October 23rd is SUDEP Awareness Day. SUDEP stands for Sudden Unexplained Death in a Person with Epilepsy. Each year, more than 1 in 1,000 people will die from SUDEP. In uncontrollable seizures, the rate goes up to 1 in 150. It occurs more frequently in adults than in children. Recently, my niece's closest friend died from SUDEP and his epilepsy was uncontrollable. It's important to raise awareness about it.
