ok but this makes me think--what if it's not a malicious parasite? what if it's more of a symbiotic relationship and the tree feels peace and like it can grow when qifrey feels peace and that feels *good* to the tree. so the tree maybe doesn't have thinks about like kill him maybe it's like oo warmth kindness peace growth and it's enjoyable and natural to the tree. so the tree ships them because the tree, too, enjoys warmth and peace. idk i kind of like exploring ideas around qifrey and the silverwood somehow making peace with each other without qifrey having to die. like... eda the owl lady, for example. although i guess the tree would have to somewhat have thoughts to communicate idk. and also like planting the silverwood seed. like somehow extracting the seed and giving it in a peaceful dying animal in a snack. like a pet. like mayhe a very sweet little fluffy pet who likes ink 👀👀👀👀

It's got to have to take time to learn and internalise that he's allowed to be happy again, if he gets cured. A lifetime of not being able to let happiness in, or risk death. On top of that, the guilt of the repeated memory wipes. Ooooof. 😭

I think he'd be so touch-starved but at the same time, it would be a trigger for his trauma. But Olruggio would be there to help him through it.

If I'm brave enough, I might dare to draw a few comic panels about this

Anyway I made a coloured version of this post! Still thinking about doing some comic panels but I'm attending Heroes Dutch Comic Con next weekend so I'm a bit busy with preparations for that.
