my dad was explaining to me that one of the reasons why he has such a hard time using they/them for one person is cause he was taught that using they on a singular person was as rude as calling them an it (as in its extremely dehumanizing and passive aggressive to call a single person 'they', with my mum backing him up) and i had a fuckin ratatouille flashback to when i asked him to use exclusively he/him on me and. for an entire Year. he only used they/them on me. so yeah thats how my days going
plurality is like having the little angel and devil on your shoulder telling you what to do except instead of an angel and a devil it's like 40 random guys and a pigeon for some reason
talking abt. what this means to me,. and why i made it. under the cut.
this is abt what i think is a very unique and very frustrating problem that we keep running into with friends
it goes something like:
meet another person, be very open about being a system, transneutral & intersex
they understand all this and are chill about it
give them our collective identity introduction and explain we struggle heavily with dissociation so we tend to just run under a collective identity
& dont use pluralkit unless we absolutely need to (like in situations where multiple distinct alters are having multiple distinct convos/ideas/messages).
or for safety, because we don't like having public detailed info abt each alter or having info abt being a system easily traced back to us. we also often use a collective/plural "i" instead of "we" for a similar reason
be relatively okay with casual masc language & casual fem language. i don't protest when being called a "dude" or "bro" and they dont usually push "girl" or "sis" (not that i would protest to that either)
they assume we're transmasc lite, which (to them) is just trans man lite^2
make a comment about wanting estrogen and/or breast forms
they get super uncomfortable and confused but dont question it, just ignore it
theyre also, usually, frequently misgendering us
in their confusion about our gender they forget the previous discussion about the Collective Identity and assume theres someone named "Carrion" and someone named "Omen" and theyre both hosts
or they assume one or the other is the Weird Gender One and report back to me with "yeah did you know omen wants you to detransition?"
they get attached to these "alters" and view them as their Closest Friends (in contrast to the other real alters). i dont clue into this because i have disclaimers on my profile + im autistic asf
we jokingly flirt with them. no matter how that ends, theyre always saying "omen flirted with me but you werent fronting, carrion"
i go What. they go What. i reexplain that those are collective names and not specific people
they get super upset. in their eyes, their friend no longer exists
because of the confusion and assumptions, they have built us this entire false primary-host-identity of an almost trans man with an evil detransitioning twin
they get pissed off and act like ive catfished them. i get told off and told to use pluralkit and simplyplural and ampersand and-
they dont listen about how those tools are typically inaccessible to us because it takes so much emotional and mental labor to sus out whos fronting constantly that it triggers migraines & we're often wrong/inaccurate
the entire time, there's been MULTIPLE notes in our bio, pk bio, name, and intros going "hey btw were collectively TRANSNEUTRAL, INTERSEX, and CARRION IS NOT A SPECIFIC ALTER. also we collectively use IT/ITS, XENIC NOUNS, and MG/MAGE/MAGISTRATE HONORIFICS."
after a long talk they get men in black memory erased and it starts all over again
its a very frustrating thing to have happen over and over and over and constantly feel like a fraud because im not living up to this false image these people have created of me. it feels like im constantly having to play a character for people who are supposed to be my friends because they don't know how to read my bio.
i don't want to be forced into using a proxy bot that i dont find useful (which doesnt work half the time because of outages, and the delay between message and proxy can trigger my photo-sensitivity if too many ppl are proxying too fast). if i feel SAFE and know who i am, we have who's fronting in our nickname/display name.
im not transmasc. im not a trans man. im not carrion. im not omen. im ME.
im the person youve been talking to. im your friend. and if i trusted you enough and if i had enough energy, id tell you my name. but you just want to talk to "omen", not me.
im not a man, im not a woman. i dont have the genitals or hormones you think i do. im not perisex-lite like you think i am. i should be allowed to talk about my transition without you getting weirded out that im not a trans man.
my favorite color is green, not blue. my name is good, not ethan.
