*Well, there's a door here. Seems similar to the ones that have been appearing lately. It looks oddly fancy in an inexplicable way... There's a strange dial on the door that can't be adjusted, which is currently blank. There's a note on the door.
The note reads "This Door Connects With Any Of The Various Timelines I Have Connected To My Garden. Right Now, It Is Set To Pull Through Whoever Is Closest When It Opens. I Have Added A Dial To The Door To Indicate If A Person Is Their Timelines Equivalent Of Myself Or Kishar - Indicated By Cyan - Utur, - Indicated By Yellow - Alam - Indicated By Magenta - Or If They Are Someone Specific To Their Timeline - Indicated By Green. Caution; Not Everyone Is Friendly. Should You Wish To Remove Someone Back To Their Original Timeline, Just Call My Name. Try Not To Cause Too Much Trouble. - Persephone."
The note is written in a slightly-glowing cyan ink on black paper. It smells oddly of roses.*
*Gary approaches this door. It had felt the others, but this one seemed much more deliberate. And, it admitted, hosted people it suspected it would be more interested in. It opens it, and waits*
The dial turns to magenta, and a small, grey naga flops out. They have a few spines, and more eyes than is frankly necessary. Their arms and tail also have fins, making them look almost like an eel in places. Their hair is fluffy and grey, and they have a tiny shirt on that says "If Found, Return To Echo" on it. They seem to be giving off odd vibes, somewhere between somewhat adult and eldritch child; It definitely seems like this is an ex-human who completely gave up on their humanity when they became eldritch, and judging from the scarring along their tail, it wasn't by choice.
They look up at Gary, curiosity visible in their multiple eyes, but nervousness clear too. "Um, hi? Uh, you feel kind of like Echo. Do you know them?"
*It tilts its head, stardust swirling in blue and orange*
That is... complicated, actually. I have never met them in person, as I cannot go to where they are. But I know those who know a person by that Name.
I believe that your Echo is your timeline's version of My Baby, but I may be mistaken.
"You have a baby? Echo is not a baby! Echo says I kinda seem like a baby but I am not supposed to be. But I do not remember being different so they told me not to worry about it." The little naga rambles, slightly nervous but more comfortable than before.
I call them that, but they have grown up. *It smiles, and the blue stardust blooms across its neck* Truly, they are not a baby anymore. And Echo is right, you are like babies in some ways but unlike them in others.
"Mmm." They nod, then pause. "Oh, I should say who I am I think. Echo says that is how meeting people works. I only figured out how, um, talking and stuff properly works recently." They wiggle a little, tail curling around a bit as they stablise themself.
"I am Aisha! Both she and he work, I dunno if one fits better or not but I know they does not. I tried it and it felt funny."
Ah, yes. of course. That is a very good name, Aisha fondness. I am called Gary, and I use it exclusively. Neither he nor she nor they nor any other thing feel quite right for my nature.
"Oh, that is cool!" Aisha grins. "Oh, I also call myself Henny sometimes, but that is a nickname and not my name name. Echo uses it and they if you did not know!" He seems a bit more comfortable now. He's clearly used to mostly communicating the eldritch way, and the feelings of fondness are responded to with curiosity and childlike trust.
I see. I shall have to remember that, then. *It makes a sound that feels like someone playfully ruffling your hair* Do you have a favorite game? Perhaps we could play for a time.
"Um, um, um... I like climbing! Echo does not understand why I like climbing so much when I know how to float and stuff but it is just different! I like to dig holes too!" Aisha sounds quite excited, honestly.
Hmm. I also do not understand the appeal of climbing, but then I rarely let my feet touch the ground. Digging Holes could be arranged, however.
*It reaches a hand into a portal, and pulls out a children's bucket-and-shovel set, meant for use on the beach*
Oh we do not have sand right here. And we probably should not let you get too far from the door.
