some updates from site since we left.
The Nooks Classroom. Passed to the safe hands of Kassi Kunda, their building and their future, from now on built by them.
Week 13. The party and the good byes.
Week 13. Setting up for the future, and celebrating our achievements
Week 13. The building as we left it for the locals to continue....
Week 13. ( Lots of work so will be several posts... ) setting in the roof frames, painting them. Local women lime washing the adobe bricks. Attaching the roof battens. removing formwork.
Week 12. Ramming, bricks, the bench, and the floor.
Week 11. Moving up the rammed earth wall. Building the brick walls, making bricks, collecting materials.
The First Week. Setting out the building and integrating with the village.
Week 8. Getting over the torrential rain from week 7, and the devestation caused to the footings, we begin ramming! Mixing clay, sand and gravel to form the wall. Making bricks with Ratty. #checkcheck
Week 6. Filling the second footing. Constructing the timber rammed earth formwork. Exposing the footing.
Week 5. Lime topping the footing, prepping lime and timber. Tabaski and a naming ceremony,
Week 4. Building the footings, collecting clay and rocks, torrential rain + getting to know the locals.
Week 3. Filling the foundations and building the footings. A presentation to the village of the project and Jennie’s thesis project followed by lots of dancing.
Week 2. Foundations, formwork and bricks, With a few cheeky football matches..
