Thinking... If Veroxians communicate by sound wavelengths, it could be at any frequency. Snake and Otacon keep theirs at a very low frequency similar to that of cosmic noise to avoid detection by various groups. Veroxians don't particularly care about stealth. It doesn't matter if they're intercepted, because they're virtually unstoppable.
One of the only things a non-Veroxian can do to destroy a Veroxian is to atomize it, and even in 5328 that technology is still not quite feasibly weaponizable. It's possible, but it takes considerable prep and careful aiming, which you don't tend to get when facing off against Veroxians.
So if Veroxians don't care about being discovered, their frequency could be anything, including an audible sound. Imagine guarding an outpost or colony when this loud droning noise just descends on you, like a hive of bees. How terrifying would that be?
Another thing to note is that because sound doesn't travel in pure space, Veroxians must be in physical contact to hear each other. This doesn't matter if your ship and entire army is made of Veroxite, but for Snake and Otacon it presents a challenge. Imagine tiny little Otacon being separated from Snake in the vast void of space, unable to be seen or heard, unable to propel himself, helpless.
Needless to say, the two stay very, very close. Snake's Veroxian traits allow him to transform parts of his body that have been converted, so he can make a shell for Otacon on himself and never have to worry about the above scenario.
Jesus, that makes Otacon sound like a little parasite or something, hidden within Snake's mineralized body. I wonder if they joke about that.
"Snake, this is your tapeworm speaking! Movement detected at 23 degrees north-northeast."
"Already seen it. And for fuck's sake, stop saying that."
...It's 1 AM and I'm suffering from severe insomnia. I'm so fucking sorry for bringing that into the world.