"Oh, right. I get lost very easily! I should not wander." Her voice is quite matter of fact, nodding agreeably. "One time I got lost so bad I just ended up yelling until Echo found me! They were not pleased about that."
I am never lost, myself. But, Echo may come looking for you eventually, and would be worried if you were not here.
*It frowns for a few moments, and then shrugs*
You may as well take this anyway. Perhaps you can use it when you go home.
*It hands over the bucket*
"Thank you!" He accepts the bucket happily. She's very small, so it's comically large compared to her, but she clearly has no issues holding it. "This will come in useful for moving sand and also probably dirt! I think dirt and sand work similarly but I have not tested it yet."
It depends on the composition of the dirt, but yes they should be similar. *Gary nods solemnly* And moving such things is what that is designed for.
"Sounds good! I wanna make a den underground but I gotta find a reaaaally good spot or someone might trip on it and ruin it which would suck." Aisha seems quite excited about his den plans.
It would indeed. What do you think would make for a good spot?
"Hmm..." Aisha hums. "Maybe near the doors so I do not get lost? But not too near. A little bit away?" He tilts his head. Her tail flicks slightly as she thinks. "But maybe that would be too obvious..."
So long as you disguise the entrance, it should be fine? And, you are small. So you can make the doorway small, also.
"Oh! You are right!" They nod eagerly. "I had not thought of that! Thank you!"
*It smiles, and yellow swirls over its shoulders.*
You are Welcome. But, if you do make it small, it may be difficult to invite friends inside, if that was part of your plans...
"I do not know enough people to have friends yet!" Aisha announces. "So I can solve that problem later!"
I see. What were you planning to do in your den, then, Little One?
"Nap when I wanna be alone! And also look at things. I like watching people! People are interesting. I like them!" He nods, sagely. "I wanna learn how to be a people."
I have studied extensively on that subject myself. It is all very complicated, but that is Why they are so interesting to watch...
"Mhm!" She nods again, excitedly. "I like people a lot! Echo says I gotta be careful though. Some get angry really easily or startled. I gotta stay safe."
Aisha pauses for a moment. "I think I am younger than they think I should be because they worry a lot about me but sometimes confuse themself about what I can and cannot do. I dunno how old I am or how old I am supposed to be. I try to remember sometimes but I remember things I wanna stay forgotten so I forget again as fast as I can."
Her explanation is a little crude, but... well, most versions of Alam are at least eldritch adults. Aisha absolutely doesn't register as one, not fully. They feel more like an eldritch child, or at least an older teen who's allowed themself to return to a more childish state of mind.
Yes, you feel like you might have gotten younger at some point, instead of older. It happens with us, sometimes...
But it is a good thing! Growing up again can help you to feel better about whatever those scary memories are, once you have lots and lots more good ones instead.
"Mmhm." Aisha nods. "I do not like the scary memories. Some of them are clear and some of them are not. One of them burns when I think about it and I have to go sit in the sink for a few hours."
I would recommend not thinking about it then, unless you Really Really need to.
You know... I have mentioned, that you crossed that door into a different timeline? There is someone here who I think may be a version of you. Only She stayed a grown-up and didn't forget the scary memories. And he was really mean for a while, and was very sad about it later. So, if you ever do remember them... You'll probably be scared and maybe angry, but try not to hurt people who weren't mean to you first. That never ends well for anyone.
"I can try. I do not like thinking about it anyway so I think I will be able to manage."
Aisha yawns softly, and rubs his eyes. She looks sleepy.
Good. Would you like to go back home now, or would you prefer to take a nap here?
"I think I gotta go home. Echo will be worried about me." Aisha yawns again. "It was nice talking to you though!"
It was also nice to speak with you. You are welcome to come back, whenever you wish it.
Now let us get you back to Echo.
*It ushers her towards the door*
*Well, there's a door here. Seems similar to the ones that have been appearing lately. It looks oddly fancy in an inexplicable way... There's a strange dial on the door that can't be adjusted, which is currently blank. There's a note on the door.
