A Saga of Life & Death - MASTERPOST -

After Narinder's defeat by the hands of The Lamb one would suspect all to be over and for life within The Lands of the Old Faith to trickle into a complacent and comfortable peacetime. However when a world lacking gods is left unattended for too long the very fate of existence is threatened by the greatest enemy to any living being: itself. This is a COTL centred blog which operations under the assumption that you are +18 due to suggestive or sensitive topics.

Alo! I've been a lurker of the cotl community for a while now and eventually got inspired to delve into creating stuff for my own AU; The Saga of Life and Death. SoLaD is a three part series, a "saga", which is set in a more grounded dark fantasy world for cotl, taking inspiration from a deep interest and love for medieval history along with media such as Dark Souls and Berserk. I try to post something each month, generally in bulk, with the goal of it being a doodle or sketch page typically of nari and have so far enjoyed working with the themes and ideas cotl provides. I also write! I will loudly state I'm a novice, however I'm really enjoying the process of coming up with ideas and plots to write, draw, and explore and I hope it also intrigues you!

The main stories of SoLaD revolve around lovecraftian themes of horror and action all set within a dark medieval fantasy world. It is a grim and dark world with a cast of characters who are both just as bad as the world they reside in but also, at times, a fire in the dark amid an endless night. As it stands currently, both the writing and drawings featured within this blog are all being treated as rough drafts for a further refined remake later down the line. The 'side-stories' vary in focus on scenerios and characters and aim to add more to the world depicted throughout the series. (coming soon)

A small side series where I focus on looking at the potential inspirations for the designs of the weapons in COTL and how practical they are. Be warned it will include a lot of rambling about histroical weapons and ideas. Finding out the lil pokey bits of a spiders mouth is actually called 'chelicerae' and not mandibles. I guess Cecil is a funky ass spider then cause it lowkey kinda works with what I have planned later on.

I only wanted to do a little side-view doodle of Nari again cause I find it fun to do, but it became a little proof of concept show for ichor instead. Needs some tweaks later down the line but it works for now.

Been wanting to get better at drawing Sabine's face and I felt fiddling with expressions was a good way to go about it. She's kinda always been a bit stand-outish compared to other character's I've drawn since her muzzle kinda just... did what it wanted to do? I'm happy with how these turned out tho so hopefully it'll behave like everyone else's.

I sure do hope the reference images don't imply anything!

This seems to be the default pose for me to draw them in- If you havn't seen the last post, I have been spurred onto being a little more intentional with my art style taking Kentaro Miura as inspiration. Needless to say I am further awed by that man and what he was capable of. Point aside I'm kinda happy with how they are turning out so far. It's already made me realise I draw way too small and my abillity to add detail that isn't blurry is squandered due to that. I need to play around with pen sizes more and flex a bit more with different shades and techniques because it really makes things pop compared to the usual!

And a lil alt because I kinda thought it was cool but kinda not? The all black tests I did a while ago were sick but doing it while he's wearing black clothes too was... a struggle. But lemme know what y'all think o/

A little gift for my friend @aychama. Sunnova'gun took the medieval theme before I could get to it >:( Jokes aside I just wanted to draw their lamb, Lambert! Recently I delved back into reading Berserk and it really inspired me to mess around a bit more with how I draw. I wanted to emphasise detail, make use of more contrasting amounts of black and white and wanted to return to my roots a little with some actual armor and weapons which Lambert certainly posesses! I mean have you seen their biceps? 👁️

Big red title get your attention? Good. Originally I was planning to have this formatted all nice in one big post but I found tumblr dosen't like that. Then I tried to split it into multiple smaller posts and tumblr, again, dosen't like that. So I've resorted to screenshotting the document pages. By god does it feel cheap but I can't think of anything else at the moment so.. try to enjoy!

Hoepfully I'll have a better solution come the next installments of the series, you voted on the order and I will stick to it because, despite the posting experience, it's fun for me and hopefully for you guys too.

Next of Kin Chapter 12 + Rewrites Announcement

So the art block lasted another month as did my dawdling but I'm back with two announcements! Firstly: chapters 1-5 have been re-written to better convey the means of the story while respecting readers time and intelligence. Additionally every other chapter has been adjusted where needed to keep these rewrites consistent with the rest of the narratives. Secondly: Chapter 12, what would formerly be 13, has been finished and released! I still plan to stick to my "new years resolution" of being more active with writing and I've even had a burst of inspiration when it comes to my art style too which I've been experimenting on somewhat. I realise there hasn't been many combat encounters in NoK so far, and those that happen are rather short.

On one hand I wanna do more but on the other it feels kinds right- fighting survivors more than warriors all while the creatures and enviroment is more dangerous than it has any right to be so fights not lasting long feels right. 🤔

Yeah idk what it is but Febuary is just the month I don't do anything for some reason, happened last year too. Definetly has nothing to do with getting back into For Honor- But speaking of that lovely game where everyone is nice and friendly, it did remind me NoK takes place after the destruction of a medieval society and the gods were around during that, so I present: armored frogge!

I doubt it'll stay like this when it comes to the prequeal story and designs but it was fun to do. Trying to find a neat balance between her and Narinder given they are both quite tanky but it's been fun to dabble on.

Chapter 13 and WAS will be done within March. And hopefully with them more concepts that aren't mostly drawings of Narinder half naked.
