Rhaenyra’s first day as Queen sees her dealing with rats of the 2 and 4 legged variety, no gold, no Queensguard, no Small Council and demands from every angle. As well as managing having her half sister and former step mother hostages instead of letting them go free to raise chickens somewhere.
Daemon and Mysaria are bickering about how to deal with the small folk, she wants to champion them whereas he wants to leave them to it.
Ormund Hightower bent the knee and surrendered “Daeron” to Daemon but that was obviously a ruse.
Rhaenyra and Daemon knight the dragonseeds and continue to be baffled by Ulf’s ignorance and delusions of grandeur. She names Addam, Ser Addam of Hull in spite of Corlys’s reveal that he and Alyn are his natural sons that he wants legitimised.
Daemon is reaching for the stars without being mindful of the ground he stands on. He thinks because they have twice as many dragons as the conqueror that they can conquer the world. Rhaenyra rightfully has her head screwed on and points out that they can barely govern one city let alone the rest of Westeros without trying to add Dorne and the Free Cities to his imagined empire. He takes off for the Vale in a huff and reminds her she needs to kill Daeron.
Corlys is being a little bitch because he’s not getting his own way because he told Rhaenyra that he has named Alyn as his heir and wants both sons legitimised as Velaryons. As Hand of the Queen he wasn’t much help dealing with petitions or giving advice on how to deal with their mountain of problems and then he accosts Rhaenyra in public, shouting that Jace lived and died a bastard. Like who does he think he is? And funny how he did all that when Daemon had already left the city.
Rhaenyra and Mysaria go out to the city to distribute the food the gold cloaks got from the noble’s houses when Rhaenyra threw her rat banquet. I actually laughed at that, she got rid of the rat problem and humbled the lickspittle lords and ladies in one go, “we’re being robbed.” Ser Torrhen was amused, the first Manderly that has appeared in any GoT show.
Baela is being used as an errand girl instead of a member of the royal family. Sent to scout here and there looking for Aemond and Vaghar as well as Sheepstealer and the mystery rider. At least Addam is going with her on the next trip. Wish we could see Daemon remembering that he is the father to Baela and Rhaena and actually speak to them for once.
Rhaenyra is choosing to show mercy to her half brother. She tells Alicent that she has Daeron and is going to send him to the Wall but will let her see him first. That’s strange that Alicent said he was sent to Oldtown as an infant and she’s only seen him once in the last five years. As soon as Alicent sees him, Rhaenyra can tell from the look on her face she has been played by Ormund Hightower.
A dragonkeeper arrives with news that Lord Ormund has taken Tumbleton with his army and Tessarion the Blue Queen along with Prince Daeron. The people are hostages and the dragonkeeper was the only escapee.
So now Rhaenyra has to choose between torching Tumbleton and the innocents within or letting Ormund keep the city and have everyone know he played her for a fool.
