“Just checking out the water here,” Jesse replied with a smile, dropping his feet into the pool, pants rolled up to his calves. “I haven’t really taken any ‘time away’ to do anything like this since I started working here, so I can appreciate the atmosphere.”

hands rose, pressing back saturated platinum hair to lay slick against her head. an easy smile graced pink lips and she nodded. “ --- THIS IS SUCH A WONDERFUL PLACE TO RELAX, i’ve found,” luna informed him, resting arms against the overflow drain to look at him. “what do you do for work ?”

being the only person working in the bakery, rapunzel stood at the counter with a plate of cooled cupcakes before her. the unknown princess could not be in the back should a customer make their way in. snagging the icing bag filled with a light pink confection, the blonde began to make intricate flowers atop the baked good. the tip of a pink tongue stuck out from between full lips, brows furrowed in concentration as she did her decorating. only the tinkling of the bell placed above the door pulled her from her thoughts. at the sight of the man, a smile tugged her lips and she reached a hand up to pull the hat from her head. though intending to look more presentable, she ended up smearing the same pink frosting across her forehead.

a heart raced, brown eyes going wide as she caught sight of yet another familiar face. joanne walked fast as always, a focus about her that mimi had always admired. the other woman already had a decent lead and the brunette did all she could not to wobble as she ran on her heels. already she’d seen maureen and now JOANNE as well ? mimi tried to talk her mind down, not to grow too hopeful that perhaps ROGER was here, that perhaps mark, angel, and collins could be here as well. losing her breath, she decided to call out to her. 

“ --- JOANNE !” she puffed, finally catching up to the woman and throwing her arms around her in the tightest of hugs. “you’re here. it’s YOU.”

the breeze blew gently through blonde hair, hands with nails painted pearl pink rising to pull those strands into a long ponytail. the last thing she needed was to smear the paint that rested on a palette now on the ground. snagging it back up, she smiled as she began to work once more. for quite some time, she’d wanted to find a model. still lifes and scenery only expanded her skills so much and she was prepared to move on to new things. green eyes landing on a lovely blonde woman walking by, she called out to her and prayed that she wouldn’t find her awkward.

times like these made mimi ache, a pang deep inside of her heart causing difficulty breathing. all she wanted was her FRIENDS, her tiny family that had formed at home, in new york city. though she’d gotten herself accustomed to this brand new life, often she ached for what once was. logically, she knew that things were better here, but her life was rife with LONELINESS. though it was evening, the last place she wanted to go was a club or a bar. her own place of work had worn away at her and spotting a coffee house with an open mic night, the brunette swung in and took a seat. grabbing a seat, she watched a few acts before chocolate hues scanned the room and mimi was certain she felt her heart stop. not wanting to disrupt, her feet carried her quickly across the way and hesitated only a moment before reaching out to tap the woman’s shoulder. a part of her mind was certain that she was imagining this woman --- her FRIEND.

brushing back dark curls from her face, eponine snagged her notepad from the apron that hung around her waist. it had been a particularly long day at the diner and the brunette was growing more than a little exhausted. chocolate hues shifted towards the clock, grateful that she only had one more hour before being able to clock out. having been given a new table, she forced a smile onto her lips and moved over. pen in hand, she introduced herself. 

“ --- HELLO, I’M EPONINE. i’ll be taking care of you today. can i get you something to drink ?”

george sat on a bench in the local park, posture casual as green hues followed the crowds that came and went. his hand rested inside of his jean pocket, fingers wrapped around the wooden wand that rested there. occasionally, he would take the chance to play a prank or two on passersby and when a brunette man with a hat perched atop his head walked by, he didn’t let the opportunity go to waste. shifting the wand from his pocket, he kept it pretty well concealed. murmuring a spell under his breath, the hat suddenly blew from the man’s head with a relatively loud bang. it was all he could do to hold back the laughter at the look on his face. 

“ --- WHAT HAPPENED, MATE ?!” george asked the man, wide eyed and pretending he had no idea.

“ --- WINE ?” eponine eyed the glass in her hands, looking at the other girl as if she’d gone mad. “after dealing with people all day, it’s the only thing that calms me. i’m willing to deal with the consequences.”

clear water surrounded luna, facing up towards the beating sun as her ears stayed submerged. there had always been a comfort in swimming and stumbling upon a public pool was a miracle disguised as something simplistic. a halo of platinum hair surrounded her, silvery eyes blinking closed for a mere moment. lost in thought, it was only when she was nudged that she pushed her body upright and allowed arms to tread water. 

