ooc- Leaving Ponynet

I apologize if I’ve confused anybody on the Ponynet server I founded by abruptly handing it over to someone else and leaving. I suppose I can give a bit of an explanation for why I was dissatisfied with the direction the Ponynet server went and why it stopped being fun for me to run and participate in.

When I began the server I had a simple idea. A discord server for our characters to chat IC. Keep it simple. Somewhere they could go to shoot the breeze about Equestrian life and such. With a few exceptions it should be relatively drama-free. It was never intended to be a server for story rp’s.

However, story rp’s, a kind of hybrid of script writing rp’ing and chatting began to happen and that became the norm. Not only were the subject matters dark and heavy and intimidating for people not in the loop when it came to getting involved later on, but it also disobeyed my request that it stop happening. I asked a few times to keep it at a minimum or keep just not do it but it became the standard.

I have nothing against this kind of rp but it never seemed to occur to anyone to just make their own server for this new hybrid kind of rp instead of compromising my original vision of Ponynet. So I felt a little spat on continuously and when I tried to brainstorm ideas of how to get the wider majority of people involved I felt backed in a corner. I don’t believe anyone did that to me on purpose. And I don’t believe anyone had malicious intent. And there’s a reason I handed it over instead of deleting it. I want people to take it and make what they will out of it. But it is no longer what I envisioned and no longer fun for me because it’s not the relaxing environment I had intended it to be.

Maybe some day I’ll have Starlight try to open Ponynet Redux or something but not anytime soon and if I do I’ll have to be stricter about what I want, I suppose. I am glad people have gotten enjoyment out of it and can make it into something fun though.
