In your deaged Grace scenarios, why does Grace refer to himself as Ryland instead of Grace, and why does he insist that Rocky call him that too whether or not Grace retains his adult memories?

It depends on the scenario—obviously, one’s more light-hearted than the other!

If de-aged Grace doesn’t retain his adult memories, he refers to himself as Ryland as that’s his name after all! Why would he be called Grace? That makes him sound so adult-ish and teacher-like! Plus, both he and Colt share the same last name, so going by a last name basis is completely pointless!

Now, if de-aged Grace DID retain his adult memories, although they are a bit muddled, he refers to himself as Ryland because he feels disconnected from his adult self. He can’t be the same: “Dr. Ryland Grace, savior of the stars,” if he throws tantrums over simple math problems, is petrified of the dark, and mispronounces most scientific words.

And certainly, he’s not “brave,” anymore..

The idea that after meeting Rocky, Grace subverts the phrase, “dumb as a rock,” to “smart as a rock.”

How do we think Eridians feel about Chocolate Rocks?

Better yet, how would Rocky/Adrian react to Grace eating one—or a handful!—right in front of them? (Not on purpose obviously!)

Originally, for this idea, I was going to have Grace's mind de-age along with his body because I wanted it to serve as a character study of sorts:

To Rocky, the only Grace he knows is... well, Grace: a former teacher at Grover Cleveland Middle School, who has a PhD in Molecular Biology. He’s tall, brave, brilliant, and, of course, the savior of the stars.

But he doesn't know Ryland. The boy who, while open-minded and eager to learn about everything and anything, is rather small for his age, reserved, afraid of the dark, and has trouble making friends.

So, it'll be interesting to see how Rocky tries to regain Ryland's trust. Comforting a little boy who's light-years away from home while simultaneously racing to develop an antidote.

But! If Grace were to keep his adult mind intact-OH! how it would STING.

Sure, it can be played for laughs with how ridiculous his voice sounds now and how he can't reach practically anything, but the absolute TOLL it'd take on his brain and emotional regulation.

A child's brain simply isn't built to hold over forty years' worth of memories, experiences, and knowledge. It's like trying to pour more water into a glass that's already overflowing. Eventually, it stops fitting, and everything starts spilling over.

His memories are going to become more scrambled and jumbled than anything. He's going to get mad at himself for not remembering simple equations. He's going to find himself throwing tantrums and crying more regularly over things he'd normally brush off.

And, most importantly, he's going to crave the comfort of his mom, knowing damn well she's gone, and yet his brain refuses to believe it..

This is EXTREMELY indulgent, but imagine the one thing they forgot to pack was Grace's retainer, so while he's in space, his teeth are constantly shifting, leading him to have a crooked, yet charming smile

De-aged Grace concept: During his long trip to Erid, Grace celebrates one of the many birthdays he's had since departing Earth. Naturally, this makes Rocky curious about the human tradition of birthdays, prompting Grace to explain that every revolution around the Sun since a person's birth is celebrated with cake, presents, and friends. However, Grace admits that he never really had a full-blown birthday party beyond his childhood, though his students used to shower him with countless gifts and knickknacks, which made up for it in a way.

Of course, Rocky feels bad for not having a gift prepared for Grace, even though Grace assures him it's fine. Meeting Rocky and solving the entire Astrophage fiasco was the greatest gift he could have received, and besides, there would be countless other birthdays to celebrate once they reached Erid.

Rocky, however, refuses to back down and presents Grace with a special Eridian ointment that's supposed to loosen stiff joints as Grace's back and arthritis been killing him. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to Rocky, the ointment affects humans differently than Eridians. Instead of easing Grace's aches and pains, it temporarily de-ages him back into his childhood.

Part of me wants to believe that Grace discovered Sour Skittles during his college years; however, another part of me wants to believe he recently discovered them after confiscating them from a student.

Sure, he’ll try to push through it, but just like a house of cards in an earthquake, he’s going to collapse.

I like to imagine that on the way to Erid, Grace taught Rocky how to play DnD, and shortly afterwards, the two started a campaign that’s still ongoing :))

Guys, how do we feel about a de-aged Grace fanfic, where due to some shenanigans—be it space or Eridian-wise—Rocky finds himself babysitting a 4-year-old Grace for the time being.

It'll primarily be fluff of course, as I want to see Rocky trying his absolute damnedest to take care of Earth’s youngest astronaut.

I absolutely love the concept of Rocky having to babysit a de-aged Ryland Grace due to a science or space hiccup for multiple reasons.

One minute, you'll have Grace channeling his inner Picasso as he decorates Rocky's ball while munching away on snacks. Then the next minute, you have Rocky trying to comfort Grace to the best of his abilities.

Sure, Grace loves his new bestest' pal Rocky, but he's still a kid.

A kid who's light-years away from Earth, and light-years away from his mom and dad...
