♫ ah yes, lyn and (looks at smudged writing on hand) athonkos
Anankos trails after her nephew, head hung low, long ocean blue hair pooling over her face as she droops. She does not know if she is capable of truly handling this. She could not take care of her own lands… how was she meant to help someone else’s?
And let alone the fact that the two of them were not even who they said they were, a mere act of deceit towards the villagers making the situation only that much worse.
She didn’t want to have to lie to them, but if that made completing their task any easier, she would less than happily do it if she had to. Besides, revealing the truth now would surely only make them that much angier. They had already been fooled once by imposters, to know that they had been lied to again - even if herself and Shigure meant no harm by it - would surely be another prickling thorn in their hearts that they couldn’t bear, a betrayal that would sting more than any other.
Anankos waits a moment, as one of the elders passes her a note with messy handwriting. It is just barely legible enough that she is able to make out the list of supplies and she bows her head.
“Worry not… I’m… sure that we will be able to get all of this, and perhaps more… we are… happy to be able to help you… right, Lady Lyn?”
The Silent Dragon’s song dips into a regretful thing—not necessarily unusual in and of itself, but coupled with their situation and the distaste that accompanies the regret, it makes Shigure wonder if his dear ojichan dislikes having to put on this charade as much as he does. Still, he nods his head when the older bluenette addresses him again. “Of course. We’ll get this all sorted out.” He waits for Anankos before
Despite the list being written in a nigh-unintelligible hand, Shigure still manages to make out the different necessities the villagers have requested. He reads through the list and... er. Well. A few of the items are about what he’d expect of this size to need; others... clearly are not, and are most likely victims of the elders’ inability to hear correctly. He should’ve expected as much. It likely would have been less of a waste of time to have one of the other villagers do it, but the last thing he wants to do is trouble them more.
“Um... some of these things don’t look right,” he points out in case his ojichan missed, “I’m pretty certain they don’t actually need ‘six bushels of parrots,’ for example." It makes him wonder how effectively the village has been run since the elders went hard of hearing—perhaps the imposters targeted this place due to the difficulties that attempting to bring them to justice here might entail. If that’s the case, as annoying as that is he might have to commend them for utilizing such an insidious strategy.
pridelessdaydreamer:
decorating dinner with delicious(?) dressings
Linhardt nods, looking through the collection of ingredients for the grape leaves. While he was not a chef by any means and thus was not familiar with them that way, he’d studied various different things in the past and that led him to be familiar with plants such as these. He has to double-check, but he finds them easily enough.
“Found them,” and he prepares his knife to cut them into shape. (One thing he knew about cooking was to use separate utensils between meat and veggies, or to wash them at the very minimum. It was a basic precaution to avoid spending ages in the infirmary later, undoubtedly against his own will.) With a freshly cleaned blade, he sets to slicing.
The leaves are cut with ease—he was getting better at this, he could tell. While still careful to avoid hurting himself, measuring and cutting where it seemed about right was becoming slightly more effortless each time. It was actually rather satisfying. (Definitely, Lin was improving.)
In the corner of his eye, he spots the other eyeing the crust and pizza stone, seemingly deep in thought about something. He imagines that if he could hear Shigure’s thoughts, they’d likely be filled with thoughts as to what to do next—several steps ahead, of course. This was his recipe after all.
Careful and calculating, but not in a cold fashion. Observational skills and rational thinking were useful regardless of tradition or demeanor. It was like a science experiment—follow the procedure closely, to make latter modifications easier. The experiment was simply food, and cooking is chemistry, isn’t it?
But all that iterating would come in due time. Instead, Linhardt asks, “What’s next after this?”
“Hmm?” Linhardt’s question pulls him from his reverie, and the bluenette takes a moment to recall what he had decided for the different steps in the recipe. “Let me see... ah, yes, let me drizzle oil on the crust first before we start putting the toppings on. Fish, leaves, tofu—right, next we’ll dice the olives. Here,” taking the container of feta cheese, he hands it to the verdette, “why don’t you make sure this is nice and finely crumbled so we can sprinkle it on the pizza? I’ll get started with the olives after I do the crust.” The duo has prepared most of the ingredients now anyway, so it probably won’t hurt for the crust to sit with the olive oil a bit.
