you're figuring out a lot at the moment.
under the hotel room's neon lights, you're trying to remember if you packed your fuzzy pink socks. you're unsure if the television behind the two of you worked and you're trying to piece in your mind in what moment of the night - you fell in love with tara.
it's one of those rare missions that you're not paired off with xavier. tara and you were pitched together for the first time in a long time. you couldn't say no. you wouldn't say no. so you were swept to a city with flashy lights. heartbreaker seemed to have some loose ends here that jenna needed checked. it was nothing but a routine check; yet the neon lights and alcoholic drinks are so sweet that you're swept with emotions.
tara has matching socks. she has her yellow tube socks on and she's dancing to the song that's overheard from the room over. you're aware that you're drunk. you're aware that the two of you took the trip a little too loose - but,
has tara always looked this pretty?
her eyes are brown, that's what you'd answer if anybody ask. when you were alone with your diary; you'd describe her as honey. tara is sunlight and you want to surround her. constantly. you're staring at her and your heart wants to dance with hers.
her hands are in the air and the two of you, for a brief second, make eye contact.
is your heart aware? why does it want her so bad?
you can’t help but look away. your eyes are on your hands and you can’t help but frown. you're always pulling back. you're always afraid. you're always holding back. you're so afraid. you're so afraid of loving freely. you're so afraid of ruining everything between tara and you. she's your best friend. she's the constant in this messy world. through the memories and visions; confusions - she's the only thing that's honest.
you've had enough.
you stand and she's smiling widely at you.
"do you want to dance with me?"
your fingers lace easily. tara has soft hands, her nails are always so pretty; yet she has tiny papercuts. you assume she's clumsy with her hands. odd since she does tarot cards. where did this girl come from? why do you feel so easy when you're with her? you can't help but spin her. there's a giggle leaving her mouth.
"what are you thinking about?" tara asks, "you look happy."
"i'm thinking about you."

"can you say it again, please?"
the lights are low. you're in tara's bed and your heart can't stop pounding. you're sure that you're drunk. love drunk. that's the only thing that can describe it. tara and you are laying in the same bed; staring at each other - her fingers playing with yours. your tube socks are linked together and you've never felt so happy. you've never felt so light.
"i'm thinking about you." you say quietly, shyly.
tara smiles softly, "well, are you?"
you nod and she's instantly wrapping her arms around you.
so embarrassing to watch yourself become obsessed with a character that feels tailor made for you specifically to become obsessed with. feels like i fell into a trap made just for me. like damn they got me. those are all the things i like and go crazy for

"so... let's see if i understand. for this assignment... you just have to take random photos?" sylus question crackles through the phone.
it's an innocent question. you know that sylus would kneel infront of you if he accidentally bruised your feelings. the assignment was... well. exactly that. your professor had mentioned finding beauty in the mundane things. you could understand why sylus couldn't exactly grasp the excitement, especially when he was barely awake at 3pm. your baby crow wasn't exactly a fan of bright early afternoons.
"i do. beauty in routine or beauty in mundane. i don't remember, i was too excited thinking about the assignment." you grow quieter and a whisper for only him. "i like it. it's made me rethink a lot of things."
you couldn't tell him your thoughts. not yet... but they bounced in your head. you had been doing some thinking and maybe your time has a hunter has come up. you enjoyed your co-workers but you didn't enjoy the array of nightmares at times. you enjoyed helping children and everything in need; but where does that leave you? where does your hunger quiet? you're tired and scared. you just want to start over. you had quietly branched out, fear fear fear and you stumbled across a photography class,
you were absolutely sold. this was for you.
what a divine thing to be able to capture a moment forever. a picture that lives on an office desk and a baby's nursery. mayhaps every single photographer said that, but it was the honest truth. what a beautiful thing to be trusted. you still found bruises on your elbows due to uncomfortable angles but the grin on your face is enough for sylus to trust you.
(truth be told, he had an inkling you were doing something and was tempted to send mephisto. he was extremely tempted. however, he had to trust you. you were doing something big and you'd tell him when you were ready. you had the same look in your eye as him when he wanted something. the same damn look when he had made a decision and nobody was going to change his mind. he was extremely grateful it was a photography class because he was this close to talking to your little coworker. you can't sue a man for being a little in love.)
"what do you want to take photos of?"
"i don't know. everything?"
"let's take photos tonight." he mews and you snort.
"tonight? i can't. i have work tomorrow."
"aren't you a photographer now?" he says and your heart flutters with softness. your finger curling pink locks and you're a mess of red. only sylus could fluster you with such a silly thing.
you can't help the giggle that leaves your mouth and sylus truthfully chose the wrong moment to say that. you hated how you couldn't see his face through the call. he was so charming. god, you could imagine his stupid little smirk. "sylus, i just took a few classes. let me be good first."
sylus' heart is absolutely warm. he had never heard you talk about something so lovingly. sure, you were proud of being a hunter. but through the line, on his phone - he can hear your smile and he's absolutely smitten. he sits straight and he aches. god, he wishes that he could see your face. were you red? were your pretty eyes glowing in excitement?
"how about tomorrow night? you can take a photo of mephisto?"
"absolutely not." you instantly pan.
"are you still afraid of him? he's your friend, you know."
you quietly mumble. the nerve of this guy. first he flusters you and then he talks about your fears. what a way with words. you liked him so much. you truly did. "we can talk about my fear of birds another day."
that's what makes him laugh. whole heartedly.
but what makes him freeze,
is soft pink hair in the night. there's a camera lense on him and he's absolutely frozen in place.
sylus was confident. he was onychinus royalty, you knew that. but you also couldn't help but see him so gentle. you couldn't help but see the pink of his nose and the excitement of his eyes with the flicking lights.
the two of you were at a fair. a silly surprise that could only pop up on linkon city in the beginning of june. the both of you had laughed and ate more than you rode anything and now, you're holding your camera up to
him.
"you're taking a photo of me?" he asks, so softly. it's almost surprising that you heard the words that leave sylus' mouth and soon,
you're looking for the best angle and trying to get the light right. the way that sylus' hair glints in the night is something you need forever. "why wouldn't i? i said i'd take photos of everything i found beautiful."
sylus had never thought of himself as beautiful.
so he laughs, as he always does.
but in your photo, there's pink in his cheeks and you've never seen him look so free.
just like everyone else i am now obsesseddddd with paralives lol!! i love the graphics, but i also wanted to use g-shade, which led me to make my own preset to work with the game!! i've been really enjoying it so i wanted to share in case anyone else is looking for one
very contrasty and vibrant but also soft with a lot of glow (which i tried to tone down the brightness just enough so you can still read the ui as seen above but still might be kinda difficult at times!!) with hotkeys for some of the effects, caps lock for cinematic DOF unless you change it c:
