I mean, Silver is a human(!!!), but he's also adopted by Lilia (someone Baur respects a lot) and Sebek's only friend
If I'm not mistaken, Baur knows how Knight of Dawn looked like, so what did he think when realized Silver looks suspiciously KoD-shaped?
granted, things got pretty wacky when they were escaping the castle, he might not have actually processed what Dawnathon's face looked like! although I guess it is the kind of thing that sticks with you through the centuries, and if anyone was gonna notice...
(continuing my "old Bauru looks exactly the same but with a BIG mustache" agenda)
alternatively, he's gotten a lot better, but his daughter is still working with him on...certain things involving humans.
do you like deuce! he looks so cute in his new birthday card...
THE SUMMER BOYS ARE BLUE!!! oh my goodness. I love when Deuce gets to dress up like a little Lord Fauntleroy and be all fancy for a little bit. 💙💙💙 ...although there is something wonderful to me specifically that Deuce is the one who gets to be a frilly lacy fancylad, versus Ace going full Victorian street urchin. it is the correct option, don't get me wrong, it's just also hilarious.
Malleus Draconia, temporary member of the Equestrian Club (by special request of his excitable knights)
Short gag drabble below
Yuu: “Woah, what’s with that getup?”
Malleus: “Ah, apologies for not having changed into my regular uniform yet. Silver and Sebek are participating in a competition very soon, and so they asked for an experienced rider to play as their mock opponent.”
Yuu: “You ride a horse? Don’t you just kinda fly or teleport everywhere?”
Malleus: “You are correct to assume that mounts of any kind are indeed quite pointless for a dragon such as myself. However, upholding tradition entails participating in numerous, equally pointless ceremonies. Thus I have learned to ride mounts of all sorts since I was little.”
Yuu: “Right, upholding tradition is important.”
Malleus: “Quite so.”
Yuu: “Say, Hornton… Let’s say you’re a member of the equestrian club. Hypothetically. Does that mean you’ll… be forced to look like this everyday?”
Malleus: “Forced? Well, this is their uniform… So I would be required to dress like this, yes.”
Yuu: “So hypothetically… I’ll get to see your ass in full view like this everyday.”
Malleus: “??? Ass? Ah, you mean a donkey? The equestrian club does not have donkeys.”
Yuu: “Sorry, I meant horse. By the way, did you know that a student can join two clubs?”
Malleus: “No, I did not. But how is that relevant to— where are you going?”
Yuu: “I’m going to ask the headmage to put you in the Equestrian Club.”
Malleus: “Why? I am perfectly content in my own club.”
Yuu: “You need to practice your riding skills.”
Malleus: “Once in a while, perhaps. So casually joining Sebek and Silver like this is—”
Yuu: “Everyday.”
Malleus: “That is too much.”
Yuu: “You’ll get rusty. You’ll embarrass yourself in ceremonies.”
Malleus: “I am not yet demented to forget how to ride a horse after a year or two of non-practice.”
Yuu: “Silver and Sebek will beat you in a race.”
Malleus: “They are knights. It would be embarrassing to never manage to beat me in a horse race.”
Yuu: “Silver and Sebek will out-ass you if you don’t exercise your glutes as hard as they do.”
Malleus: “Yuu, what in the world are you talking about?”
Better the Devil You Know, Than Your Pirate Soulmate
Summary: You've never believed in soulmates, until a certain red-haired pirate kidnaps you from your wedding, insisting you're his.
Chapter: 1/3 2/3 3/3
There's a myth where humans were once whole, connected by pairs. Four arms, four legs, two hearts.
A god, heartbroken and betrayed by his love and enraged by the thought of two connected so intimately, struck them in half- two arms, two legs, one heart.
Except you cannot separate those who are meant to be. The heart still yearns for who it separated from. That's where the concept of soul bonds exist. The concept of being so connected to one, an undeniable tug to be closer. Your souls screaming to be together.
But sometimes, myths are just that- myths. Its a comforting story for those naive enough to believe in fate. There's no such thing as soulmates.
Especially not for you.
You are a lamb to slaughter, a pawn for political gain.
Your eyes focus on the priest, your chin held high. You've been trained to not show the least bit discomfort
The priest's words fall like static in your ears, an uncomfortable fuzzy feeling that you know is about to bind you to another.