Shigure drizzles the oil with a critical eye, leaving space for the border at the edge that is, purportedly, meant to act as a handhold once the dish has been sliced up. After some thought, he turns to dig through one of the utensil drawers and comes upon a basting brush. Ah, perfect. New tool in hand, the Blue Lion spreads the oil out into a thin, even layer across the crust and smiles in satisfaction when he finishes. Setting the brush aside, he puts the tofu on a plate separate from the fish and goes off to re-clean his implements. As he starts in on the olives, he hums, a happy little tune his caretakers used to sing about making good food.
I wonder what they would think about this dish, he wonders. Certainly they’d be curious as to the origin of the non-Hoshidan cuisine... maybe they’d be happy I finally got the chance to connect with my mother’s heritage? Hmmm... No doubt Minato would be ecstatic to try something new, especially a dish from his old friend. I hope he gets to enjoy incredible food in the afterlife... and that my new recipe will find its way there for him to taste, too.
anankelotus:
♫ ah yes, lyn and (looks at smudged writing on hand) athonkos
Oh dear, these elders are quite… hard of hearing. Or ignoring most of what Shigure is saying in favour of hearing what they want to hear. Both possiblities were likely. But so far, Shigure seems to be taking on the role of Lyn quite well, for someone who did not seem to know her at all. Which, made them quite lucky indeed that the villagers didn’t seem to truly know here either. Though, Anankos does not think she looks quite old and wise enough to be considered a ‘sage’.
Ah well, it was probably best to… roll with it for now, as the kids would say.
“You… really should not have to pay for supplies that you are going to need… I’m sorry for your troubles, but we should not charge you at all! We will hunt them down to the best of our abilities, and should you truly want to pay us, we shall negotiate the deal afterwards…!” Her voice is raised far higher than it has been in many years, sounding rather squeaky in the air of the village. But she must be confident, to keep up the act that her dear nephew has already started to build. Besides, it wouldn’t be all that well for the villagers to figure out that yet another person had lied to them. Her shattered mind can come up with a thousand different ways this could all go wrong, constantly worried about what lurked behind any corner. And so she tred carefully, trying not to disturb the peace that they were starting to build.
She tugs gently on her nephew’s sleeve, pulling him down slightly to be able to whisper in his ear, taking care to not let the villagers hear her words.
“Shigure… we should proably do what they ask… lest they get anymore suspcious than they already are. I’m sure we are more than capable of getting whatever supplies they require anyway…”
As Anankos pulls him down to speak in private, Shigure listens to what the older bluenette has to say. After a moment of consideration, he nods. “That’s a fair assessment. Perhaps in tracking down the imposters we might well find the missing materials anyway, but if not,” he shrugs, “it’s easy enough to replace them, as you said.”
The sooner the two can do so, the sooner they can finish dealing with these elders. Nice enough and caring about their village they may be, the fact that they can barely understand the emissaries from the monastery makes it that much harder to... enjoy working with them. And Shigure has effectively already filled his quota of interacting with strangers for today; he itches to leave, to go on a soothing flight or take a dip in a lovely lake. Not that he’ll be able to do so if he and Anankos want to accomplish their task as soon as possible. So the teen bows Hoshidan-style to the villager group—“Thank you for allowing us to assist you. Please compile the list of necessities and hand it to us as soon as you are able.”—and turns, heading back to where Kaito awaits near the entrance of the town.
I hope I don’t offend Lyn too much with this whole situation... not that it can exactly be helped anyway.

“I am… I am trying, Shigure… I promise I am trying…” He thought, that everything could be fine, with Cadros and his family by his side, but it seems that he is still the same old Anankos, always drowning in his sorrows and pain, not so able to easily let go of everything, even for just one night.
“But do I really deserve all of that…? I… I do not know if I do… if I am allowed to want such happiness…” He does not cry, not with his face on full view. He will not cry tonight, he cannot cry tonight.
