SHORT STORY WRITING COMPETITION 2013

Hello, welcome to the 2013 Short Story Writing Competition.

In your rules it states that every six stories there will be a winner and then one big winner. It doesn't appear that you've done this to find your three winners. Did the rules change somewhere that I missed?

Yeah the rules actually changed due to us realizing that wouldn't be very fair

So basically the mod system that's used this year is that there are mods who are given an anonymous set of 8 stories and they will grade those stories based off a rubric. The scores are averaged out and we find the top scores.

The top 12 are personally modded by me (mikkelsn) and the winner in the end isn't necessarily the one that received the highest score.

Random anon suggestion that you don't have to publish: But how are you going to publish the winners? I was thinking list the group of 6 and the moderator, have links to everyone's stories because I'd like to read them all, and then say who each winner is out of the group and then the overall winner.

Hey anon, we decided to change the modding style for the competition because we found a better alternative that ensures more fairness. It's basically a mod gets 8 randomized stories that they judge and we find the average score of the story. 

We will consider posting all the stories online or just the top 6 stories. 

We will credit all the mods on the blog when the winners have been posted, as well as people who have supported the competition

you have to be willing to give me your email and check the email regularly because thats where I’ll be contacting you. the official sswc email is ([email protected])

one mod will be reviewing 6 stories against a rubric that I will email to you

you have to finish modding by december 23 

the sign ups for mods close on december 11

there will be 50+ mods 

you have to be seriously committed to this and check your email regularly!

we're not going to reveal the amount of submissions

and yes of course we will send a notification -- because the winners will get real letters mailed to them :)

Why did you change the deadline? It's been more than enough time to write 1k words and now NaNoWriMo is starting...

evidently the deadline was too early, i know nanowrimo is starting, but i would like to offer the opportunity of writing shorter stories to people.

WELCOME WRITERS, WRITING ENTHUSIASTS, CURIOUS BEINGS ALIKE! TO THE 2013 SHORT STORY WRITING COMPETITION!

After seeing so many talented writers on tumblr writing fanfiction and metas, I’ve decided to have a fun event where we could all be creative and share our story ideas! 

You don’t have to follow anyone to join, you simply have to write. Write a 1k minimum story about ANYTHING you love, and submit it to me. Deadlines are on the 1st of November 2013. 

There will be an official blog for the compilation of stories that will be set up ASAP. 

Winners will be up to the mods! Every 6 stories, there will be one winner chosen by the mod judging those 6 stories. Each winner besides the first place winner will get a handwritten letter (and maybe a trinket from Indonesia) with a note from me and the mod. And a place on the mods’ and my blog. 

— there will be one ‘favourite’ story winner, who will get a special gift that won’t be disclosed as of now —
