like she was giving me every chance to step away. i didn’t and neither did she.
our lips met. slow. tentative.
that kind of kiss that asked more questions than it answered.
i pull her closer towards me, her warmth shadowing over my coldness and her hands are steadily on my face as she deepens the kiss, my tongue playing with hers before she pulled away.
i blinked. “that wasn’t very professional.”
she laughs.
“it really wasn’t…” she says in between laughs.
“i cant believe that happened.” i blurt.
she looked everywhere but at me.
“you’re still a liability.”
i let out a quiet laugh.
“and you’re still exhausting.”
she rolled her eyes, but there wasn’t much conviction behind it this time.”
“i have to finish my inspection.
“and i have a fundraiser to run.”
“…right.”
“…right.” i mimicked.
neither of us moved. she laughed quietly, shaking her head.
“we’re pretending that didn’t happen.”
i smiled.
“if that’s what helps you sleep tonight.” i joked.
“it will.”
“…liar.”
“…maybe.” she chuckles.
she held my gaze for another second, then turned around.
she made exactly four steps before stopping. without looking back, she spoke.
“congratulations.”
“for what?”
“the fundraiser…”
a beat.
“…you earned it.”
then she kept walking.
i watched until she disappeared back into the crowd.
niki appeared beside me. “you look…different?”
“i do?”
“yeah.”
“how?”
he squinted at me. “…annoyingly happy.”
i shook my head.
“no idea what you’re talking about.”
he snorted. “sure.”
he walked off before i could answer. i looked back towards the crowd one last time.
somewhere inside all of those people… she was pretending nothing had happened.”
the funny part was…
so was i.
neither of us was very good at pretending.

READER POV
the meeting was supposed to start 15 minutes ago.
you tapped your pen against the attendance sheet sheet, trying not to stare at the empty chair at the end of the table.
around you, student council members exchanged tired looks.
nobody said it. no one had to.
you all knew who was missing.
right on cue, the conference room door swung open. a hockey bag hit the floor first, then came its owner.
“you’re 15 minutes late.”
one of his eyebrows lifted.
“only 15?”
a few people sighed. someone muttered, “here we go again.”
because somehow ever meeting involving park sunghoon always ended the exact same way.
you set your pen down.
“the meeting started at 4.”
“and it’s 4:15.”
“congratulations,” you exclaimed sarcastically. “you can read a clock.”
a chuckle escaped from somewhere across the table.
sunghoons eyes flickered towards you.
“you know,” sunghoon leaned back in his chair. “most people start with a good afternoon.”
“and most people don’t make twenty other people wait for them.”
“and yet,” he paused. “you’re all here.”
a few heads lowered towards their laptops.
not because they were working, but because nobody wanted to get caught watching.
you inhaled slowly.
“can we start the meeting now?”
“you were waiting for me?”
“unfortunately.”
another laugh escaped from somewhere down the table.
you cleared your throat.
“now that everyone’s finally here, let’s begin.”
a few pages shuffled from around the room.
“the hockey team’s request for an end–of–season celebration.”
a collective groan in unison.
across from you, sunghoon smiled.
“i havent said anyrhing yet.”
“that’s the concerning part.” somebody murmured.
“the request exceeds campus occupancy limits.”
“barely,” sunghoon scoffed.
“by 87 people.”
“you’re very good at counting,”
you ignored him.
“next,” you flipped the page on your tablet.
“the request included extended venue access, outside vendors, and—“
you paused. your eyes narrowing slightly.
“live music.”
a few people immediately straightened in their seats.
that got attention.
you continued.
“for a campus-wide-end-of-season celebration hosted by the hockey team.” silence shifted in the room.
not surprised, expected.
across from you, sunghoon leaned forward like he’d been waiting for that exact moment.”
“so we’re calling jt a party now?”
“we’re calling it a violation risk assessment.”
a low laugh came from the table. you didn’t look up.
“this request exceeds occupancy limits, security clearance standards, and alcohol supervision protocols—“
“you said alcohol?” someone muttered.
you stopped. slowly looking up.
“did i say alcohol?”
sunghoons mouth twitched.
you didn’t not say it.”
your grip tightened around the tablet.
“it’s denied.”
the room reacted instantly. a few sighs, a few protests.
sunghoon, though…
he just tilted his head.
“you didn’t even consider it.”
“i did.”
“no, you didn’t.” he rebuttals.
a pause. then quieter.
“you read ‘hockey team’ and decided.”
that landed a little heavier. you finally looked at him properly.
“i read ‘liability’.”
silence again. but different this time. sharper.
sunghoon leaned back in his chair. smile still there—just thinner now.”
“funny.”
“what is?”
“you act like you wouldnt be there.”
that changed the room. not loud, just different. you blinked once.
“excuse me?”
“at the party.” he says it like it was already decided.
“you’ll be there.”
“no, i won’t.”
sunghoon shrugged slightly.
