The daily lives of mother and son...
Getting it all set up…! We’re just about there!!! FINALLY! I’ll start posting the first few pages soon!! So Excited… I’ve been wanting to do this comic for years now!!
An absolutely stunning Spearhead with cut and engraved bronze latice-work through the center, Germany, ca. 1474, housed at the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
Thinking about how based on stuff said in the campaign wrap and Talks Machina, if things had gone down differently it would have been so easy for any or all of the Mighty Nein to have a bad ending. Which makes how things did turn out even more insane.
Fjord? If he'd been able to keep things under wraps, he wouldn't have thought twice about releasing Uk'otoa, and still considered it later as a way to get his powers back.
Veth? If it hadn't been possible to change her back from a goblin, she would have fallen further and further into that mindset and possibly have forgotten her entire family.
Caleb? If they had gone to Rexxentrum earlier, or encountered Trent and the volstrucker earlier, he could have regressed and fallen back into the lifestyle he'd tried so hard to escape.
These three are probably the most blatant, but everyone has a possible bad end from things going different. Yasha could have stayed trapped by Obann. Lucien could have stayed in control and permanent ownership of that body with all the bad consequences of that. Caduceus could have lost his family and the Blooming Grove could have been taken over, lost forever. Essek could have stayed unreached, unremorseful and consequences still bearing down on him. Beau could have been brought back down low by her family, or even may have taken the deal from Isharnai. Jester very easily could have been sent into slavery by the Gentleman, have had things go wrong with Artagan.
But, somehow, amazingly, that's not how it goes for any of them.
Fjord is given a way out by the Wild Mother and is finally able to accept himself and move forward.
Veth gets her own body back, is reunited with her family, and has new found confidence that she didn't before.
Caleb's found family keeps him grounded, he's able to take down his abuser, and he's finally able to move on.
Yasha is freed from Obann and is able to find love, find peace and contentment in her own life.
Kingsley is able to live free of an unknown past bearing down on him, surrounded by people who love him.
Caduceus saves both his family and the Blooming Grove, with new bonds that will last a lifetime.
Essek has a new start, a new family, and a chance at a future he thought he'd never have.
Beau has people who value her, who love her, and a career where she is immensely respected and able to effect real change - including helping to bring down the abusers in her own life.
And Jester? She was able to find her dad, bring her parents back together, stay friends with Artagan in a good way, and find a whole new set of friends and love.
There are so many ways it could have gone wrong for one or all of them. But it didn't, and that is just... so amazing to me.

Happy Birthday Matthew Mercer! (June 29th, 1982)
Wishing an amazing day to storyteller, voice-over guy and Dungeon Master of Critical Role, Matt Mercer. Thank you for sharing your fantasy world and giving us life changing characters.
When it hits you, that raising a shape-shifting baby of a different species might not be as easy as you thought
vs
When you find out that your new child is the coolest baby you’ve ever held
idk it was funnier in my head
After a long hiatus, “Audrey & Azimuth” are finally returning with a new chapter. Now that their first night together is over, what will happen next? Tune in on September 30th to find out!

Gouyen (c.1857-1903): Wise Woman of the Apache
Footnotes and citations available in the footnotes on the main site: click here.
Thanks to the Mescalero Apache Tribe for looking over the entry and okaying it for online publication.
If you’re interested in the book, I put up a ton of details about it here, and you can preorder online here.
Next entry, something less grim and gritty. More details behind the cut.
Thought I’d add some reference pictures used in the creation of this entry (this is the only reblog I’ll do for the full thing). First, we have Gouyen in later life, after she remarried and had a family:
Next, what I based her ceremonial outfit on:
And her regular wear:
Chief Quanah Parker, visual reference for the Comanche chief:
The Comanche knife:
And the dancers:
Sometimes when you are in a relationship you may look at your partner (perhaps they are sleeping, or doing something particularly sweet and vulnerable) and you ask yourself “what would I do if anyone hurt them?” - and your heart just roars in response. The answer can be worrying or surprising or frightening.
And here you know that if your heart answered chirpily, “If anyone hurt my partner, I would honestly kill them with my bare fucking teeth,” then there is a woman in history who shared this thought with you.
And she did it. She straight-up killed someone with her bare fucking teeth. She went into that place, the place people are a little afraid of.
Maybe you don’t share much with other Disney princesses or heroes, but if you’ve ever had that thought, you share it with her.
