ever since ending upin this town, & man was that one shocking day, maureen gained a habit oftravelling from her home to bars & back. it’s not that she was moping, orin shock, or whatever problems people had when finding themselves in another world—it’s just that she had nothing else to do. her love for drama & performancewere completely achieved working as a singer in a few different bars in thistown, & her need for revolution was nulled in this town with its lack ofconnection to the government.
the diva could havecontinued this routine, would have loved to, but when one of her co-workerschatted her up, started talking about a brand new cafe with rowdy &entertaining customers— similar to the life cafe. she just HAD to see it. sohere she is. a block away from the cafe, wearing an outfit half-leather &half-revealing. maureen takes a step forward, only to falter when she caught afamiliar silhouette… by silhouette, really, it’s just a familiar back side—one she’s admired wayy too many times. “ joanne ? ” the name slips from her mouth, ending her motionless shock & causingher to run towards the woman. as soon as she reaches her, the bohemian quicklywraps her arms around her waist, red lips forming a wide grin as sheshouts, “ pookie !! you’re here !! ”
of course the first thing joanne did was get a job. sure it was low paying and back breaking but, it was income. and with no home or family in sight, that was all joanne could ask for. she’d been here only a week, learning to make coffee and wait tables for the very first time. miss ivy league really got a downgrade. not that she minded. it was quiet, here. no drama in sight. she could finally relax for a while.
sure, she missed maureen. a lot, actually. but all she could hope for was her to pop up one way or another. and oh boy, did she.
after the daily rush, she found herself rushing to clean the coffee machines, just in case things roar up again. but as a shrill voice fills the room, joanne can’t help but drop everything she’s holding onto. this can’t be real. but sure enough, there she was. her maureen.
“ holy shit. what are you doing here? ”