“ --- WAS I IN YOUR WAY ?” a curious gaze focused upon the other, an easy smile on rosy lips.

       he flinched as a reflex. then quickly muttered some illogical apology. ted put some space between them & looked up at her face for a second. the ground looked safer though. the ground made sense. “i don’t feel safe. i don’t know where my family is. i can’t be safe unless i know they are. where am i?” he replayed her assurances in his mind as though it would help. he still couldn’t believe her. abruptly, it clicked. “you too?” his eyes shot up to hers. “what happened? can you please tell me? is my family here too?”

guilt wracked her instantly, certain that a touch meant to be therapeutic had only served to frighten him farther. a step back was taken, heels clacking against the pavement beneath careful feet. “ --- I UNDERSTAND,” mimi had seen no trace of the people that she’d considered family, herself. adapting alone had been uncomfortable, like the growing pains of awkward teenage years. “winterwall. a lot people just showed up here. your family could be here, ya know,” the brunette attempted to reassure. “i don’t really know why, though.. or why only some people get picked or whatever you wanna call it. i just know that we’re here.. i’ve been here a while.”

“Puck… Ster?” she said, glaring at him as if he was insane. “Alright, uh, what’s a Puckster and who the hell are you?” she asked, unable to help but find this whole situation amusing. “Wait, wait, Puckster, Puck, yeah, totally remember you, sorry” she laughed, waving her hand, realizing that she should have some fun. “Sorry, sorry, it’s been crazy here, my head’s been everywhere”

his brows furrowed as he looked to the woman, finding something slightly off about quinn on this day. of course, he knew that she was prone to going off the deep end --- she’d done so once before. worry built up inside of him and he nodded. “ --- HOPE YOU WOULD REMEMBER ME. i mean, we kinda have a kid together,” shoulders shrugged, watching her for a moment. “i just saw you a couple days ago. what happened ?”

“Well I’m sorry I didn’t remember a last name, I’m horrible with remembering names and you’re lucky I remember George” she joked, laughing softly. “Alright, alright,” she said as she took his hand. “Please get us out of here”

“ --- YOU’VE GOT TO WORK ON YOUR FRIENDSHIP SKILLS. i’d never forget your name, myself. like a steel trap on my shoulders,” he jokingly brought a fist to the side of his head and tapped lightly. offering her a grin, he took her hand in return, giving it a slight squeeze of reassurance. “this isn’t going to feel too great. fair warning. if you’ve got to puke, aim away from my face if you would,” the ginger informed her before focusing, the pair disappearing into thin air.

“I’d say that you have three seconds to get out of my sight. Your move, kid.” He was a child, barely more than 20 if she had to guess, and Natasha didn’t fancy the barely legal types. She’d been drenched in blood at his age, lethal and young, the perfectly dangerous Molotov cocktail of death. 

“ --- I LIKE IT WHEN THEY PLAY HARD TO GET,” a smirk curled his lips, cocky as per usual despite the fact that he had no true idea of the power that this woman possessed. “i’ve been told i grow on people after a while.”

the blonde looked a little confused as he mentioned that they were both in lima, when he was brought here. quinn had no memory of being in LIMA with puck, she was at yale before she had gotten here and that’s pretty much all she remembered. “that’s strange to say the LEAST. the last thing I remember was being in my english class and then I ended up here.” 

“ --- WEIRD. i don’t get how we were in a different timeline. i mean..,” his brows furrowed and he gave a shake of his head. there was a part of him that wondered if it even mattered --- he was here with quinn, that was GOOD ENOUGH for him. “none of this makes sense, anyway. we were there because sue shut the glee club down. it was the last week. we all came back.”

“And yet I still do it.” Constantly having a judging look shot his direction, something he had been used to his entire life. Being shown kindness? Not so much. It made him question what she wanted from him. No one ever offered anything without expecting something in return. That is how life worked. “Why? Look I am going to tell you right now, I don’t have any money so if you’re expecting me to become a gentleman over a pretty face and offer to pay the bill it ain’t going to happen.” 

“ --- PEOPLE DO THINGS THAT DON’T MAKE SENSE PRETTY OFTEN,” the blonde shrugged her shoulders, not having any sort of ulterior motive in mind. there was an empathy about her, an ability to understand the feelings of others even if she’d never experienced such pain herself. “why ?” she was taken aback for a moment, having thought it was obvious. “because you look hungry. and i’m not expecting you to pay. i was going to pay for you. i sold a painting yesterday, so i’m good for it.”

“ --- JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THE PUCKSTER, HUH ?” the brunette man asked teasingly, eyes scanning up and down the shape of the familiar blonde. certainly things had changed about him, but there was no changing who he really was at the root of his being. “but seriously, q. what’s up ? everything alright ?” it simply seemed odd to see her walking towards his apartment, that look of concentration on her face. how a simple expression could make his heart leap was beyond him. more than anything, however, he wanted to ensure that she was alright.

quinn could’ve believe what she was seeing right in front of her at first. it had been awhile since she had seen puck and bumping into him here in winterwall out of all places was unexpected for the blonde. her smile grew wider as she took in the man standing in front of her. “no, it’s really me. quinn fabray ripped straight from new haven and stuck in small town.” she said jokingly with a shake of her head. 

“ --- NEW HAVEN ?” his brow furrowed in confusion, letting brown hues scan over her face. it was the last thing he’d seen before appearing here, in this town of which he’d never even heard. it was clear as day, the coyness of her smile. he’d turned to follow her, then THIS. “i was in lima when i was.. ripped or whatever. but you were there TOO.”
