I'm not a mecha person, but spirits above help me if I don't love seeing mechs with very mundane jobs. Seeing something that would be a battlefield weapon loading luggage at the airport scratches such a weird itch in my brain.

Like just imagine watching someone do those classic suiting up scenes, with the epic music and visuals as they zip on theor plug suit and connect their neural hemets and telepresence fists....and then start going to town on some industrial roof repair or haybale collection, not a care in the world about cybernetics eating their souls and personality but rather about if they'll get to lunch early enough for the good pizza

Naturally it's piloted by an anime girl with bright hair an unnatural color and a flight-suit that's unnecessarily tight and possibly a jacket that doesn't quite reach her waist. She dons her helmet with the built-in HUD and plugs in to the interface, and her mech stomps it's way into a neighborhood. It looms ominously over the houses. Then it leans down, picks up a recycling bin, dumps it into the previously unseen bin on its back. It sets the bin back down and continues down the street.

While they are distracted with their duties, a mysterious masked pilot stalks them in their blind spot. Silently, they raise a massive Power-gun at the protagonists mech and blasts them… with the high-pressure industrial washer spray, telling them off for not cleaning up their mech and the storage bays after their shifts

Exactly this! Like the characters can make throw away references to mechsploitation genre and its tropes but the focus of the story is always on the shenanigans they get up to doing their jobs in mech.

Like the forklift girl commenting that the latest health and safety inspector looks like their old battlefield handler but the focus on the episode is about them trying to repair their out of date mech

Hiya, Jackie here again! Post 2/2:

This time it's some neat props I wanted to take a stab at. I liked the idea of redesigning some things like hyposprays and tricorders to fit the needs of our ship, and also to help me and Nick better describe items when we write so it feels more grounded. My wheelhouse is usually in storyboarding and character drawing, so I was very pleasantly surprised at how satisfying the process of turning objects around in my brain is for me now, as well as trying to design around function. Props are something I used to struggle with it a lot, so I'm really happy with how these turned out. *Also, just noting that I did not illustrate the screen displays- I've yet to wrap my head around how to design and customize LCARS UI displays, so everything here is illustrated by me except the content on the screens. Those images, I pulled from lcars.org.uk [please note this website has great resources, but is a bit old and is therefore not quite secure. Some pages will give you a popup to download the images displayed as soon as you click, which I recommend you deny. After that you should be free to scroll the page without any further prompting]

Anyways, please enjoy some USS Menippe specific tools and hopefully I'll have more time in the coming months to work on some more. 🖖

I have a voice acting question. Do you think voice actors should get paid more if they're role requires them to sing?

I've been saying to my friends for the past few weeks that they should be paid more if they have to sing for a role, and they agree. But I wanted your opinion on it too since you're a more experienced voice actor than I am.

Considering singing is an entirely different skill set, yes they should be paid more

Like there is something funny about two talents requiring your vocals do have different needs and practices you must do in order to get better at them.

And then I have to remind myself that writing and drawing require your hands but also are VERY different art forms.