He tenatively takes Shigure’s hand, squeezing it gently. It occurs to him again that this is how the flowers are exchanged, but hopefully Shigure will not mind the small green blossom that flourishes across his vines. They are family… he surely cannot mind.
“If you truly insist… I suppose I must try a little harder…”
Despite the man’s clear anguish, his sorrowful song shifts into something approaching hope. Anankos cannot change who he is or what he has gone through, namely the trauma in his past, but he can heal, Shigure is certain of that. It’s why having the dragon’s family here is imperative, the younger bluenette believes, because who better to assist someone in their recovery than the family and friends they cherish most? The fact that the man does not know whether he even deserves happiness hurts Shigure’s heart even more. It heartens the teen when the other finally takes his hand, and he smiles at the little green flower that blooms on his necklace, cupping it in his free hand with gentle care.
“The fact that you are willing to try at all is so very important,” he replies. “Most people in your position might not even bother, partly because they don’t have anyone who wants to see them get better. You, however, have friends, family, all of whom love and support you so much... and I think I speak for them when I say you are absolutely allowed and encouraged to want happiness for yourself. Of all people, you deserve that—to rest and spend the remainder of your life happy and free.”
@lilythofthevallites asked: “Happy birthday, Shigure!” She holds out her gift, painstakingly prepared during her free time between classes. A wooden hoop, with a woven web pattern in the middle, designed to be hung by someone’s bed. “It’s supposed to catch bad dreams! I’m not quite sure if it’s good, but since I’m an Astral Dragon, it’ll probably work, right?”
Aunt Lilith’s arrival is a bit of a surprise, but a pleasant one. It seems she remembered his birthday too, how lovely! “Oh! Why thank you, Aunt Lilith!” Shigure beams with gratitude as he accepts the beautiful dreamcatcher and admires the craftmanship with gentle fingers. She must’ve worked hard on this, and it shows in the artistry and quality of the piece, not to mention the sheer heart. The dreamcatcher resonates with her song, making him smile in delight.
“It’s gorgeous... I love it! And it’s certain to make me feel better no matter what,” he says. “Even if I do have a bad dream, I can wake up and look at this and listen to your song that’s embedded in it, and I’ll know that everything’s going to be all right. Thank you so much for this!” The light-haired bluenette hugs her, being mindful of the dreamcatcher in his hand. “Why don’t we go hang it up over my bed right now so that it’ll be there when I go to sleep tonight?”

cont’d from here with @gentlenekomata:
While Sakura wandered around the large dance hall, goldenish eyes lured around the area as she was looking for something or for someone: she wasn’t the kind of person who easily talked with strangers, especially during these kind of events and instead of renouncing completely, she decided to seek someone already known, so she could enjoy the event without thinking too much about mannerism and elegant attitude –not that she wasn’t elegant or well-behaved, but being in the presence of a friendly face, it could certainly help her feel less tense or nervous.
Eventually, she heard a very familiar voice calling her name from not too far, a turn and she faced the beloved nephew. “Shigure!!” and she immediately approached his slender figure, all dressed up in a beautiful gown all adorned in gold and with a delicate veil that was covering his head. “You look absolutely lovely!” she chirped as she got close, gently accepting the glass of water offered by him., slipping it away from his pale fingers.
“Though it’s a waste not making it twirl all around the dance floor..” she ponder, while observing the silhouette of the dancer. She took a quick sip, then placed the glass on the table nearby and gently offered her hand to him, the zig-zag mark showing off quite visibly.
“Would you like to dance with me?”
Shigure chuckles as Aunt Sakura exclaims over his outfit in delight. “I’m glad you like it! I thought I might wear something reminiscent of Valla but in line with evening formal wear... it seems I hit the mark quite well!” Really, he is pleased she likes it, and that his outfit has been such a hit with his friends and family. Ordinarily he’d wear Hoshidan kimono to a function like this--has in fact done just that, in the past--but tonight called for something a bit more magical and mysterious, and what better fashion to follow than that of his birth country? It fits excellently with the theme, and he’s grateful he was wearing this when the elementals shrunk everyone down for the ball.
