When Hallie cupped her face, the red head looked away, almost ashamed - but of herself. “I-I’m not wearing any makeup..” Sure, she may of met Hallie after a long and emotional battle with anorexia, but that feeling never seemed to entirely go away. The feeling of not being beautiful. And now Hallie was up close, seeing her hair pulled back modestly and no makeup. “Thank-you…” How did she get so lucky as to have someone so understanding in her life? “I- I’ll have Scarlett up soon. And.. you can meet her. As.. as my girlfriend. If.. if you’re still that after this weekend..” It was a genuine concern she had.
By the time her parents arrived, Gemini practically paced a hole in the floor, literally jumping when the door finally went. She was embarrassed to even be wearing the clothes she was in front of Hallie. Taking a breath, she headed to the door, changing her mind and walking back to Hallie - wrapping her arms around her neck, and kissing her deeply. “Maybe now isn’t the right time, I just..” The doorbell went again, and she cringed before looking Hallie in the eyes. “I love you, Hallie.. I’m in love with you..” She kissed Hallie’s cheek, too scared to wait for much of an answer. Truthfully, she only finally told her the truth, because she was half sure she was about to lose her.
Opening the door, she put on the biggest, fake smile she could manage. “I’ve missed you both dearly.” She hugged her mother tightly, and then her father, kissing his cheek. “God bless you both. I have dinner almost ready.” She actually was about to pull off a frozen pot pie as her own, but they’d never know the difference. “This is my friend, Hallie. I met her while volunteering with the church.” Turning her back to her parents, she bit her lip, giving Hallie an apologetic look; and mouthed ‘I panicked..’
“Your skirts are getting a little short, Gemini. You should have more respect for yourself. No man is going to even look at you if you continue potraying yourself as a harlet.” The skirt went to her knees, and not past her knees; which was the problem.
“Yes, mother. I’ll be sure to ask forgiveness in my prayers tonight. I hope you’re both hungry. How is everyone at the church, Sir?” She was doing a decent job at pretending, but she was sure Hallie noticed how miserable she actually was. Honestly, sometimes she wondered why she tried so hard.
“Dinner sounds good. We’re surprised you had time from that..job of yours, to cook. But it smells delicious.” Her mother. She set the table, her father at the head, and served. And then lead prayer when her mother asked, before eating.
“Actually, Gemini, we’re here for a reason. Your mother and I have been talking, and we’ve decided this.. relationship with God kind of life is an excuse. You either need to join the church as a nun and cement your commitment, or settle down.” Gemini’s face was pale. “You remember Jonah, correct? The alter boy? He’s stayed true to the path of God, and has agreed to take your hand in marriage. You’ll have the rest of the month to settle things here. But then you’ll be coming back home with us. It’s about time you marry and have kids. And stop this working nonsense. Jonah will take very good care of you.”
Tears swelled in her eyes, and her mouth hung open a little - in which she was scolded for. In her head, she was screaming at them that there was no chance in hell she’d go back with them and marry someone of their choosing. Someone who probably expected her to stay at home, too. And then she did what Gemini did best - she began organizing things on the table in front of her perfectly. “I-I don’t..understand. I- why are you- please don’t- I’m happy here, Father.” For the first time, she looked at Hallie, because Hallie always seemed to calm her mind.
Hallie noticed the way her girlfriend looked away from her and she knew that she was kind of ashamed by the way she looked, only for the fact this was the first time she had seen her like this and then her words confirmed it which caused Hallie to gently run her thumbs across her cheek. "That doesn't matter, you still look as beautiful as ever," she nodded her head as the smile grew a tiny bit, just to let her know what she meant every word of it. As she was thanked, Hallie shook her head. "No, need to thank me, Babe," she assured. "I'd like that," she confirmed, letting Gemini know that whatever happened, she'd still be her girlfriend after this weekend.
After gathering up the dogs and whatever else Gemini wanted to give her for the time being, she took them over to her house. As expected Leah wasn't really that thrilled with the dogs, but who was she to turn away an animal and Taylor, who had just arrived was practically ecstatic to see them. Laughing to herself, she settled the dogs down with Taylor and then went to her room to change into something a little more modest before making her way pack to Gemini's place.
Tilting her head to the side, her gaze trailed back and forth as Gemini paced the room waiting for her parents arrival and although she wanted to tell her to stop and calm down, she thought better of it and let her do her thing, it was hopefully helping her prepare for whatever was to come and then the doorbell rang and her eyes instantly darted into it direction, waiting for her girlfriend to open it, but suddenly she was being pulled into a kiss and she didn't hesitate in kissing her back as her hand gently gripped the side of her waist. As the kiss ended and she spoke, a small chuckle left Hallie as she shook her head, though the next things out of her girlfriend's mouth literally left her speechless as her eyes widened a little. She didn't even have any time to reply to it, because Gemini was then moving to open the door.
As it did open, Hallie finally came back to earth as she moved her hand to run through her hair and then shifted on the spot to stand a little straighter. Smiling as the other woman began to introduce her, she couldn't help the way her brows furrowed when she mentioned where they had "met," but she quickly smiled a little bigger to not draw attention to the fact that that was a lie. "Good evening, Ma'am," she nodded to her mother. "and Sir," she nodded to her father in greeting before looking back to Gemini and shrugging her shoulders. 'Don't worry,' she mouthed back in return as Gemini's mother began to talk and it took everything in her to not say anything about what had been said, especially at Gemini's response.
Everything for the time being seemed to be going well, but then the reason as to why her parents showed up in the first place started to come to light and she had to literally bite her tongue as her jaw clenched, wanting nothing more to say that their little girl had already found someone and that someone was her, but she wasn't about to out her girlfriend to her very religious parents, so she stayed quiet, minding her own business, but feeling her jaw clenching a little more as each thing was said and by the time Gemini was speaking, she was practically glaring at her plate, noticing her girlfriend turn her gaze to her, she looked over, her face instantly softening as she cleared her throat a little. "She been doing very well here, Sir and with all do respect, this is her life after all, I don't think she has to be told what to do," she couldn't help but say and the minute it left her mouth, she knew it was probably the wrong thing to say, but she didn't really know what else there really was to say, maybe she should have just kept her mouth shut.
