so my love for dancetale got reawakened some and I thought that this would be a good time to finally write down my thoughts on one of my favorite au’s and, more precisely, mtt’s role in it! pchoooo
EDIT: forgot to mention this wonderful au’s creator, teandstars!! THANK YOU FOR THIS!
I always imagined that when Mettaton was still a ghost and living a pretty secluded life with his
cousin, they used to dance with each other every day and maybe even started a small dancing
group with the rest of his siblings, Shyren, and her sister. And things were good. Dancing with
them was his life, he was a happy monster; up until that one fateful day that he picked up a
human choreography DVD from the dumpster and realized that hey.
Hey, I can’t move my arms and legs like that, because I have neither.
Painfully self-aware of his lack of limbs, he quickly lost the will to participate in their daily bouts
and, after some time, even went so far and brought a Human Fanclub into being with the aim
to find more monsters that shared his passion for “bipedal” dance routines. Instead, he found
Alphys, who seemed to be more into the Japanese sugar rush kind of dancing-- she did,
however, have an open ear for his struggles and dreams, which sooner than later got them
to agree on a huge deal that they would both benefit from in the future.
While Mettaton wanted a body, Alphys wanted to impress Asgore by building a robot
that would appease to his interests-- the king had once voiced his interest into something
capable of reigniting a monster’s will to dance (his motive being Toriel), so the scientist
designed a body that would fulfill the wishes of every party. Mettaton moved out of his
home and into the city to inhabit his new role as the monster’s star singer and choreographer
after Alphys’ work was done, leaving his cousin without a word and a trace.
It only took Mettaton weeks to gain huge popularity; finally able to dance like he had always
wanted to and pouring his soul into his every movement. His dance style can only be
described as powerful, fluid and leggy -- heavily influenced by his mood, he mostly dances
to hip-hop and pop, though it appears like he is versed in the classics as well.
Despite his popularity, he’s terribly lonely, which is mostly his fault for being too scared to
contact Napstablook and neglecting Alphys ever since he started getting busy. Neverthe-
less, he does inspire the Underground to improve their skills with the shows and tutorials
that the MTT-Emporium sells on DVD. At least one thing he got right, he jokes sometimes:
Mettaton doesn’t only dance for the Underground, he also does it to “get away”.
Examples for how his dancing might look are here, here and here! theyre really good!!