He registers his obachan’s offered hand and request for a dance, and laughs. “Of course! How could I say no to my dear aunt? And you’re right, we should see exactly how my outfit moves when I dance. A dancer needs to make sure his or her costume isn’t getting in their way, after all!” With a smile, he takes her lightning-blessed hand with his own water-marked palm, a flower of electrifying violet blossoming on his vine. Leading the pinkette woman out onto the floor, the bluenette teen takes a poised stance, prepared for the next song.
“Shall we?”
@loveevangelist asked: [ Wish ] - Off to the side there is a lonely well. Perhaps if you toss in a coin and keep it company for a moment, it will grant you a wish?
"Ah, are you here to make a wish as well?"
Approaching the only other student she sees, Poe speaks up, soft voice serving the dual purpose of announcing her presence and asking a question. She strides a couple paces past the young man, stopping short just between him and the well nearby. Down, down, into the well Poe peers. The still water below that the wind does not reach reflects her visage back at her, dark but clear.
It is time for her to make an offering, and in the absence of a proper altar, she supposes this will do. …Or so she would like to say, but the young woman realizes she is missing a crucial component: the offering in question, a soft gasp escaping her as she searches herself. No luck.
"Oh my. How unfortunate... of all days to be without coin." Poe murmurs, face painted with a rare frown before she remembers that she is not alone. She collects herself, puts on a smile, and reaches out a hand tentatively. "I hate to be such a bother to a stranger, but would you happen to have a coin or two to spare? You will certainly be rewarded for it—those who do good deeds for strangers are viewed fondly by the divine~"
Shigure finds himself fascinated by the idea of the wishing well. For the miniscule offer of a single gold coin, having a wish granted seems like one is getting much more than one’s money’s worth, depending on the wish. The bluenette can’t help but think of some rather big wishes he and his friends might have that the well might perhaps not be equipped to grant. Still... in a way, it reminds him of Valla and how the people would worship the Silent Dragon. Would they bring gifts of money to him, or would they offer other things like jewels and fine clothes and food?
The violet-haired woman beside him appears to view the practice in a similar manner, and he smiles at her when she asks him for a coin. “Heh, yes, that’s right. Although, I’d rather do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do as opposed to currying favor with the gods. If they like me more because of it, well... I suppose it’s a nice bonus. Here, why don’t we make our wishes together?” He gives her the coin with his water-blessed hand, the soft glow of a blue blossom blooming on his vine as his palm touches hers. He’ll admit, he doesn’t know quite what to wish for--actually, no, that’s not quite true: he knows exactly what to wish for. Perhaps the magic of the well will respond to one who asks on behalf of a former deity.
“On three, shall we?”
mettaton vc knock 'em dead darling!
They were up first. (If Colm had to make a list of people to win a dance contest with, he’d probably put Ethlyn pretty high up there. She had cool vibes.)
The music begins—it’s kinda slow, but so is a lot of rich people music—and while Colm doesn’t know a whole lot about formal dances, he does have a lot of natural dexterity. The dance has absolutely no theory whatsoever, but what Colm can say it does have is style.
Scores: Style: 10, Choreography: 7, Technique: 2 — Total: 19!
“Not bad!” Colm beams upon seeing the judges scores. “We did pretty good, don’tcha think?”
with: @ladyleonster ; vs @areadboar & @stalarmonios !
As horribly as Ethlyn's night has gone, it still isn't enough to dampen her competitive spirit. Especially when it's Colm who comes seeking a partner. He'd been willing to go along with her big idea of a surfing contest and he's got spunk and spirit.
His spirit shines through as he dances and Ethlyn can't help but smile as she matches his enthusiasm. They twirl about the stage with flair, both dancers unafraid to add their own touches to a basic waltz. Their execution of the steps is certainly lacking but Ethlyn is able to let go of her earlier heartbreak and enjoy a few moments of fun.
Tie breaker roll: 3!
"Not bad at all!" She agrees and holds out her hand for a fist bump.
