Ā The subject matter of most of the library's books were strange to him. The current one Stahl was reading spoke of things he had never heard of before, such as microwaves, printers, televisions and treadmills. Without pictures, he could only guess what they were by the name and some context clues. Even with a guess that seemed as if it might make sense, Stahl wrinkled his nose and scratched hard at his head, desiring to know at least how they operated.Ā
Ā Standing from his seat at the table furthest to the back, Stahl stood and walked to the shelf he took the book from. Pushing it back into it's spot, he scanned the shelf for more books like it. Each time he pulled out a book, however, they had flowery, cute, pastel covers that didn't look as if they would tell him much. His eyebrows furrowed (even more so than usual) and he mused quietly, "I wonder if the other book was misplaced..." before pulling it back out, a face appearing at the other side of the shelf just as he did.
Ā Yelping, Stahl tensed and took a quick step back. Being a man of war, it was embarrassing to be startled by someone so easily, but he had assumed he was alone for the past quarter of an hour. Relaxing himself with a deep breath, he stepped to his previous spot and frowned at the face across from him. A strange, almost familiar feeling welled up in Stahl's stomach as he locked his gaze with the red-eyed male, but he ignored it. I think that little scare made me hungry again.
Ā With a clearing of his throat, Stahl said, "Sorry for yelling like that. I thought I was here all by myself. Gods, I hope I didn't scare you, too." Absently rubbing at the side of his head with his free hand, he added, "Just how long have you been here, anyway? Either I haven't been paying attention or you've been really quiet."
