The Games We Play: A TS4 Legacy by @Cyazurai/sappychan
Have you ever really given much thought to the fact that there are hundreds of genres and subgenres of just about every medium out there? Movies, books, video games, music, etc. Whatever it is, there are so many different types it’s almost overwhelming.
Well, I have. I’ve thought about this extensively. And about how to incorporate it into TS4 - specifically, a legacy. I’ve also written a CAS challenge based on a similar concept, but it, frankly, doesn’t translate as well into a CAS challenge as it does into a legacy challenge. So, I finally worked up the mental power to put together what I’ve been wanting to do forever.
And that’s how we end up here, with The Games We Play Legacy.
The generations are based on 20 different big, popular genres. They are not all required, you can mix and match, play which ones you want - after all, we’re not all necessarily fans of the same genres of games. Along with the 20 generations, there are also 40+ subgenres that you will roll for (potentially more by the time you read this, I’m not going to update this number every time I add a new subgenre), that will add new elements to each generation to make them completely new every time you play. The subgenres are not optional.
If you play this and want to share it, please tag it with #TGWPLegacy or #TheGamesWePlayLegacy so I can find it!
First things first, this is a legacy. Legacies are generational. So if you’re looking for something you can complete with one sim, this isn’t the challenge you’re looking for.
Before you make a sim, decide how you want to play the legacy. Stay with the generations the way they are, randomize them, pick and choose, play them in order from your favorite genre to your least favorite, however you want to do it, just pick before you create your sim.
Once you’ve picked your first generation, spin the wheel for your subgenre(s). You will do this for every generation, and you might get the same subgenre multiple generations in a row. You can either choose to reroll a repeat subgenre, or keep it. It’s your choice if you want to repeat things you’ve done before.
Each generation is based on a big, popular genre, and has a general outline, with a goal and things to complete. The subgenres will add additional requirements for each generation to complete, that will make each playthrough of the challenge completely different.
Everything in each generation must be completed in order to move on to the next generation; subgenre goals included.
Each generation also has a different branch of that specific genre to choose between; for example, Survival will have things like Winter Survival, or Zombie survival.
Optional: Name every generation after character(s) you like from that genre! For example: Ryley for survival (Subnautica), Abigail for farming sim (Stardew Valley), etc. It adds a bit of extra fun to have a name theme.
Complete all of the generations’ main goals, and subgenre goals, before you move on to the next generation. If your sim dies before they finish their requirements, feel free to either move on to the next generation, resurrect your sim as a playable ghost to finish, or finish the goals as their spouse. However you want to do it.
You can play on whichever age span you prefer, but I recommend normal or some MCCC altered version of normal.
This challenge is designed for those with all packs. Including packs I don’t own, myself. Please feel free to change up the generations however you need to to fit with the packs you don’t own.
If you play with custom aspirations, and have one you think will fit a certain generation better than what I have listed, feel free to substitute it!
Before your founder/current heir has children, roll your subgenre(s) for the next generation to see if there will be specific requirements for who is eligible for heir. This will be something you need to pay attention to.
Some generations will involve occults, aliens, or supernatural elements. If you want realism, feel free not to include these generations or subgenres.
I will probably keep continually updating this challenge as new packs come out, and as I test the challenge and see what works and what doesn’t. Ya know?