@stalarmonios @areadboar
Dimitri waited in the wings off stage with his partner Shigure as they watched Colm and Ethlyn perform. He had practised the moves Shigure had given him and he was a prepared as he could be. He only hoped he didn't let his partner down.
Curtains up! Their turn.
Scores: Style: 8, Choreography: 7, Technique: 3 — Total: 18!
The moves flowed together well and they managed to stay in sync as the leapt round the stage, passing each other in a swirl of fabric from their costumes. It was going well but Dimitri wasn't certain. He felt his own moves were a bit stilted, as though the technique could do with some work to make it look natural.
Their dance came to an end. As he stood there, breathing heavily, he looked Shigure in the eyes. "I gave it my all. It's up to the judges now"
@stalarmonios
Dancing comes naturally to Shigure, as easily as breathing, singing, painting, swimming. It goes hand-in-hand with all the arts he loves and enjoys; indeed, it is one of his favorite performance arts. It’s only reasonable, then, that he participate in the White Heron Cup and try his very best to succeed, though he’ll admit he might be disappointed if he doesn’t win. His dancing partner, a fellow teen and his House Leader, Dimitri, sounds nervous if Shigure is reading his song and stance correctly. Well, perhaps he doesn’t have enough faith it the two of them?
“Relax,” the bluenette murmurs, “we’ll be just fine. Follow me and let your movements flow like a gentle stream.”
Roll tiebreaker: ...1.
Unfortunately his efforts, though infused with all of his heart as if he were singing, are apparently not sufficient to win them the cup, even though the two of them end up initially tying with their opponents. With a soft sigh, Shigure offers the audience an elegant bow and takes the loss with grace. It can’t be helped; he’ll have to try again next year. What a shame...
“I apologize that we didn’t make it to the next round,” he tells Dimitri with a small smile, “but we gave it our best and that’s all that matters.”
cont’d from here with @pridelessdaydreamer
It was after an ample amount of time seated that Linhardt eventually decided to stand up again—mostly for refreshments.
(Just for refreshments.)
So it was pretty convenient that, not too long after he got up, Shigure entered view with not just one, but two drinks.
“Thank you.” It does not show on his face, but Linhardt is happy to receive it. “I’m fine. It’s my first time too, but the people here aren’t as bothersome as I expected. Of course, being as tall as we aren’t is an interesting situation, but that’s out of our control isn’t it?”
Pausing to really take in the ballroom—ignoring the rats and the like, of course—Linhardt can see Shigure’s point. It’s nicely decorated, has a pleasant atmosphere, and (he takes a sip of the drink he was offered) the refreshments are nice too. Green apple, he recognizes. He has no preference for the taste, but he passively notes the green color.
“It is nice,” he agrees, the mark of Earth on his right hand humming in his veins like a crest. He realizes then the presence of a card within his grasp, and when he glances—You’ve been officially matched with—he folds it up twice over with his free hand and tucks it into his hair.
“It would be better if we weren’t being watched, of course.”
Shigure tilts his head at Linhardt’s comment, then frowns down at the card in his hand that most certainly hadn’t been there before. Turning to glance up at the elemental Morfisians above, he raises a brow at his patron in questioning. Water merely gives him a burbly little giggle and waves him on with a sparkling grin.
“𝐻𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝒻𝓊𝓃, 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓉𝓌𝑜~!” she says in response before flouncing away, likely to play with some other poor unfortunate soul if the way her song lilts is anything to go by. The bluenette finds himself staring after her for a bit, then returns his attention to his friend next to him and to the card still in his hand. The card, of course, doesn’t offer him any clues, save for perhaps a description about Linhardt—if he were an animal someone wished to have adopted as a pet, that is. Shigure doesn’t consider himself a cynical person by nature, but his faith in whoever wrote the card plummets; surely they had better things to do than this silly prank?
