the dude who used ChatGPT to pass every assignment and get a degree from Columbia is a genius. anti ai nerds are more mad at him for playing the game correctly than being mad at the american university™️ for being an industry that only exists to reproduce elites and saddle millions with debt slavery under the facade of education. universities are expensive networking factories and he was right to do what he did. work smart, not hard. epic win for the deskilling of that blatant charade.
this is partially why i say the anti ai cohort is little more than a bunch of moralizing reactionaries going on hippie rants and luddite meltdowns about technology. they’re more mad at kids displacing their ability to think on a robot instead of asking why kids go to school for 7 hours, to then get saddled with 4 extra hours of homework, to then having to clock in to a terrible job in many cases, robbing them of a social life. of course the kids are gonna use the robot to claw back some free time that is stolen from them by the state and capital. why do kids have to do so much work? anyways yeah yeah blah blah the ai robot bad but the critics are asking the wrong questions and pointing fingers at the wrong subjects.
You really out here calling ppl who are worried about mass labor theft luddites and claiming it's ok to devalue the education system using large intelligence models bc it's all a scam anyway. Damn you ai devils advocate people are fucking out of your minds @pure
The ai robot isn’t stealing the workers’ labor. It’s not autonomous. It’s not alive. It’s a tool whose use-cases are definitely being overhyped—it’s not capable of replacing a human in many specialized areas as the results it spits out are woefully inadequate on its own. Despite this, technocrats are threatening to use it as a weapon to replace human workers and this threat only has weight due to our economic system. Our reliance on wages and the exploitation of surplus value is the root of this problem, not computers. Our reliance on unequal exchange is the root of this problem, not computers.
Calculators replaced a portion of the workforce too, so have self checkout lines, and computers, and the Watt’s steam engine, and ATM machines, and the phones we’re holding in our hands to post online. Where is the line drawn here? The human jobs of people who may theoretically be replaced by AI are equally as important as any other job replaced by an automating technology, yet we will never see the anti ai cohort being ideologically consistent in their opposition to automating technology because it obviously would sound insane, taken to its logical conclusion.
The luddite opposition to AI sidesteps the root cause of potential job losses in order to moralize about the technology itself, much like people moralized about typewriters. There is a critique to be made about how AI is deployed by capitalists, but the anti ai cohort largely isn’t making this critique, and they are unprepared to defend workers against capitalists as a result.
Education was devalued by our economic system and white supremacy, not by AI. This has been the case for many, many, many decades. The education system in the U.S. has not primarily been about “learning” nor “teaching” nor “inquiry” for decades before any of us were born. Our education system is a business first that operates on a profit motive. It reproduces elites, it reproduces millions of people with specialized skills who become saddled with debt, proletarianized, and have to work in coal mines or McDonald’s to never ever pay them off until they die a debt slave. No one is paying upwards of $20,000 per year or more to engage in the wonderful and flowery quest of learning—this is a fantasy.
Colleges and capitalists have engineered a system wherein a degree matters more than training. Getting an A score is more important than learning. Getting a degree is more important than retaining information. The degree is simply an advertisement used to market ones’ potential to a capitalist for a job. Colleges in the U.S. cost thousands upon thousands of dollars to attend, which has created a system of debt slavery—that is what college is. The kids that are using AI for their college courses are simply optimizing the work necessary to get the degree they need to market themselves for a livable wage. I say this as a degree holder before A.I. became a disruption to the facade. AI is not at fault for this either. Our economic system is. If we want people to stop displacing their thinking on robots, we need to ask what is incentivizing them to do so. We need to engage in materialist analysis, not pretentious moralizing.
what an absurd take. op says "hippie rants and luddite meltdowns" and then continues to say "mad at kids displacing their ability to think on a robot instead of asking why kids go to school for 7 hours, to then get saddled with 4 extra hours of homework, to then having to clock in to a terrible job in many cases". you sound so immensely childish in not being able to acknowledge the dynamic of yes, the education system isn't perfect, but yes education is important. all of us are mutually against capitalist systems in these arguments. But anti-intellectualism is not going to save you. children need to learn and build their understanding of the world. shit, it's important for ALL of us to do that because it is both a pleasure and horror to exist in this world, and you have to be someone able to interact with the world or else what is the point. What are you living for if you just wanna be dumb and never do any work ever. who gives af if you got your degree not doing any work. fuck Columbia, but what pleasure is there for you in having gained or learned absolutely nothing.
not to mention, in colleges, the institution is separate from the people. my professors will give me an A regardless of if I turn shit in on time, they just care that I'm learning and happy with my work and that I feel fulfilled because they're good people, who also happen to exist under a shitty system.
ops post just sounds like an angsty 14 year old and it's absurd. and Amandla being an artist especially, I don't see the point of entertaining this mindless stuff. like black girl to black girl, baby you look dumb
qualeasha wood, "bed rot," 2024, woven jacquard, glass seed beads, and hand embroidery
in one of those phases of crippling existential self-doubt where the nervous horse that controls my productivity is just lying down in the mud and won't get up. the horse is asking questions like do I deserve carrot for big jump if big jump meaningless and is it wrong to be a horse. I'm trying to goad it with compliments and treats but so far the horse won't bite, it's too busy ruminating about the cosmic value of horses
we're telling the horse you can make the jump, you're such a special horse for being able to do the big jump, everybody loves it when they get to watch a big jump, you will get so many carrots, and the horse is not buying it. it's just snorting at us. the horse is saying well there are other horses and flicking mud at us with its tail without getting up. we're telling the horse: but not for us! you're the only horse in the world to us! what must we offer you, nervous horse? o, nervous horse, take pity on your believers!
the horse is questioning the validity of a system in which carrots are rewarded to horses who make the big jumps, seeing as every horse wants a carrot and big jumpers are few, and wants to know why we can't love it for its talents in identifying threats like plastic bags blowing in the wind & being so alert it has a nervous breakdown, instead of expecting it to jump all the time, and perhaps the horse would enjoy a career in calligraphy or nursing instead of this jumping for carrots rigamarole. our negotiator was forced to state that the horse is, nonetheless, a horse. the atmosphere remains tense.
i can't keep living like this!!! [does not change a single aspect of my life]

the creator of this tiktok, zainah.mb, has many family members in palestine who have been martyred. at least 37, in fact. if you would like to help her out financially, she runs a hijab shop called modest behavior, and sells sister minnie merch. here's a link to her paypal as well.
as far as i know, she doesn't live in palestine, but she is palestinian. consider supporting her
She also has an Instagram and has put a official go fund me that she wants people to help if they can.
Dear friends, my name is Mohammed Farid and I am from besieged Gaza. My family lo… Mohammed Ziara needs your support for Help Mohammed & His
Israeli attacks expose Palestinian children to daily horrors.
Children in Gaza can tell an F-16 from an F-35 from a drone. They know a whole litany of things that are beyond their years. Things that they shouldn’t have to know. Over 10,000 children have been killed in Gaza. The children who have survived have seen their families, friends and neighbors killed by the Israeli army. They have seen near-death by starvation and death by suffocation, under the rubble and by explosion. Children in Gaza do not have the luxury of death being a mystery. It is a daily presence. If a child in Gaza is hungry, they know not to throw a tantrum. They have become used to feeling hunger. The same is true of the cold. Every child in Gaza now knows what it is to be unhoused, to sleep in a tent or on the streets in winter.