Your fiance is smiling, saying all the right words and looking the perfect image of a groom
The words feel thick and dry coming from your tongue as you repeat after the priest.
Your fiance drinks from the goblet, symbolizing our cup never being empty. He passes it to me with a big grin
You lift the goblet to your lips when the doors of the church burst open.
Pirates.
*****
Shanks doesn't remember heading towards the church only that he needed to be there.
The pull was nearly unbearable, sweet torture.
The distant voices of his crew barely reached his ears as he marched forward until he reached his destination.
His breath caught.
Your image through the stained glass- like an angel in a kaleidoscope of colors, dizzying and hypnotic, beckoning him forward.
His feet brought his forward and he pushed open the church doors, nothing could stop him to getting to you
He stares starstruck for a moment- uncharacteristic for him- a man of action, a man of do first consequence later but all he could think about was how good it would feel to have her in his arms
God.
It was worse up close
You were beautiful.
Not just beautiful, no, he’d seen beautiful before.
This was...
His chest tightened.
Like something had been missing and suddenly snapped into place.
Like he’d been walking half-blind his whole life and didn’t know it until now.
He watches your brow furrow in confusion, then anger as he rushes towards the alter
As he throw you over his shoulder, he doesn't know what he was expecting. This seemed to be the wedding of someone of high status, so maybe crying, a temper tantrum.
What happened next absolutely delighted him
You fought, you kicked, you ripped at his hair, you even tried to bite him. He laughed as he dodged.
"Oh, you absolute tragedy of man, let me go this instant!" you demand.
"Sorry angel, not letting you go" he says through the struggle of trying to keep you still
You let out a disgruntled noise before you stop
"Oh, finally calmed down, sweetheart?" he teases
"I've been doing this wrong" you explain
"Oh? Enlighten me" he says walking towards the entrance again.
"I should've been doing this" you yank the collar of his shirt back and become dead weight the opposite way. He barely stumbles, but its enough to wiggle your way out of his grasp.
He barely has a second to process a glint of metal before he grabbed your hand in midair, looking to pierce his throat with one of your decorative hair pins.
You grunt and struggle to yank your hand away before you realize something.
Your fiance is still standing at the alter
"Are you just going to stand there like a dolt or are you going to attempt to salvage what little dignity you have left?" you yell
He opens his mouth. Then closes it, not moving a muscle
Realizing you're distracted, Shanks takes your arm and twirls you, holding you tight, your back to his chest, trapping your arms with his.
Before you can attempt to struggle again, your eyes widen as it clicks. His touch becomes like fire against your skin. You gasp at the touch- firm and reassuring, arms that could protect you and hold you but also fight anyone who stands to take you from him.
Goddammit. Your soulmate was a pirate.
He throws you over his shoulder again and books it towards the doors of the church, taking his crew, who had been fighting of the guards, with him
You yell out every curse you can think of until the world tilts and you're thrown on the deck of the ship.
"Cast off-" Shank's order dies in his throat
Everyone's eyes on both of you, nobody moves.
Somehow, you had snatched a blade on the way to the ship and were now holding it to Shank's neck, huffing in anger
The bastard smiles and holds his hands up in surrender
"Now, now honey. No need for that" he teases
"No need for what?" you spit "Defending myself after being kidnapped from my own wedding?"
You press the blade further, creating a thin red line, the crew looking to Shanks if they need to step forward
He waves them off leisurely, like this is a minor inconvenience
"We both know you won't do it" he smiles
"How do you know? You don't know anything about me" your voice raises
He gently guides the blade away with one finger
"I know you felt it"
You stiffen
"I have no idea what you're talking about" you say avoiding his eyes
He gently grabs your chin, forcing you to look at him
"You're insufferable" you sneer
"You're perfect" he coos
Your eyes widen in surprise as he motions for the crew to continue casting off
"Oh," he says as he walks away "As beautiful as you may look in that dress, that's not very practical for a ship. Why don't you wear something of mine?" he teases.
"Oh well my sincerest apologies for not thinking of practicality for ships, but you're right, I should've expected to have been kidnapped by a delusional pirate on my wedding day" you glare back.
He chuckles as he goes off to his cabin, abandoning you on the main deck.
Well, just because you were here against your will doesn't mean you have to go down easy.
This is the post that inspired this fic because I loved the vibes of it so much:
