Bed and Crik up to no good <3 I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to draw dragons, and the legendary @sebjir has some sick dragon designs. I also have some old sketches, and then draft sketches for this:

I didn't colour code them but all four boys are above, but they're old sketches.

My way of drawing them didn't change much haha. I drew above days ago and finally finished the digital piece.

Another Bed-dragon! This time a digital one! My first attempt at scales was so bad that I actually had to undo them then try again! This painting was a lot of fun though! Hope you like this fanart of your Sideshow Dragon AU, @neglected-sadist <3 Your AU fills me with life and so does your art!

Sinister in Purple

So I finally painted another dragon boy! And let me tell you, this beast of a boy took me a lot longer than the last one! But I enjoyed my many nights spent trying to work out how to even accurately get the design right (I gave up in some places but overall I think this looks super cool). I also don’t know how blood even works, which is a description of all my art knowledge at this point XD

I’m still adoring your Sideshow Dragon AU, @neglected-sadist, and can’t wait to see more of your art in the future (not just of this AU, ‘cause all your art is fantastic).

A more in-depth long post and recount about my sea serpent box, with process photos and notes.

The brief from my dad was to make a visually eye-catching painting on this giant metal box. And of course, I went with a sea serpent. Only the lid, and two faces of the box would be visible, so that’s what I had to take into account.

We painted the base with white paint (not acrylic, but a paint for steel) first, then I had to plan my design for the sea serpent. That can be very time consuming, but I drew a bunch of designs and finally settled on one.

Next, I planned the size of my sea serpent with string as a guide. I recommend this for big pieces. After that, I sketched my design around the string with whiteboard marker so it’d be easy to erase/cover with paint. And I took off the string.

I painted the box faces and lid with acrylic blue paint as my paint base. Layer after layer. Then I was finally able to get started on painting the sea serpent.

And after many many days of layering and shading and highlighting over and over, I finally finished my sea serpent box. It’s vibrant and colourful, and I love it.

I was asked by my dad to paint this box, and I decided to go with a sea serpent, and to make it very vibrant and eye-catching.

I tried to show the metallic paint outline, and here are some concept sketches, and when I used string to figure out how big I wanted the dragon to be.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this blog, but I painted this months ago for my dad. Unfortunately it wasn’t a surprise because he snuck up on me when I was painting it and gave me critique (not knowing it was his own gift). I’ll be putting this on my Redbubble (bio) and I’m sure it’d make a lovely postcard or sticker design.

Design notes:

When drawing up my concepts for this piece, I sneakily asked my dad what colours would be cool for a dragon and he said he liked Smaug from the Hobbit, so I went with gold, yellows and oranges. In real life you can see a golden outline around the dragon from metallic paint. Though this specific dragon isn’t my interpretation of Smaug.

I wanted to draw a castle in the background but due to time constraints I left the background as it was. And to make the background, I put a bunch of browns and reds on the canvas and mixed them around and I like the outcome.

A general tip I have when figuring out how big you want your dragon to be is to use string to give you a visual guide, as personally I’m bad at scaling things and I’m more of a digital artist, so while I can easily change the size of things digitally, traditionally it’s harder to fix sizing mistakes.

My dad has this painting hung up in his room, and it has my signature on the back :D

So I'm back to adding more to this blog again! Just reblogged a bunch of Spyro (Cynder specifically) art onto here from my main art blog! I keep forgetting to take photos of my latest original dragon pieces to post here haha. I did paint a cool piece! I am considering reblogging other peoples' dragon art eventually, but I still have a backlog of my own things I want to post. There's never enough dragon blogs or art in the world ;D