“we’ll see.”
the room clears faster than usual after that. nobody stayed to enjoy the after math.
smart.
chairs scrapped against the floors, papers were being gathered with soft exits. no eye contact.
until it was you and him.
sunghoon was standing his chair. not leaving, not sitting, just there.
like he didn’t know which one would make it worse. you didn’t look up from your notes.
“meetings over.” he delivers.
“yeah.”
“are you done?” your pen stopped.
sunghoon finally picks up his bag, but he didn’t move yet.
“you really think i’m just trying to throw a party?”
you held his gaze.
“i don’t think you understand the consequences.”
that hit something. his expression tightened— just barely. then he nodded once.
“right.”
and walked out.
the door clicked shut behind the sunghoon. your breathing static and your thoughts running in circles.
silence settled fast after that interaction. you were organizing the papers ecen rhiugh you didn’t need to.”
anything to keep your hands busy.
“you’re mad.” a voice comes from the door.
a voice very familiar.
you didn’t look up. “i’m not mad sooha.”
“you’re aggressively not mad.”
that made you pause slightly.
sooha shifted in her stance, fidgeting with her laptop.
“about the party.”
you finally glanced at her.
“there is no party.”
sooha winced.
small. guilty.
that already told you everything.
“sooha.”
she sighed. “okay—before you say anything, i need you to know i didn’t choose this.”
your stomach drooped a little.
“choose what?”
she hesitated.
you stared at her. “explain.”
sooha opened her laptop slowly like it might protect her from your reaction.
“they qualify under the off campus-campus clause”
silence.
then.
“no they don’t.”
“they do…”
“sooha.”
she flinched at your tone. “i checked it three times.”
your grip tightened on the edge of the table.
“so what— you’re telling me i just wasted an hour arguing for nothing?”
“no—“
“because i denied it.”
sooha looked down. quieter now.
“you denied it for campus use.”
that made you stop. she continued carefully.
“they moved it to off campus.”
your breath slowed.
“when…”
sooha hesitated too long.
“…after the meeting.” she swallows slowly.
of course they did. sunghoon didn’t argue, he just adapted.
you let out a short laugh, but there was nothing funny in it.
“so it’s happening?”
sooha didn’t answer immediately. that was the answer, she swallowed.
“i’m sorry.”
a pause, then softer.
“and… you’re still required to be present.”
your head lifted slowly.
“excuse. me.”
“compliance supervision,”. her voice cracking.
“you have to over see it.” you demanded.
silence again, heavier this time.
sooha added quickly “it’s just procedural. i tried to— i really tried—“
you stood up. chair scrapping against the floor slightly.
“so let me get this straight.” your voice was calm.
too calm.
“i denied it, they ignored it, and now i have to babysit it?”
sooha didn’t speak.
you grabbed your bag.
“tell me again why i’m in student council.”
once you left the student council building, the campus felt obnoxiously normal.
students crossed the quad carrying coffees. a group sat beneath a tree studying for their finals. somebody laughed somewhere off to your left.
meanwhile, your entire afternoon had just been ruined.
you adjusted the stawp of your bag and continued down the walkway.
the party was happening.
not only was it happened, but somehow you had to attend it.
you hated loopholes. you hated student organizations.
and right now, you especially hated hockey players. a loud cheer erupted from somewhere ahead.
you stopped.
there was a crowd gathered near the student center. of course there was, you already know what you were about to see before you reached it.
a large black banner stretched across the front entrance.
END OF SEASON.
HOCKEY HOUSE.
APRIL 12TH.
your eye twitched.
“absolutely not.” you muttered.
a familiar voice drifted from somewhere above.
“that’s a weird way to say congratulations.”
you looked up.
park sunghoon was standing on a ladder.
your day somehow got worse.
“what are you doing?”
“hanging a banner.” his hand gestures over the black poster.
“i can see that.”
“then why did you ask?”
you stared at him. he started back. then continued taping the banner like you weren’t standing there.
“do you have permission for that?”
“no.”
“take it down.”
“no.”
“sunghoon.” you pause.
“that’s my name.”
a few students nearby laughed. you hated that.
sunghoon finally climbed down the ladder, unfortunately that only put him closer.
“why do you care so much?”
you folded your arms. “why don’t i care enough?”
his expression shifted slightly. not enough for anyone else to notice, just enough for you.
“trust me,” he said. “i care.”
something about the way he said it almost sounded serious. almost.
then he grabbed the ladder and started walking away.
“see you at the party.”
you stared at his back.
“i’m not going.”
sunghoon didn’t even turn around.
“yeah,” he pauses. “we’ll see.”
—
by the time you got home, you were exhausted.
not physically. mentally.
somehow, park sunghoon had managed to occupy the majority of your afternoon without actually accomplishing anything productive.
the meeting, the banner, the party. the stupid confidence he carried around like it was a personality trait.
you kicked your shoes off near the door and dropped your bad into the floor.
peace.
finally.
for approximately, 37 seconds your phone buzzed.
you ignored it.
it buzzed again.
you frowned.
unknown number.
