I’m proud of you for not giving up on yourself. I’m so glad you made it this far.
I cant believe I always forget this but November is national diabetes awareness month! 6 years has been crazy and it’s been hard, cuz you feel like you’re alone, but you’re not! I’ve met some amazing people at diabetes camp and I’ve even decided to work towards a career in diabetes education! Just know if any of y’all are dealing with this disease, you’re not alone! And even tho type 1 is permanent, you can still live a perfectly normal life if you keep a good eye on it! It’s not easy, but people are there to help you through it!
May we all conquer this together!
My diagnosis was six years ago in January. It does get better.
DUDES! I'm in my 30 something yo and I just marked 31 years of being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (and I didn't even notice that at first bc I don't stay there counting them during all this time never ever once thought about the time that it was passing, it all happened totally by chance lol).
Anyways, no matter how much time has passed since your diagnosis, GREAT JOB you all!!! You fu*king rock and ily! 💙
Yup! Due to various reasons... it does get better with time.
My personal not required suggestion (lmao) would be: definitely keep your health in check everyday but once you have done that, refrain from thinking/reflecting too much about diabetes and everything related to it.
(I don't have much experience with pumps, mainly bc I keep my glicemia well in check even without that so I prefer to be free, but over time I inevitably grew a certain experience which is at your total disposal, guys.
The first years after certain diagnosis is fundamental to have a guide, someone to learn from and acquire knowledge that then is gonna make us independent. Of course it doesn't have to be I, but please go, reach for help, inform yourself on the subject and share your experience with other diabetics, it will help you incredibly to manage the condition which is going to impact you less heavily. I do know that bc unfortunately I got diagnosed with impacting chronic illnesses multiple times, which means I had to go through that tough starting process, more than once.
If you are diabetic and also have IBD and/or rheumatologic diseases please know I'm here for you if need be. xo)
I decided to create a masterpost that would help you with what you are struggling with. Hopefully any of the links below will help you! Reminder; You’re going to be okay. What you are going through will pass, just remember to breathe.

Digital illustration of a large group of disabled people of different ethnicities, ages, and genders. Among the crowd are service and emotional support animals. There’s two smaller protest signs that read, ‘I shouldn’t lose benefits when I get married.’ And ‘ban subminimum wage’ the main sign reads, ‘disabled people are expert of their own lives and know what they need.’

November is Nerve Pain Awareness Month. Or as I like to call it, “NERVEmber.”
There are many conditions that involve nerve pain that most don’t realize. Neuropathy is a collection of disorders that occur when nerves of the peripheral nervous system are injured or damaged. The peripheral nerves are the ones outside of the brain and spinal cord, in our arms, legs, hands and throughout the body.
There are 3 types of peripheral nerves:
Autonomic nerves regulate biological activities that people do not control consciously such as breathing, digesting food and heartbeat.
Motor nerves control movements of all muscles under conscious control such as walking, grasping things, talking.
Sensory nerves transmit information about sensory experiences such as feeling a light touch or the pain resulting from a cut.
Some neuropathy affects all three types of nerves, others primarily affect one or two types. Some of the terms you might hear are predominately motor neuropathy, predominately sensory neuropathy, sensory-motor neuropathy and autonomic neuropathy.
Neuropathy usually causes pain and numbness resulting from injuries, infections, metabolic disorders, or exposure to toxins. One of the most common causes of neuropathy is diabetes.
There are approximately 150 known types of neuropathy and the causes of most are not yet known. Healthcare professionals had a longstanding belief that neuropathy pain is just a symptom of an illness and therefore not a disease. We now know that chronic nerve pain is a disease in itself, and the medical community and public are beginning to look at it in this way. (Read more at link)
Denying a patient the right to a diagnosis just bc the disorder you suspect they have doesn’t have a cure is ableist and abuse of power.
Patients have the right to know what is going on with their body. If you aren’t prepared to help them, there is an entire community who can provide them with the knowledge & skills you lack (symptom management, clinical trials, latest research, emotional support, list of specialists and treatment options, etc).
The least you can do is give them the diagnosis.
You’re gonna survive. And good things are gonna start to happen again. And one day you may even look back and even this will not be such a bad thing.
“You’re too young to be in pain”
I will end you.

Chronic pain problems •
Pain relief is not a crutch, not a vice, not a crime.
Period.
Once my boyfriend told me: "You're not a burden. A burden is something you're forced to carry against your will. I freely choose to be a part of your life and that means you aren't a burden to me." I'm passing it on in case some of you need to be reminded of that.
Your illness
is the burden,
you aren’t. 💙🥄
