Sketchbook art i did of Simon from Iron Lung! It’s quite messy, but i love how it turned out - it was super duper fun to draw :]
Simon deserves some happiness <3 And a pretty little garden to take care of
(Side note: in my head this is Simon healing after arriving on Erid….It’s not perfect, he still struggles, but things aren’t as dark as they used to be)
Disclaimer: I Have not written a fic in years, and just did this to get back into the swing of writing, and cause the bloodymary brainrot is eating me alive…
Word count: 696
(My teacher encouraged me to write this btw….)

It was a lovely, foggy day in the biodome, Grace's favorite. In a chipper mood, he was enthusiastically teaching his tiny eridian students about viruses - the chosen subject of the day.
A new addition to the mostly-regular teaching day in the biodome, was Simon, sitting on a chair close to the back of the class, on Grace's side.
He was quite the mystery to Grace…Aswell as to the eridian's who found him , for that matter.
Stranded in a bloodied submarine, on a strange moon with a huge crater the size of an ocean - no one has any idea how he got there.
Maybe they would, if Simon would actually tell Grace.
Grace didn't dare to push too far, though, not after sending Simon into a panicked spiral, that got them nowhere, the first time he tried digging into it.
So for the time being, he was trying to make peace with not knowing…Big emphasis on for now, Grace was a curios man, with a thirst for knowledge, and this whole situation was extremely bizzare to him - not able to make heads nor tails of it.
He also just…Wanted to help Simon, wanted him to have someone to talk to.
Simon and Grace had indeed grown closer, Grace even wanting to say they where almost friends at this point.
It took a bit - alot of patience, alot of understanding and support, but they've finally begun to get somewhere.
Movie nights with Rocky had begun including Simon aswell, as had walks on the beach, occasionally.
They talked, not as much as him and Rocky, and it was rare that it went into deeper subjects, such as their childhoods, what life for each was like before Erid..
Why Grace would cry in his sleep, why Simon would wake up in a cold sweat, screaming.
Their talks where still dear to Grace, however.
As much as he loves Rocky, and would never trade him for anything, Grace has to admit, it is kinda nice to be able to talk to another human, despite some vast differences in culture.
Simon always seemed pretty keen to listen to Grace talk about scientific subjects, he was a good listener and a fast learner, asking questions, and nodding along as Grace happily answered them.
Kind of like today's class that Simon was sitting in on - Grace's offer.
However, his usual focus and eagerness to listen wasn't quite there today, Simon seemed to zone out, more than usual.
That's fine! Grace was here to teach his actual students anyway - maybe he'd check up on Simon after….or now?
Not wanting to interrupt the class, who where working on their assignments at that point, Grace got a small piece of paper, and a green pencil, scribbling something down, before subtly sliding it to Simon on the table, giving a small smile.
Simon Raised a brow in confusion, slowly looking down at the paper, before picking it up with his one hand…
Hey pal - You alright? :-)
He huffed, grabbing a red pencil and writing on the paper, as Grace returned his attention back to the eager students for a moment, instructing them on the next part of their assignment.
When Grace was finished talking, he noticed the paper had been slipped back to him - He put on his glasses properly, and looked.
I am fine, Ryland.
You sure? You look kinda zoned-out
Just tired
Simon was about to slide the paper to Grace once again, before stopping, taking it back, and writing something more:
Didnt sleep too good.
Due to how closed-off Simon had been, him telling Grace something even as small as this, felt like progress.
Grace couldn't help but smile.
That's fair, me neither to be completely honest
I see.
Class is over in less than 30 minutes - i can make us some food after, might be just the thing we need to perk up? :-]
Alright.
Simon seemed to think for a moment, before adding:
Thanks, Ryland.
Grace smiled wider, giving Simon a thumbs up, before eagerly returning to class, a little more pep in his step now….Simon smiled slightly when Grace looked away.
He could get used to this.
