“……”
“Alright fine, just this once. But we never speak of it again.”
“Ahahaha, of course!”
Starlite cracked a nervous smile and extended a hand. Diamonds, what was she thinking---
@jargoonlawyer
“Aha! If we combine our gems, we’ll be green and avoid this pinchfest!”
jargoonlawyer:
“……!”
“One Pearl’s testimony isn’t conclusive evidence, Zircon! This…is a courtroom! You need evidence! You need an argument!”
“Evidence? What more evidence do you need? This pearl is Pink Diamond’s pearl and only a diamond could’ve orchestrated the shattering! Such as Pink Diamond herself!”

jargoonlawyer:
“You – you just wait one second! You can’t just…you can’t just go and say something like that and change the subject! You’re always thinking!”
“Besides, it’s not like I’d trust you to get us out of this. You obviously need my help.” The problem was, she wasn’t exactly sure what to do yet. They could try and clear up the ‘contradiction’ Starlite found, at least with their Diamonds, but she perfectly well that Yellow Diamond was not interested in anything but an end the the trial. Blue Diamond, on the other hand, had seemed like she was genuinely searching for the truth. She could confirm that suspicious with her companion in a bit, but first thing was first.
“Well, you know we need all the facts before we get anything done, so out with it: what were you thinking, really?” She kept that purposefully ambiguous, both to encourage as much disclosure as possible, and (though she hated to admit it) in hopes that she might get more information on what was said earlier.
Ugh. As much as she loathed to admit it, Jargoon had a solid point. Skirting around the issue at hand was only making her look worse. Or incompetent or utterly stupid, and Jargoon was no fool. She couldn’t take back what she had said, always prone to emotional outbursts that gave her true feelings away, and perhaps in this case, her insecurities as well. She pinched the bridge of her nose, silently counting down to three. She couldn’t go on like this, flailing about, so she took the time to calm herself down. “Three things,” she began, raising up her fingers. “I was trying to get a complete acquittal for my client, I was trying to get to the bottom of this gemforsaken case, and lastly--”
She took a deep breath. This was it, the nail-biting truth. “You were absolutely right, I was trying to be the big impressive Zircon, all right? I was trying to impress you.” She averted her eyes then and tugged her collar. Her cheeks flamed and glowed at the admission.
“So yes! Yes! We almost got killed because of my fanciful ambitions! You got me!”
@jargoonlawyer: continued from x
“Wha…?” Did she just say…no. Could she? For a long moment, Jargoon just stared at the other Zircon with a mixture of confusion, disbelief, and….something else. Honestly, she was a little hurt, and she wasn’t sure why. What did she care if this stupid rookie used to have….feelings for her? Ugh, even thinking that through was so weird. But….at the same time…
Maybe it wasn’t all that stupid. There was no other Zircon she enjoyed being in court with more, and it was obvious (in retrospect), that Starlite felt the same about her, if not more so. Jargoon had always found that cute at first, but over time, she’d kind of earned her place on the other side of the platform. She really was one of the best, and she risked all of that, even despite those feelings, for some stupid case! The yellow Zircon felt her flustered expression turn into a scowl.
“I don’t know what you’re going on about, but this entire situation is your fault! You just had to take it one step too far because you just had to be the big impressive Zircon in the courtroom! YOU- I MEAN WE COULD HAVE BEEN SHATTERED!”
Regret flooded her features, mouth agape. She quickly covered her mouth rather somberly.
“...I’m sorry. What was I thinking? I wasn’t,” she whispered, voice quivering with a plethora of emotions. No. She was, of herself-- she wanted to impress her Diamond so badly, to finally crack the biggest case of the millennia-- so she could prove once and for all that she was... Worth something in the other’s eyes. She was foolish. Of course she meant something to---
“Forget I said anything. You’re right, we have bigger problems to worry about--I’ll get us out of this.” Her expression turning grave, albeit still infinitely flustered.
