The Ten Months Stage

August ll 10 month prior to their wedding

“Good morning,” A blurry Minah greeted him handing him a freshly made cup of coffee. Sungjae yawned, placing the cup down on the counter and rubbed at his eyes. “Well afternoon,” she laughed pointing towards the clock. “Drink then I will spoil your day,” she laughed.

“And how could my wonderful fiancé ruin my day?” Sungjae asked but Minah didn’t answer, instead pressing a kiss to his cheek before tapping his cup and mouthing the word drink. He pouted but his coffee addiction didn't let him protest for too long.

“So,” Sungjae asked, narrowly missing a flying watering can as he walked in. Guess it was watering day. Minah sat perched on her chaise lounge, flipping carelessly through a magazine. “How are you going to ruin my day? If this about my closest with both agreed to the 45 /55 rule and you can only reorganise it once a year,” he said.

“60/ 40 and no it’s not that,” she said with the shake of her head. “You know how much I love being engaged to you right?” she asked. He frowned at her words , his stomach dropping down as a feeling of dread washed over him. “Stop it I can already tell you are preparing for the worst,” she huffed. “Like I said I love being engaged but we need to pick a date and at least narrow down a location,” she said.

He nodded, they did. Despite Minah and Sungjae being extremely happy in their little bubble, basking in loving glow of being married. By mid August the shine of being freshly engaged had faded for other people, instead of congratulating them now they were getting asked the three, When? Where? Who? (The four W’s if you were to talk to Minah’s aunts - When? Where? Who? And What to wear?)

“So how should we do this? "she asked, leaning forward. While she sounded as confident as ever there was a look of trepidation in her eyes. By starting to plan their wedding, the safe little bubble would be put at risk. They would open themselves up for criticism and could potentially cause problems for them. There would be decisions they wouldn’t agree 100 percent on. They had grown to handle conflict but he wasn’t naïve enough to believe the added stress of a wedding. He had seen a statistic that says that 15 percent of engagements don’t end with marriage.

“I guess we start deciding things,” he said. It was really the only thing they could do. “Maybe we should narrow down a season? And from there work out the rest?” he offered.

“Winter is out,” Minah said. “I know you and you think winter means Christmas and I don’t want a Christmas themed wedding,” She said. Sungjae opened his mouth to deny her claims but now the idea was in his head a Christmas themed wedding sounded pretty cool. “No,” she said, catching on to his thoughts.

“I mean getting married at Christmas would stop anyone from forgetting our anniversary,” He joked. The watering can from earlier came flying back narrowly missing him directly but as it flew by he coped more than a few splashes. “I wasn’t talking about me obviously,” he said shaking the droplets from his hair. “We could do Spring, it would be nice.”

“It would be,” Minah agreed. “Our wedding would be nice no matter what, i am marrying you, it will be perfect,” she said with a cheesy grin.

“So we could just elope then,” Sungjae said. It was a joke but there was a small part of him that wanted to do just that. He would marry Minah anywhere any time so they could just go get married today. Maybe tomorrow he wasn’t sure the marriage register was open today.

“Tempting,” Minah hummed. “But no, if we do that I'd be widowed before I even get a chance to say Mrs Lee,” she said. Sungjae nose scrunched up “And i’d very much like to enjoy having a husband for longer than a minute,” she said. “We could do Spring, it’s the best time season to get married and obviously it would be alot easier for the bouquets and floral arrangements,” she said. Sungjae raised an eyebrow, it almost sounded like she was trying to convince herself.

“Maybe we should try to pick a location instead?” Sungjae asked. “Is there anywhere that is straight no?”

“Well -” She hummed, “Anywhere someone we know has already been married,” she said, “and London,” she whispered the last part look up at Sungjae sheepishly.

“Right, so no London, Provence or Lanai City,” Sungjae listed.

“And no Germany or Portugal in general,” Minah chimed in. “Suho would never forgive me if i stole either of his wedding countries,” she said. Suho would very much forgive Minah and instead pin everything on Sungjae if that were to happen but that wasn’t important.

“We could still do France if you want?” Sungjae suggested. “Just not Provence , though to be honest i think Jane would like it if you shared wedding locations,” he said.

“You hate France though, it is one of your few faults,” Minah said raising an eyebrow. Sungjae shrugged looking away. “Cute.” she grinned. “But no France is out as a wedding location, i know if were to even put that out there we’d lose all control of our wedding and i want this day to be about us and most importantly for us, something we both want,” she said.

“Okay, so no France in general, should we just rule out countries? I am sure there are some nice places in America but -”

“No America,” Minah said with a shake of her head.

“We could do a beach wedding? “ he suggested as Minah's nose wrinkled up.

“Beaches are for honeymoons,” she said. “Plus I am not going to ruin my wedding dress with sand,” she said.

“What about Italy? We could do Amalfi Coast?” He suggested.

“Hmm,” Minah hummed. “Maybe not the Amalfi Coast,’ she said. “How do you feel about Lake Como?” she said, her eyes twinkling.

“Sounds good to me.”

“Great, i’ll get it sorted,” Minah said, jumping up with a clap. Sungjae blinked as she left the room, well that went easier than he expected