“... I guess you have a point?” he offers in bemusement, sighing as he tucks the card in his skirt, having seen the verdette do similar with his own. “In any case, we should probably take the time to enjoy ourselves while we’re here. I’m of a mind to collect as many flowers as I can, though that... seems a difficult task...” Considering his more asocial nature, that would usually be the case, and yet he seems to have done not too shabby a job thus far. He might as well ask Linhardt if the other is amenable to a trade. “Speaking of which, would you like to exchange flowers? If it’s not too much trouble, that is.” The teen offers his water-blessed hand, small smile on his face. If it weren’t for his goal, he’d rather while the ball away with such a calm presence; then again, he also wants to dance, which means not staying in one place like a wallflower. Ah, well, such is life, he supposes.
@anankelotus answered: Anankos stares at Shigure, so light-hearted and at ease with the strangeness of this all. Well... at least his dear nephew is having fun...
He briefly considers if he should truly join in Shigure's fun, but quickly decides against it. He does not even know if he could be granted such ephmeral flutters of wings. It has been so long since his feet had even left the ground, so long since he could simply let go of human concepts like staying rooted on your own two feet.
Perhaps it is the folly of youth that allows kids like Shigure and Lilith to easily let their burdens slip past them, and he hopes that someday, it will not catch up to them. He would protect them from that future if he had to. He would do anything to make sure that they did not lose a joy for life, what happiness they could find in this world.
"It's quite impressive... Shigure... though, I don't know if I would wish to fly like that myself..." Once, before he was a mere abandoned soul, he had been able to cloak himself in the wings of a dragon, but those days were long past. And even if he still had them, he did not doubt that they would be marred and tattered, a shadow of their former self.
"I am glad that you are... having fun though... you kids should be able to enjoy events like this without a burdened heart weighing you down..."
Even through the kind words, it is evident that his dear uncle feels some form of unworthiness, and Shigure cannot help the sad gaze he gives the man. What the Silent Dragon did in the past is past; no amount of self-recrimination will do anything about it except make one feel worse. In his opinion, the former deity of Valla deserves to have fun tonight just as much as everyone else. But how can he get the older bluenette to understand that?
“I think the same goes for you too,” he returns, fluttering down to land lightly before Ana-ojichan. “Seeing you so down casts a pall over my heart. How am I supposed to enjoy myself when you clearly aren’t doing so? Please, for just one night, put your burdens and worries aside. You deserve a break—you deserve to be happy... and nothing would bring me more joy than seeing you genuinely have fun tonight.” The teen holds out his right hand, his (quite literally) water-marked hand, in invitation, a gentle smile on his lips.
“For those of us who love and care about you, won’t you allow yourself to have the time of your life?”

Shigure has been to at least one royal function before, but a ball of this size and grandeur is beyond his wildest dreams. Obtaining access to the Dancer class sounds like a delightful idea, and it is time for him to truly make the effort to mingle with his classmates and fellow monastery attendees. Fitting for his heritage, he bears the mark of water on his right palm to match his grace and beauty (as to whether he’ll approach his patron, well... he might prefer going to the academy members first).

@anankelotus asked: "Shigure!" Now that he is back on his feet, he finally feels like he is able to congratulate his dear nephew on a job well done. "Their" house may have not won, but they had done their best. And that was enough... right?
"You did a good job, my boy. I'm proud of you... even if your house did not win..."
“Ojichan!” Shigure races over to hug the older bluenette, his heart a light pitter-patter of relief at seeing Anankos well. “I’m so glad you’re feeling better!” It had been, if he’s honest, very heart-wrenching at finding his dear uncle in the mud; now that the latter has been attended to, the teen can rest easy.
As the gentle Silent Dragon praises him for his performance, Shigure giggles and ducks his face in embarrassment. “Thanks, that means a lot to me coming from you. I’ve been working so hard to get stronger, better, more skilled... it’s very encouraging to know that my efforts have paid off. Even if the Blue Lions didn’t win, I’m happy with my record. And besides, there’s always next year! Who knows, perhaps we’ll finally claim victory once and for all!” He beams back up at Anankos. “You’ll cheer me on, of course, or fight beside me? If we do, I know we’ll win no matter what!” That would probably make him the happiest of all: to continue fighting by his family members’ sides.
