welcome to my doctor who blog! i've recently decided to watch all of doctor who (2005), at least from doctors 9-12, though i hope to go through all the seasons :p this is where i'll be yapping about doctor who and logging my progress in my doctor who consumption journey.
doctor who was a really big part of my childhood and i've just reawakened my interest in it, so this is really exciting for me!
disclaimer that i know like. some doctor who lore?? i feel i know the basis of a lot of important backstory and plot points, and i've definitely spoiled some larger arcs for myself, but i've still never sat through and watched everything.
from the random episodes i used to watch and the many many clips i've seen online, david tennant and matt smith are my favorite doctors, so i'm looking forward to their seasons :) then i can officially decide who my fav doctors are lol
second disclaimer that i'm watching through doctor who (2005) and not classic who! i might go back and watch some parts of it someday, but i'll probably be sticking to modern who

S1E7: i knew adam was stinky and im glad they ditched him. i feel rose had a stupid boyfriend and overcompensated with a tech bro but unfortunately he was also fucking stupid, at least mickey had a heart!!! themes of this episode were fun i always love an anti-censorship/propaganda, think for yourself, open your brain kind of situation. and cathica was a fun character i loved her saving-the-day moment and her "you should have promoted me" like <33 cathica i fw your vibe even though you go against my journalistic values becuase it is not your fault <33 also very fun villain!! the editor was entertaining.
also rose snapping her fingers at adam at the end was very anna-punching-hans-core and it made me giggle
wait. adam. his name's adam. and he tried to obtain information he shoudn't have access to. and it backfired and he was in pain. and then the doctor banished him from the tardis and sent him back home. and his name's adam. his name's adam hang on a second
adam is slimyyyyy i don't know what his deal is but he's WEIRD him and rose's phone and sneaking all over the place. i dont know why rose picked up this conceited mf from the underground alien torture camp and expected him to be a good person

all of the women in this show are very smart and i love them all
and if i said the women in this show were. mm. revolving around men somewhat and that some women (jabe) exist kind of as a tool to explore some aspect of the doctor rather than standing as their own character well. hm. but overall i fw the show's treatment of women mostly <-- (person whose older brother just had her watch some spn with her and who is now hyperaware of the misogyny of early 2000s shows)
i love how we immediately jumped into the "i'm the last of the timelords" angst that's beautiful and good
very episodic format right now without too much overarching plot (however, the characters are growing and learning from each adventure) and i like this a lot!! and i hope this continues

S1E1: my takeaway from this episode is that rose tyler is beautiful and amazing and i love her ! and i don't like her boyfriend and i think she can do better. and first look at eccleston's doctor and i LOVE HIM this season is going to be fun for me because i haven't seen any clips from it :)) also would like to note that the moment the doctor said "how can you hide something that big in a city this small" i was like "i bet it's the london eye" and it WAS the london eye so everyone should applaud me i think
S1E2: cassandra made me laugh and i mourn the beautiful tree woman. also the doctor was taking his sweet time crossing the giant fan area and it pissed me off because beautiful tree woman was hanging on for him. i have complicated feelings about jabe's whole role in this episode. also i love how this episode starts off the whole "being the last of your species" conversation because im sure the doctor's feeling Super Normal And Cool about all that ! mmm and i fw the overall emotions and themes of this episode it was great
S1E3: charles dickens going through an ebeneezer scrooge storyline was really funny and i had a great time with all the christmas carol references throughout the episode. also gwyneth has my heart forever. also!! more doctor backstory angst!! so good so fun!! i love that he continues to make decisions (sometimes very bad ones) based on his backstory angst. and i CALLED IT i knew the gelth were evil and i knew gwyneth was already dead. this show really strokes my mystery solving ego unfortunately and it's really fun for me
also not rlly an issue but gwyneth and rose's convo did NOT pass that bechdel test lmao. i honestly let out a little chuckle when boys were immediately mentioned and then the scene fucking ended with gwyneth going "i bet your dad is waiting for you too" like PLEASE
S1E4/5: this was a fun time with some fun villains that disturbed the fuck out of me!! this just really had that. kind of campy energy to it that was really entertaining. i was able to guess the alien plot twist but i was NOT able to figure out wtf they wanted the entire time so points off for nico's mystery solving abilities :(( also mickey kind of redeemed himself i guess, respect to him. and. hm. the whole "it'll only have been 10 seconds" section really made me think. man imagine wishing ur gf/daughter well and she disappears and comes back 10 seconds later and. it's only been 10 seconds for you but she's gone through like 10 years worth of adventures and has mentally aged 10 years like. imagine that. she's gone through so much and you've only just said goodbye. if i was mickey (or jackie) i would not be able to handle this entire ordeal so i respect him way more MAN he struggled for a year and it's still weird as hell.
also like. "can you promise my daughter will be safe?" like im gonna fucking CRY
S1E6: AMERICAN ACCENTS IN DOCTOR WHO WEIRDED MY BRAIN OUT SO BAD IM SORRY HEARING THIS MAN GO "doctor?" IN AN AMERICAN ACCENT THREW ME OFF like. i think you're only allowed to say "doctor! doctor?" in a british or scottish accent. also i SWEAR i swear the woman in this episode was aussie or new zealander or british or SOMETHING and trying really hard to put on an american accent, every time she spoke i was squinting at her trying to figure it out. i'll look it up. also first dalek!!!! and more doctor backstory shenangigans!! being the last member of your species alive!! the ending scene tugged on my heartstrings really hard. and i do NOT fuck with adam i hope he only joins them for the next episode because i don't want to deal with his ass for the rest of the season. oh and!! the doctor and rose scene where he had to close the door and then re-open the door....man. mannnn my heart
in other news i have FINALLY started my doctor who (2005) marathon that i've been wanting to start for a year or so now !! and !! i think i will document it on tumblr for funsies so expect all my doctor who posting under the #nicowho tag . i think i will make an effort to type out my thoughts for every episode or at least most of them. some of them will probably be boring thoughts but i am a bit obsessed with making lists and documenting things. also it will probably force me to stay on track and keep watching doctor who
backstory my dad used to watch assorted doctor who when i was young so i'd watch a random episode every now and then :)) and then about a year ago a bunch of doctor who clips started popping up on my youtube fyp and i fell in love with david tennant and then my interest in doctor who piqued again. and i am really excited to get to the david tennant seasons and the matt smith seasons !! because i fw them heavy from the clips and i can't wait to actually watch the real episodes. so yes !! (slight spoilers under this)
fun fact the first doctor who episode i remember seeing is (spoiler alert) from one of the capaldi seasons and it's when bill gets turned into a cyberman and that shit SCARRED little me so. can't wait to get to that episode one day it'll be a milestone !!
