I’ve decide to try to do quilted banners without using any patterns! The stars are a bit wonky but i’m satisfied with the result. The dog are all hand sewn little pieces of felt!

im so exhausted but i finished my bio, my cv, and artist statement. now i just wait to see if my fancy new pics will come in time and measure all my pieces that im missing measurements for in the morning. ill probably go ahead and submit with the old pics and put a note that if theres a newer submission by the time he goes to turn it in to the school to use that one instead

i showed my department head one of my weavings over the summer and mentioned I’d gotten a loom and she was like “oh so is weaving your Thing now?” and i tried to explain that no, the loom just kinda fell into my lap and I had been trying not to get invested before because I didn’t know when I’d be able to weave again after graduation and she kinda gave me a Look. now its almost a year later and I’m compiling my graduation portfolio and its 50% weaving and i have to concede that yes, weaving may in fact be a pretty prominent Thing for me

my professor reserved a studio for critique so we could take good pics of our work but someone left their stuff on the walls so we couldn’t do that :(

we just have a corkboard out in the hall outside the studio so i hung some white fabric my friend had on it to take my portfolio pics. i really hope they turn out well because my professor said they have to be “professionally photographed” and i don’t have that kind of money

this weekend my goal is to finish my artist statement and portfolio packet for school and get my website updated. I have a couple more photos to edit and then I can post the finished quilt. Critique for weaving class is Monday and we’re having it in one of the critique studios instead of the hallway so we’ll be able to get nicer photos than normal. Then I have a photoshoot for some of my other work thats harder to photograph next weekend. all of that is to say I should have a fully updated website and a backlog of work I’ll be slowly posting here and hopefully soon on instagram as well.

Surprise bonus weaving! I had about two yards of warp left on my loom when I cut off the scarf so I cut it off in front of the reed so I could tie back on and make use of the last of this hand dyed warp. I only had about an hour to work so I used some lace and satin ribbon instead of yarn so it would work up quickly. I really like the way this turned out because the very thick weft allows the weave structure and the design I drafted to be even more visible than normal, and it even somehow still has an iridescent effect despite the ratio of visible warp to weft being so massive.
